There is a great variety of paint colors in this set, including several shades of solid primary colors, metallic colors, pearlescent colors, and a clear varnish. I like that there is an inner plastic seal after the top is unscrewed, that is easily removed and can be replaced, so colors don't dry out as quickly as some of the craft store acrylics often do once opened. The paints are vibrant colors and creamy. A dozen brushes with different tips/types are included with several palette knives that feel like “free” bonuses on top of the already competitive and great price of the paints. (Some of the craft store acrylic bottles this size are frequently more than the 99-cents each as they used to be.) Although paper is recommended, I am using for plastic and wooden models and can see that these would work well on stretched watercolor paper and even canvas paper or stretched canvas. As with acrylic airbrush paints, several layers are needed, and several thin layers are also recommended for the plastic or wooden models. These paints are not designed to “self-level,” therefore several thin layers work well. I sometimes mix the last layer of an acrylic color with the floor wax that modelers are using, so the final coat will self-level. I also liked that the color chart could be copied to print out and placed with the box of paints. I plan to arrange the paints in the box to match the order of the color chart for easy reference. The chart can be taped or glued inside the top cover. The paint bottles and extras came in a sturdy and well-fitting box for the weight of the paints and fit for paints, brushes, and palette knives. A dozen artist brushes are included in various shapes and sizes. I would say they are a “fair” quality for decorative paining with these paints, but I haven't used much to determine how the bristles hold up for not falling out or splaying. They seem well-trimmed and, again, I can't really advise if they shed or splay. Having been using artist's brushes, of all qualities, the past 56 years, regardless of the quality, if one avoids paint getting into the metal ferrule that holds the bristles, and the brushes are well taken care of, most brushes--including low quality--will last well. Just remember these are not expensive sable hair. Many of my brushes of various qualities (from camel hair and synthetic to sable hair, I have been using for 56 years! (Use oil paint brushes for oil, enamel paint brushes for enamel, and watercolor/acrylic paint brushes for watercolor/acrylic paints. Don't use the same brush for all of the above different types of paint, and brushes will last longer--regardless of their quality! Personally, I am not sure I will ever use all the colors included, but very excited to have the variety of paint types and colors available, especially if I want to mix my own colors. These can be used from transparent watercolors to translucent to opaque, including impasto style for a thicker application as often a style for artist oil paints. Acrylic paints can be used for a variety of painting styles. As well, an acrylic retardant can be added to slow drying time and/or thicken and other mediums can be used to speed drying time. That is: these can be used like tubed artist acrylics for nominal cost, compared to artist tubed acrylics from student quality to professional quality. Price for the quality of these paints alone is competitive with many colors and less cost than the well-known craft acrylics in bottles of this size. Honestly, I was speechless upon receiving this. I ordered it for our two granddaughters (ages 9 & 15), both of whom like art, and we wanted them to have something to do besides glazing over into their phones when they came to visit. But however complete the set may look in the product description photos, it pales in comparison to seeing it unwrapped and spread out over the kitchen table. It’s 20 lb. of 99 colors in 2 oz. containers of nontoxic acrylic paints. It also includes pretty much all the standard brush types, along with a guide listing the name of each and their special effects. But is it any good? I had no idea, so I asked a family member of mine who happens to be an accomplished artist, teacher and author. How do these paints compare with the professional variety she typically uses in her work? She said she was pleasantly surprised with their consistency/mixing/coverage. Before I knew it she whipped out HER cell phone and ordered a set of her own (said she could use for some of the studies she sells), adding she would recommend to all her students. I am a modeler as I build model car kits. What's important about brush painting on model kits, is you've got to apply the right paint. This paint actually is fine with styrene plastics. I will typically spray the body and chassis, but when it comes to the engine and driveshaft, I usually lean towards brush painting it on. This set is massive and weighs over 12 pounds. Almost every color imaginable. Prepare for a huge assortment, plus accessories. Dry time should be reasonable, touch by hand in 30 minutes, and fully cured in 24 hours. Priced crazy with a huge value. When this set was launched, it was $99. Now it's only $46. Final thoughts... ✔️ Fantastic set of craft paint, approved for plastics! ✔️ Amazing value. This is a pretty awesome acrylic set, especially considering the price. If you can't find the color you need in this 99 color set, you probably could custom mix it with this set. The paints are of good quality, maybe not expensive "artist" quality, but darn close. Very good amount of pigment making up the colors. While they are "liquid" type acrylics, they are not runny, and brush on very nicely. Reasonable working time. The set also includes 12 different brushes. Fairly decent quality, better than "beginners" type. The only place this set fell down a bit, was in the Palette knives and the mixing tray. The tray is too shallow, and hasten the drying time of the paint. Also the plastic palette knives are fairly flimsy, but most people don't use palette knives when using liquid acrylics. I went to a ****mar box store and their cheapest paint was 97 cents, and quality not nearly as good as this set. That's over twice what this much better quality set cost for 99 different colors. (and they didn't have 99 colors). Plus then you'd you'd pay extra to get the brushes and knives. So this is a really great value, especially for the size of the set. ... show more
