Badger’s New Patriot Airbrush, Model 105-1, is a dual action, internal mix, gravity feed airbrush with a permanently mounted 1/3 ounce color cup . Designed as the gravity feed version of Badger’s popular siphon feed “Anthem” airbrush, the Patriot delivers superior performance with its innovative precision design. The Patriot’s two angle needle tip precisely mates with the Patriot’s cone shaped nozzle enabling a single needle/nozzle (.50 millimeter) configuration to spray virtually any desired material, eliminating the need for various needle/nozzle sizes. This was my first airbrush which I bought for scale modeling and model railroading. I chose this brush over the Badger's newer offering, the Renegade Velocity because it was $40 cheaper and had a slightly larger tip making it more of an all around brush. The first thing I noticed when opening the case -- which it comes with a nice padded case that snaps shut -- is that the build quality is very well done. The brush feels solid and sturdy in your hand. The back half of the handle area screws off and on with ease. The trigger pulls back smooth. One interesting feature of this brush is that it has a cut away on the back half that lets you remove the needle without taking the handle off. This works but I've found it's easier to put the needle back into the brush without the handle on, so most of the time I just take it off anyways. Another feature of this brush is that it has a trigger tension adjustment. It comes from the factory set to max (which the instructions point out should be fine for most people) but there is also a small tensioning nut that lets you loosen it up a bit. From reading the manual that it came with it seems to include a lifetime warranty. For the first year Badger will replace/repair anything for you at their cost and after the first year they will replace/repair manufacturer defects provided that you pay for shipping. Overall I've been very happy with this brush choice. I should point out though that compared to the Renegade Velocity the one thing this brush does not have is a trigger stop which lets you limit how far back the trigger can be pulled. While that is a nice-to-have I haven't yet come upon a situation where that was really necessary (then again maybe I haven't used it enough to hit that situation). ------------------------- Update October 2012 A year and a half later and this air brush is still going great. Aside from looking into the cup or into the nozzle, it almost looks new. This is likely due to the polished finish which makes it easier to clean. I'm still on the original needle and nozzle. After every painting session, I thoroughly clean the color cup, then remove the needle and clean that separately. This only takes a few minutes but I suspect it has gone a long way towards keeping the brush in tip-top shape. I've found the key to perfect operation is good choice of paints. I've shot both cheapo craft paint through this and paint which had been in the sun and was a bit too clumpy. Both did horrible and clogged the brush, resulting in me having to spend 15 minutes cleaning it out. On the flip side, good paint, properly thinned, goes on perfect, every single time. I've learned my lesson. Good pain just makes using the brush so much nicer of an experience.

This airbrush is absolutely amazing. A lot of people will say that this is just a beginners airbrush and while, yes, it is perfect for a beginner it can and will take you so much farther too. Highlights: Dirt cheap, really. You can get this airbrush for $20-30 more then these cheap knock off airbrushes; and it is still 1/2 to 1/10th the price of the high end airbrushes. Easy of cleaning and maintenance. Compared to other airbrushes a golden highlight is the size and fitting of the tip. Without exaggerated it is 3 times or more bigger then other airbrush tips. This means when (not if) you accidently drop it during cleaning it does not disappear into the carpet or bounce off in a random direction to never be seen again. In addition, it sits on the body of the airbrush. No special tool(s) needed for assembly or disassembly. No rubber o-rings. When you need to clean your airbrush you can use alcohol (ISP) and it will not deteriorate any delicate parts. Different tip & needle sizes. This airbrush comes with a 0.5 mm tip and needle. For around $10 you can buy a 0.3 mm and or 0.7 mm tip and needle set. This alone will give you a super wide range of applications you can use this airbrush for. Oh and the needles have different colored handles so you can easily tell which size you have installed and which size those that are laying around are. Trigger and Finger Rest. Badger makes a bigger trigger called the High Hat Trigger which will fit on this airbrush. Only difference is a longer shaft so you have a far greater deal of control over how far back you pull your trigger and thereby how much paint you spray out. Badger also makes a plastic Finger Rest that you can fit on here. It is just a few dollars and it just makes the feel of the airbrush in your hand so much nicer. If you aren't going to airbrush for very long it isn't needed, the airbrush standard feel good in your hand. But for extended use it's like adding a pillow to your seat. Not needed but it feels nice. Customer service. Badger has hands down, no joke the absolute best customer service I have seen anywhere. Before I even bought an airbrush I emailed Badger with a question and the CEO called me to give me an answer. Then he said he would be happy to answer any other questions might have and would help be figure out the best airbrush for my needs. Again this is the CEO not some minimum wage off shore customer service representative. Warranty. Badger offers a 100% warranty on their products for life. Yes, at any time you have an issue with your airbrush you send it back to them and they will fix it. American made. To some this matters and to others it doesn't, both camps are ok. Badger is 100% made in America, they source their parts and assemble in the heart of America. Drawbacks: There are only 2 possible drawbacks I can share with this airbrush and even then they are super minor if that. The smallest Tip and Needle available for this airbrush is 0.3 mm. Now before you become concerned with this I will share that I was able to spray a 0.018" thick line easily with this setup so 99% of what you are going to spray this airbrush can do. Oh and when I did spray this I wasn't getting bogged down with "dry tip" or clogs. Badger uses a priority thread for their air hose attachment. That just means you need to buy their quick disconnect instead of a generic. It isn't even expensive and you are going to be getting one for your setup anyway so again, it is only a minor if anything of a drawback.

Initial open box review: Just received item; well packed; plastic box is in good condition. Open up; the 105 looks great in new condition and comes with a spare nozzle tip. first thing... check action of airbrush... stiff but smooth back and forth. No issue. next is the needle. Pulled out easily, and noted no bend on tip. However, ball at end of needle was painted blue, and had a section slightly scratched and faded. (See picture) No big deal as it is only cosmetic. Now here is the part I have issues with. When i checked the paint cup, I noted the bottom half of the paint cup was completely cloudy due to scratches. (see picture) I am not familiar with the badger brand so I am not sure if this is meant to be normal. But the Sparmax Max-3 I had before have a very smooth paint cup from top to bottom. Even the badger's bottom of the paint cup looked like it is already slightly blemished for a new product. Next, I was not able to unscrew the head assembly and air intake valve by hand. I was lead to believe it is recommended the parts be screwed in to hand tightness; However, I had to get a pair of pliers to unscrew the head assembly and air valve. It seems the tightness was caused by some corrosion which held the cap harder than it should be. I am still unable to remove the regulator of the head due to limited tools in the office. I have not yet tested the spraying of it yet; Am considering if I should return for an exchange.or keep it as I need it for a project. Update: (12-Jan-16) Decided to return the first one as it is corroded... easy arrangement for the return with Amazon's online service team. and they also have arranged for the new one to be shipped express to Australia. Received within 4-5 working day Now, the new replacement's condition is better.. Still slight snow scratch in the paint cup, but not as bad. Needle head can be removed by had, but the needle head tip is screwed in tight. had to use 2 pliers to flick it open. Good news is that it doesnt have any obvious corrosion on it. however the air action was a little rough.. .guess it needs to be oiled like some other reviewers mentioned. Spray it last night (lucky I had an adapter for Badger AB) easy spray kit... easy to clean.. I sprayed some Valejo primer which normally clogs my Sparmax Max3, and it shot without any problem. Pulled needle out quickly, some thinner to rinse, push needle back in, another flush and a wipe with a paper towel, and off I go with a new colour.... great for model spray job with lots of colour change which is what I bought the 105 for. Overall, wish the condition of the 105 was better. But it does it job very well. Increased my rating from 3 star to 4.

First off, to rebut the reviewers who claimed to receive a used brush at a discount price and were unhappy - I purchased a brush here at Amazon for $56 Prime, and although it arrived unwrapped in an open case, it was in what I deem to be "new" condition. The entire brush was clean and unused and after a full inspection of all parts I can easily say that this may possibly be the BEST value for the money when it comes to dual-action airbrushes. If it were a used brush, I can't tell, and getting a quality piece of equipment at this price is more important to me than having to make sure the item was unused previously. Now the brush - I haven't used the one I ordered specifically, but I've used a borrowed Badger Patriot 105 several times previously and let me say that there is not a finer piece of equipment on the market for under $200-$250. It is the easiest to clean and is extremely versatile. It gives you the freedom to work on just about any project that would require an airbrush. I don't believe I've ever dealt with a brush that is just as adept at commercial art/artist use as it is for use with cake decorating, model painting, minatures, t-shirts, etc., etc. This is definitely a do-it-all brush and at under $60, there isn't a better value to be had anywhere. It has sturdy, made in the USA construction and can be completely unassembled in less than a minute. It's gravity fed of course and comes with a very generous cup and the needle removal is a cinch. The only negatives I may say are that the brush struggles with extremely fine detail. This is not really a problem however unless you're into airbrushing with a magnifying glass, lol. The major flaw in the design, however, is that the needle protrudes from the nozzle slightly, leaving the needle exposed and making it susceptible to damage. Not much to complain about, but it is a reasonable complaint. All in all, this is a grade A brush and whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, there isn't a better value or a better brush anywhere in this price range.

I’ve had this thing for four years and it’s just been amazing. I mainly use it for priming and base coats and it works really well. I’ve used it to paint miniatures as well as some bigger pieces and never felt discomfort while using it. It’s also worth noting that Badger offers lifetime free labor services, so if there’s something wrong with your airbrush, you can just send it to them and they’ll fix it for you. Which, I honestly think, makes it worth the price you pay for it, plus I’ve had this thing for years and never really had any issues with it. This was my first “real” airbrush and it’s just one of those that I keep going back to.

What can I say, I'm blown away. Before of you would have told me that an airbrush for this price would be this awesome, I would have told you that I don't like liars or scam artist. I have mainly only used Iwata. I tried a couple cheaper priced airbrushes and was not happy with them at all. So for years, that's all I've used. I came across this one and read the reviews and watched some videos about it and thought to myself "why not"? Am I glad I went ahead and ordered it. First off the trigger is one piece. That was one of the main selling points for me getting this brush. It does not fold or bend, soooooo much easier to put back in. Then you do not have to remove the handle to adjust the needle. I know it may not seem like a big thing, but it does get annoying sometimes when you have to take off the handle to adjust the needle. And three flow of your paint and the quality is does, you would not realize your working with a brush that costs the price it does. It's as if they listened to what people complained about airbrushes and actually did something about it. If you're new or a veteran at airbrushing, this is a must have in your arsenal
