It is sturdy and strong now that I have everything installed but I had to modify my pre-fabricated fence panel because the door frame would not fit between my fence rails. I had to take the whole top rail loose, move it up then reattach each picket at the top (very tedious). Once I did all that, it went smoothly for the rest of the install. It would have been much easier if you just plan to make your own panel for the gate. ... show more

This is a Cadillac gate. Very sturdy. The pix in the instructions could’ve been more detailed, especially for the gate latch. Having said that I’m not overly handy and I figured it out. The sag from my old gate is gone. I would buy it again and recommend it to anyone.

I bought this Frame to build a full 6 ft swinging gate 6 ft tall and wide and while it is certainly sturdy enough and the assembly is simple enough the placement of the horizontal beams for anything other than a 4 ft gate is very poor leaving far too much bored on top of and below the horizontal beams of the frame. I had to modify the frame by cutting it to do what I wanted it to do otherwise it would not have worked well for anything more than a 4 ft tall gate in my opinion. I have used this Frame before and maybe I didn't order the right one but there should be vertical extensions as well as horizontal extensions. The way they have it built you can make the gate 6 ft wide or even 8 ft wide but not more than 4 ft tall and that's a little odd when it would be very simple to make vertical extensions as well. The hinges are not machined very tight which means they will not wear very evenly they are quite loose and floppy and even with a careful install cannot be installed perfectly without adding an additional bushing or Machining the PIN that the hanger bracket sits on. Also the hardware included is bare minimum and low-grade Steel. Mine were Rusty in the bag and Phillips Drive is ridiculous for treated lumber. They should be longer and decking grade Torx Drive screws. You might get them in without stripping them but you will never get them out a little disappointed in the hardware overall. I don't think I would buy this set again I would rather hand build it as much work as I had to do to install it to make it durable. I am a mechanical engineer and Tradesman and this kit is just bare minimum ... show more

Update 1/23/19. (A few days shy of 2 years) I will update my review from 3 to 4 stars. I used the kit for longer than intended and made a 12’ gate using 1 1/2” square thing to extend it. I also ordered a third hinge from the manufacture to put it in the middle for more support. The only other upgrade that I did was changing out the cable and I hooks from the supplied 1/16 inch cable to 1/8 inch cable. All in all the gate has worked great. I did end up adding wheels to the end of it to help with rolling across my driveway. As with all driveways mine is pitched. As a result when it was at full swing because of the pitch it would touch the ground. This was through no fault of the gate and it hasn’t sagged at all. The wheels were merely to get it the rest of the way. The gate even though it’s extend it swings freely and easily. Into years I’ve literally only had to turn the I hook one turn to get it to resent her in the latch. All of the supplied hardware that I used has worked flawlessly. I haven’t noticed any signs of rust or corrosion. I would highly recommend this gate kit to anyone making a gate. Also using these kids in my yard, but with the two rail set ups instead of three, I’ve had no issues. I have an 8 foot gate, a 5 foot gate, and a 4 foot gate in my yard as well and into years I have had to make zero adjustments to them. So I just received this after deciding to upgrade from the AG60 which is only 45" tall but worked well on another 8' fence gate that I have in my yard. I wanted this one because it's "contractor" grade, is 65" tall, and has 3 rails instead of 2. Cons: First off, they reduced the overall thickness of the support rails from 1 3/4" to 1 1/2". They also changed the 1/2" screw in hinge bolts to what I consider inferior hinges that screw onto the posts with 6 wood screws. In my opinion, this will most likely be the fail point in the future as with most hinges that screw in this way. The 1/2" screw ins are much better and don't pull out over time. On my last gate, I bought longer 1"X1" square tubing for strength since I was extending the frame almost all the way to their max. On this new model, they have made one side of the square tubing concave so that you can't insert longer standard tubing. If you want to lengthen it, you have to go to 1 1/2" OD, 1 1/4" ID and lengthen by sliding the larger tubing on the outside of the framing. The frame itself does NOT extend a full 96" with the hinges. You can leave a gap to cover an 8' foot fence opening but this is not a "true" 96" gate. Pros: They listened and upgraded the hardware. I will still use my own coated 3 1/2" star drive deck screws. They upgraded the latch hardware over the flimsy hardware that they supplied prior. I'm still switching to a different latch. In the past, the gate kit was shipped in just it's own flimsy box. This one showed up packaged in a nice cardboard box. All in all, I will still upgrade some components of the gate to make it stronger. I'll update after I install it this coming weekend. ... show more

As a general contractor I have build many gates with many different materials. I have used metal gate kits similar to this one from the big box stores, but the hinges in this kit are definitely a more sturdy design. I also like that it comes with a cable to help reducer sagging. Usually I have to buy them separately. This is a great product and I will definitely be purchasing them here from now on. ... show more
