  • Excellent for the Price
Size: 8 in Style: 300 Watts Pattern: Subwoofer
I bought two of these for a small home theater setup. I have a 7.2.2 Dolby Atmos setup. These little 8s have great punch, just the right amount of bass. I was concerned that it wouldn't have enough umph, but I am pleasantly surprised. I used LFE inputs from my Yamaha receiver and it works just great. Advice: Give these guys some time to warm up. Don't just jump into an action movie and expect magic. They need a break in period of a couple days, I recommend playing some music through them for a bit. I used 80s rock. After break in, the bass is tight and crisp, not booming. Perfect for that added layer without overwhelming the rest of the tracks. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and would buy these again for a music room. ... show more

  • Good Sub for The Money but Returned
Size: 12 in Style: 500 Watts Pattern: Subwoofer
First I am an audiophile and a snob for good sound. I worked in the music business for over a decade as a musician, sales rep, and ran music stores in FL but that was a past life long ago. I have always bought reference series components and knew what this was when I bought it. I just did not want to spend $500+ for the sub I should have bought and thought this would be ok for the application. My front towers handle all the bass I need for the music styles I listen to so this was only for LFE when watching movies. Since this had LFE (which most low cost subs do not) and decent reviews, I figured what the heck as it will only be for LFE in movies. The Good: - For someone who is upgrading from an all in one / pre-packaged system, this is a good way to get better bottom end for music (if you have small satellites). - For the typical 80Hz crossover configuration, this sub is "very good value" for those who cannot afford a proper reference or THX certified sub using all small speakers. The Bad: - My towers produced better bass and better LFE than this sub being added. Note my system is 15 years old and this purchase was to replace a reference quality 12 inch sub that burnt up last year. I know what a proper sub should add to my system. - It is clear this sub is NOT 500W RMS....I think 150-300 (if you are lucky) RMS. It is also clear the woofer has a minimal magnet / driver. I was not expecting dual coil, but at least a decent one. I did not take it apart but I bet doing so would confirm. It is simply not capable of properly producing high impact LFE under 80hz. I know it is not THX, I actually have 60+ going to my fronts and cross over at 60hz to the sub. I tried both 80 and 60 with this and was not impressed. I think this is for really small systems where you need to cross over 100-150 to pick up some low end. - I was able to PU an Infiniti reference 12 inch for $199 on sale vs $499. That pushed me to return this. Despite the negatives, I think this is a great sub for low-cost system builds. I would (and might) buy it again when we finish adding another room to the house that will have a sitting and supplemental AV area for games and movies. ... show more

  • Adds depth to the sound overall
Size: 12 in Style: 500 Watts Pattern: Subwoofer
I have a system with a total output of 1000 Watts RMS feeding 4 Bose 901 series V & VI speakers. I use it to stream music from the Web. The 901 speakers seem to have very limited responce below 100hz. Adding this subwoofer really transformed the sound for the better. It surprises me that adjusting the output to a level to enhance the sound results in very little sound volume from the subwoofer even as it greatly enhances the depth and resonance of the sound. ... show more

  • Good choice
Size: 12 in Style: 500 Watts Pattern: Subwoofer
This 250 watt RMS subwoofer really enhanced my 500 watt RMS Technics surround sound system. I had my doubts that it would mean much, since my main speakers are 2 JBLs with 15" woofers, but it really improved the whoooomp of an already powerful system. I've pounded the crap out of this subwoofer for almost 2 years now and it has shown to be up to the task. I would rate it 5 stars except that they advertise it as a 500-watt subwoofer when it's really only 250 RMS, which I just found out today and I am disappointed (now I can only brag that I have a 750-watt stereo instead of 1000. LOL). I should've checked more in depth before I bought it, but all in all, before I found out the actual power rating, I loved it, so I have to give it 4 stars based on that alone. Also, I mainly use my stereo for listening to loud rock and rarely use it for movies, but this subwoofer performs well in either scenario. ... show more
