Bought these pens to use the gold on a black label I placed on a black and gold gift box so I could write my giftee's name out with decorative flair. You have to give a little shake of the pen and then gently press down the spring-controlled tip just a few times for the gold paint to seep into it for the first time and then it's good to go. Be sure to tightly cap the pen when done using and to test it on a safe surface before each use in case a little pump is needed to get it going again...too much pumping and the paint could get drippy. Be kind to the pen so it does a good job and lasts a long time. I love the matte, true gold color, and writing was drip-free and easy with no "color skipping." Print is medium fine point -- not "thread-line" skinny -- which is perfect for my purposes, and it completely dried in a matter of minutes. Can't wait to use the silver paint pen next on my black and silver stock greeting cards! ... show more

    • Fell apart the first time I used one
The very first time I attempted to use one of these, the entire thing fell apart. The nib at the end came off in multiple pieces! I tried using a different pen later, but it just didn't work at all. I shook it, pressed down to get the ink flowing, and after several minutes of not getting anything out of the tip, I ended up intentionally pulling that one apart. I poured small bits of the ink onto a piece of cardboard and used a fine-tipped paint brush to apply the ink. I have no clue if I just got a bad batch, but these are basically very difficult to use small tubes of paint.. ... show more
