  • These are the best headphones I have ever used for running! Over 100 miles already... love them!
First, I want to disagree with people who complain about the sound quality of these headphones. If you buy these headphones and are expecting the quality of a pair of noise cancelling over the ear headphones, you need to check your expectations. These are very inexpensive, bone conducting headphones, and for the cost and the type of headphones, they sound amazing! I have a pair of Sony WH-1000XM3s and they are by far the best sounding headphones I have owned, but they cost me almost $300 and I could never wear them running. The only quality the AfterShokz Airs are missing is the dept of the bass frequencies, but still for around $100 they still sound amazing. I am giving them 5 stars for sound, because subjectively they over performed for the cost and type of headphones, and were better than I was expecting. I have not used these headphones for phone calls yet, and I can imagine they aren't the best for that because they do allow all the surrounding sounds to enter your ears, but I am sure they will work well with all things considered. Second, I have been searching for a good pair of wireless headphones for running that were comfortable, allowed me to still hear my surroundings, and were capable of handling hours of exposure to sweat. These headphones filled all my needs. These headphones keep the tunes running for hours, you barely feel them, and you can still enjoy your music while hearing the world around you. I recently ran a half-marathon with these headphones when it was 27 degrees F outside. I had to wear a winter hat to keep my head from getting cold and was able to wear the hat over my ears with total comfort. Surprisingly the winter hat actually made the sound better, as it help the headphones tighter to my head, and muffled some of the outside noise. No other earphones would have allowed that. Pod types would have been uncomfortable jammed into my ears, and over the ear types would have been muffled or I would have left my ears exposed to the cold. I have run for hours and hours on a treadmill, where my sweat builds up much faster, and these headphones were soaked at times, but they worked great, stayed in place, were comfortable, and they still look and function perfectly. All in all these headphones are well worth the money, and if you get a bad pair, give the company a chance to send you replacements. (It hasn't happened to me, but I have read a bunch of reviews about it.) For runners... get these now. Your running will never be the same! ... show more

  • AfterShokz Trekz Air – A Game-Changer
I’m not the biggest advocate in regard to wearing headphones while cycling or running mainly because the lack of ability to hear ambient sound for obvious safety however, AfterShokz Trekz are the exception and a game-changer and here’s why. You can hear ambient sound while wearing AfterShokz Trekz headphones. For example, I ride a lot of blue and black mountain bike trails and I can hear birds and cicada, and even airplanes with no problem. I can hear people riding behind me. Literally, I could have a conversation with someone and hear every word the person is saying with no problem. This is why I say AfterShokz Trekz headphones are a game-changer, you can enjoy some tunes and still hear ambient sound. SOUND QUALITY I admit I was on the fence between the two models Trekz Air vs Trekz Titanium because the hardware specifications are identical on their website. After a phone call to AfterShokz customer service (which the person was super nice) I learned why the Trekz Air sound quality is so much better than Trekz Titanium. First, the ear pieces were re-engineered. This provides a better anatomical fit, but this also allowed for improved positioning of the transducers; the tiny electronic devices that converts and delivers sound waves that you hear. Additionally, the Trekz Air uses Bluetooth 4.2. This is a small update from 4.1, but the one characteristic of Bluetooth 4.2 is that it transmits data 250% faster with more reliable over-the-air data transmission and 10x more packet capacity. In other words, more data is processed faster. These combined changes make one massive difference in quality of sound over the Trekz Titanium. Keep in mind that Trekz headphones are an open ear design. You will not get the same sound quality compared to an in-ear-bud or full-over-the-ear headphone. It’s kind of like listening to music and removing the sub-woofer (the speaker that delivers the really deep thumping bass); basically, you are listening to the mid-range and tweeter speaker frequencies (sort of). Don’t get me wrong, Trekz Air produces a super crisp and clear sound. The Trekz Air produces a much filler and deeper sound compared to the Trekz Titanium, which has a hollower and even less deep sound. FIT I like fact that band that connects around the neck on the Trekz Air is shorter and does not rest as low on the neck, it makes for a more comfortable fit when running and under a bicycle helmet. CONCLUSION I was fortunate enough to try both Trekz Air and Trekz Titanium. Simply put the difference between the two models is night and day. The obvious is the Air is lighter, but also has a better anatomical fit. Both the light weight and fit of the Trekz Air is better for long days riding or running. It may not seem like a big deal at fist sitting in your home or office, but when your miles out, it will make a difference in comfort. Additionally, the Trekz Air produces a much better sound quality; more importantly, having ability to hear ambient sound while enjoying some motivational music is why AfterShokz Trekz headphones are so incredible. AfterShokz got it right with the Trekz Air. Awesome engineering design and smart use of technology. I definitely recommend the Trekz Air, you will not be disappointed. ... show more

  • Know what you're getting into and you'll be very satisfied
There's a saying about taking things with a grain of salt. If you're looking for bone conduction headphones and reading reviews, take a step back when you read complaints about things like lack of bass, or any in-depth comment about audio quality. Also, be wary of any "honeymoon" reviews where the reviewer throws up their thoughts after just a couple of days. We live in an amazing era of being able to buy very specialized earphones, and Trekz excel at what they're designed to do. I've had these for about 5 months and use them almost every day at work. In an office setting, these things are freaking awesome. At moderate volumes, there's very little sound leaking. Your neighbor might be able to tell you're listening to something, but it's not much different from having regular headphones in that they wouldn't know exactly what you're playing. I often like to have a 2nd screen playing TV shows, movies or YouTube videos in the background while I work. But I still want to be able to hear what's going on around me. Trekz absolutely shines in a scenario like this. I was hesitant to spend the money on these at first (let's face it, these are quite expensive for what they are). After all these months, however, I can say I have zero regret over their cost. The sound quality is very clear and very usable. You won't get overwhelming bass because that's just not possible with the laws of physics. At least, not without incredibly irritating vibration against your head. Everything I've listened to (including some music) has been crystal clear. And I don't have to be isolated from everything else going on around me. If you crank the volume up, you will also crank up the vibration. That's just the nature of how they work. At loud volumes, you'd also have a tougher time shifting focus between sound emanating from the Trekz or from your surroundings. One great use I've found for them is with videoconferencing. If you do a lot of VC meetings like me, these are fantastic. Since I can hear myself clearly, I don't end up shouting at my screen like with anything noise isolating (or active cancellation). Instead, I speak with a normal, conversational volume. In most cases, I can make it through a work day using them without having to recharge. Spoken audio doesn't tax the battery all that much and even with a heavy meeting day, I don't have to recharge mid-day. But music, TV and movies will draw more battery. So the one (and really, only) complaint I have is that I would have happily traded a couple extra grams of weight to get an increase in battery life. Oh, and if you carry these around in a backpack like I do, get an aftermarket case for them. The one that comes with them is fine for light protection, but if they're in a compartment with tons of other stuff, you'll want something more substantial. I'd recommend the one made by Hermitshell, sold here on Amazon. ... show more

  • neat headset
i like these. i read about this in a cycling equipment review and couldn't wait to try them. i wanted them for bike riding so I could hear cars and other traffic around me if needed. i wasn't sure based on reviews and their concept they would really work though. i try to listen to podcasts when riding, so voice/vocal clarity is important. this is a neat headset and concept. in general, i'm able to hear my podcasts at mostly volume when riding just fine. I found these to be very comfortable and you hardly know you have them on. It does fit fine under a cycling helmet. i am able to hear the sounds around me well as hoped. here are the negatives though. you only get about 3 hours to a charge. their waterproof concept was to put a flap over the usb port but it's sometimes a pain to open up and plug-in to charge. In heavy wind or traffic, I'm still not able to hear my podcasts. the buttons for volume control are small and not entirely convenient, especially under bike helmet straps. I find i really have to feel around to find the right buttons to adjust the volume at times. The loop around the back of the neck can be a small annoyance at times, but it's generally fine. On the plus, the higher/lower pitched 'boops' give me a good indication if i'm pressing the correct button. The first week I owned it, I accidentally brought it into the shower along with my helmet and other washables after a ride and even after an initial rinse when I feared I destroyed it, I found it survived just fine. I'm not giving this 5 stars because it's got some shortcomings, but it's a great quality product and I'm very happy with it overall so far. ... show more

  • These have become my "go to" headphones
When I first saw these in a bike shop, I thought they were intriguing but nothing special. Then a friend bought a pair and I tried them on and liked them more. I read some reviews that had been posted about people using these under their ski helmet so I thought I would give them a try. That did not work for me because I could feel them under my ski helmet so I decided not to use them for skiing. But I use them EXTENSIVELY while cycling and most casual occasions where I want to listen to music. As long as you set your expectations appropriately, these are AWESOME. What I mean be setting your expectation appropriately is don't expect audiophile performance. These work best as headphones that let you hear your music while also being able to hear what is going on around you. Unlike a small portable speaker that is competing with all the environment noise around you, the music from these headphones is literally in your head. The sound quality is very good and you don't need to crank up the sound to hear your music. You could literally have a conversation with someone while listening to your music. What I have found while using them on my bike is that initially, they aren't loud enough to hear the music. But after a few minutes, my hearing adjusts to these headphones and I have to turn the music volume down. And I have the added benefit of being able to hear everything going on around me on my bike. If you find a pair on display here is a little experiment to try. Plug your ears with your fingers and you will be amazed how loud these actually are. These ship with earplugs for noise isolation. I used them on a flight but the provided earplugs are pretty cheap. I plan to get some better earplugs for noise isolation on a flight. I have a pair of AirPods and they have a better quality sound. But since I want to hear what is going on around me, I only use the AirPods for phone calls. Plus, the battery on these last a lot longer than my AirPods while riding a bike. I would definitely buy these again, but I would buy the Aeropex model because it is newer and has a longer battery life. I also believe they are slightly smaller which might make them better for skiing. All that said, these are not perfect. They look kinda dorky but so did the AirPods before they became a fashion item. The loop around the back of the head limits where you can use them. For example, you really can't lay down with them on. I am sure this implementation is probably the best compromise they were able to achieve at this point in time. That said, they work for 80-90% of how I want to use them. ... show more

  • Amazing and safe for exercise, awesome sound quality, and prompt customer service
If you're looking for headphones for exercise - these are the best I've ever used for that purpose. I've had issues with most headphones falling out of my ears, not fitting in properly or being distracting (especially the over ear headphones), or playing loudly enough to cause hearing damage or block out traffic. These have none of those problems - they're lightweight, never fall out and comfortable. I can bike and listen to music, and even do phone calls without an issue while being able to hear traffic around me. I've enjoyed running with them as well. Since they're open ear, the volume never gets loud enough to make me worried about hearing damage (just possibly more audible to others close by). I don't have an issue with the vibrations from the bone conduction - it's kind of cool to feel the bass on some songs as well. The sound quality is excellent (this is from an audiophile that usually uses audiotechnica/sennheiser) - some high frequencies may sound a little strange but bass to high mid are great. Last week I was looking for my headphones, and my cleaning service found them, the audio was only working in one side. I'm sure that rough handling caused the issue rather than normal usage. Since I was 5 months into the 2 year warranty, I submitted a claim on the Aftershokz website. In just four days I had a new pair of headphones mailed to my door. I can't recommend these headphones and company highly enough. ... show more

  • Great Tech, Well Executed, Good Find
2.5 months in. These are comfortable and convenient. They fit well and stay on when I run. No more constant adjustment of buds popping out when I sweat. Quick and reliable connection with iPhone. Seemingly solid construction. Most importantly I can maintain some awareness of things going on around me. I run at night and find in particular I can hear over the sound of music best. I can hear all the high pitch noises (Dog tags jingling, sprinklers, etc.) I cannot normally hear with in ear headphones or buds. I can hear car engines running even in parked cars. I can hear words while music is playing, but unless the music is low or off it’s difficult to have a conversation. Others don’t know that I cannot hear them so they usually assume that I can’t. Phone calls are great. I can easily hear and be heard on the call. And I can have any easy conversation with someone in the room and on the phone at the same time. High marks for sound cancellation because they DO NOT cancel outside sounds, which is exactly what I wanted. I find that volume is adequate, but I’m frequently listening to music near max volume. Some songs (the rare occasion with high vocals) are noticeably distorted at high volume. Controls are pretty nice though volume buttons are a little too small. 3 buttons do all functions including play pause and skip of apps (Pandora, Amazon Music, ITunes), and answering and hanging up calls. I don’t need to get my phone out unless I need to browse for music. If connected to my iPhone I can see the Aftershokz battery level on top of the screen. While I bought these for working out I find that I want them with me in the office if I need to focus and working around the house or garage on the weekend. I no longer have to bring a Bluetooth speaker around with me. These would make an amazing gift for anyone who likes to listen to music outside and doesn’t necessarily want to share the love with everyone around them. ... show more

  • Love 'em
I owned the level down from these first, but had issues with them. This pair, according to the specs, is simply lighter. However there are other improvements that make them worth the upgrade. Bluthtooth connection is much better. Sound is better, comfort is better, the sound notifications have been improved. I still think the volume beeps and the voice informing you they are connected is still too loud though. In noisy environments one may need to use earplugs, but they will depend on several factors. There is some sound bleeding, but it is minor when you have them on and the people around me don't seem to know whether I am listening to something or not. This was a major concern of mine, because I don't want to be the person with the loud headphones annoying everyone. Battery life could be improved, but it hasn't proved to be a big issue for me. If you're on the fence, just order a pair and try them. It's the only way you'll know whether they are for you. I'm glad I did, because now I'll never go back to standard headphones again. Update 09/2018 I used these in conjunction with a pair of earplugs on a recent flight and they worked wonderfully. I basically had noise cancelling headphones on! My teenage daughter sat next to me and I asked her several times if she could hear anything, but she always said no. When you use these with earplugs the sound can be adjusted by holding down both the volume up and down buttons. The change is subtle, but it helps. I now love these headphones even more. 6 stars! ... show more
