ACWELL is one of those OG K-Beauty brands (like Benton and Isntree) that made it onto everyone's "Best Of" lists a couple of years ago. With the continued explosion in new brands, I haven't heard much about them recently but I've always been curious to try their stuff. This lightweight serum contains licorice, often used in eye creams for its ability to lighten/brighten the skin. It has a thin jelly-like consistency that melts into the skin, leaving behind a slightly sticky, shiny coating. I find it works best under a thicker moisturizer rather than as a single (or final) layer. It feels both comforting and hydrating. And while there's no added fragrance or essential oils, it does have a mild herbal aroma that smells both natural and pleasant. I've been using prescription strength tretinoin for over a month now and need to be careful what products I use on my sensitized skin and this has worked into my routine seamlessly. After using it as part of my nighttime routine for two weeks, I can't say I've noticed any brightening effect but it works great at keeping my irritated skin hydrated [layered under a more occlusive night cream] during these cold, dry winter months.

Wow! This serum is crazy good! Instant softness after applying. My skin looked better immediately! Korean skincare at its finest. This whole brand is excellent for anti-aging and getting that glass skin look. It really shrinks your pores and gives you a gorgeous glow!

I love Acwell. The matching toner to this serum made a bunch of “best of” lists the year it came out. The serum is really good too. I don’t have the toner right now so I can’t use them together but the serum seems to help fight hyperpigmentation just as well as the toner. I am of mixed descent but I got hyperpigmentation issues from my Mexican blood. Acwell licorice products definitely help prevent hyperpigmentation after a pimple (at least got me). It leaves a moisturized but not dewy finish, as many of my k-beauty serums have left me looking dewy. I’m a big fan of these products and would highly recommend. I hope this info was useful.

As others have said, this is a Korean product that, while Amazon has the ingredients listed in English, they cannot be found on the box or bottle in English. The ingredients seem to be good and suitable for sensitive skin. I had some problems with it in that it’s a little high priced for me, it feels very sticky for a long time after it’s applied, even when covered with another moisturizer, and it doesn’t seem to make fine lines or wrinkles look any better. I would not purchase this serum again. It feels like I stuck honey or corn syrup on my face.

This is a review for ACWELL Phyto Active Balancing Ampoule Skin Barrier Serum 1.18 fl.oz. at time of review this bottle is $30 which is on the average price range for serums of this type. I've been using this serum for the last 2 weeks but in a different manner than usual. I've taken this bottle to work with me (10-12 hour shifts) which by the end of the day the skin around my eyes start to look and feel tired. For a mid-day refresher I've applied this serum and it has been working nicely. It does seem to create a "barrier" as evidenced by a slight sticky/tacky feel around the area it is applied- which may not be pleasant for some who aren't fans of this- often this just tells me it's staying around for a while. The packaging at least for now is not written in English- neither is the bottle so there are no instructions/ingredients/recommendations to be had there.
