This happens to be the third bicycle protection lock I have been asked to evaluate recently. So I thought - a good time to compare all three: Let’s start with the basic physics: no portable lock “stops” an angle grinder. The only thing you can do is maximize time, noise, and effort so the thief moves on. For bolt cutters, however, material and diameter matter a great deal. These 3 locks fall into three very different security classes: 1.Nimite Hardened Steel Chain Lock (this lock and chain) 2.MAVRICMANN Bike Chain Lock 3.Venzio Cable Zip-Tie Lock Ranking (best - worst): Nimite chain lock - strongest MAVRICMANN chain lock - moderate Venzio cable lock - essentially symbolic The Venzio isn’t even in the same category. It’s deterrence against casual interference, not theft. Resistance by attack type - Bolt cutters: Nimite Best resistance. Likely requires 36 - 42" cutters or hydraulic cutters. Many hand cutters will bounce or deform. MAVRICMANN Moderate. 24 - 30" cutters probably succeed with effort. Venzio Cut instantly with small hand cutters or even pliers. Cable locks like this die because cutters act like shears. Chain links resist because you must crush hardened steel, not shear wire. Attack type - Angle grinder with metal disk: Nimite All can be cut, but hardest and slowest. Expect 20–40 seconds per cut. MAVRICMANN Faster: 10–20 seconds. Venzio <5 seconds, usually in one pass. This lock is really nice. It’s waterproof, substantial, and feels like it will hold up well in the weather. It has a good weight to it and feels very durable. It comes with three keys, which I really like because keys always seem to go missing, and there’s also a place to add a label to them. One feature I really appreciate is the cap on the bottom of the lock. Even many locks that claim to be waterproof don’t fully cover the keyhole, but this one does, and it’s inset into the lock, which feels more secure. The metal shackle at the top is also covered with rubber so the metal isn’t exposed and less likely to rust. The entire lock is encased in a plastic housing, which gives it a solid, weather-resistant feel. The lock itself is excellent. The only reason I’m giving it one less star is because of the chain. The chain is heavy and a good length, but it’s painted black, and you can already see speckling where the paint is starting to come off. My concern is that as it’s used outdoors and exposed to the elements, that paint will continue to rub off and could transfer onto whatever it’s wrapped around, making things a bit messy. I probably would have preferred the chain to be unpainted metal, though I can understand why they wanted it to coordinate in color with the lock. Overall, I think this is a good value for the set, and I haven’t seen many locks like this. I really like the lock itself, and even with the chain issue, I still think it’s a solid and useful product.

The media could not be loaded. This is really heavy duty. For the price, I wasn't expecting something nearly as nice. This is an amazing deal. The chain is thick, sturdy, well welded, and evenly coated so it should hold up to a lot of wear and tear even outside in unpredictable conditions. It's a good size amount of chain to go around a double or single gate, or through The handles on double doors of a shed or shipping container. The lock itself is also incredibly industrial feeling. It doesn't rattle at all. The mechanism is incredibly solid. The latch part slides in and out easily when locked or unlocked, and it's a very firm click and lock into place without budging. There is enough gap in that latch part for both ends of the chain to pass through as well as some additional space for shifting and angling in order to get it on or off. The locking area itself where the keys go is protected by a rubber stopper, presumably to keep rain and dust particles or sand out, so that way the internal mechanisms stay functioning as long as possible even with regular use. That rubber stopper is in there very solidly, so you definitely have to tug on it to get it out, and give it a good push to get it back into place, which is a good thing. You definitely don't want that to fall out if this is going to be used outside, or it'll be prematurely rusting the internal mechanisms and you'll have to use something like WD-40 in there in order to get it movable again. This is also a great visual deterrent because it looks incredibly hard to break or cut if someone was trying to trespass into your gate, or rob your shed or get into your shipping container or things like that. And because it's not one of the more commonly available brands, they will be less familiar with how they could break into this or pick it, which also buys you some additional time and hopefully that would just cause them to leave quickly once they realize it wasn't easy to get into. This also would be great to replace a standard bike chain, which are often thin cables that are easier to cut. This is long enough to wrap around my frame and a slim bike rack. And you could get a longer chain or a second piece of chain potentially if you also want to attach your tire and slide four ends of both chains through this locking mechanism so that you're even more protected.
