We have a gate at the end of our property that we keep locked year round with a padlock. The weather takes a toll on these locks over time so I was eager to try this out as a replacement and to upgrade our short chain to a longer one that wrapped around the post for more security. This product arrived and I immediately noticed that the chain seems both short and light. I expected a 4 foot chain, as depicted in one of the listing photos. While the product specifications do state the chain is 32 inches long, I had only seen the measurement listed on the listing photos when I ordered. In fact, the chain only measures 31 inches long stretched as tight as it will go. The listing also states that this chain and lock are heavy duty and bolt cutter resistant. This is simply not true. This is not a heavy duty chain but is only medium duty, at best. One of the listing pictures does indicate it is 6 mm, which is in line with the product I received and qualifies as medium duty, meaning it is easily cutable with bolt cutters and other tools. This means that the listing description and photos are misleading and it also means that this product is not sufficient to provide heavy duty security, if that is needed. Now, to be honest, I do not need heavy duty security since I use the chain and lock as a simple deterrent to keep people from walking onto my property. This chain and lock will work ok for my needs, though I am disappointed about the length of the chain. The lock works well and will likely hold up as well as any other cost effective "weather proof" lock. I also think this item is worth $14, which is why I am giving it 3 stars. I am more annoyed by the deception of the listing photos and descriptions than anything else.
