  • Solid built, entry-level gaming laptop, but has some drawbacks for the price
Overall, this laptop is built really well barely any flex even though it’s made mostly out of plastic, but it does have a metal frame for the screen on the outside, which will show fingerprints, but that’s not a big deal. I like the four zone RGB built into the keyboard backlighting it’s got a decent WebCam, which also liable cover for privacy. The specs on this is one of the first drawbacks. It comes with an RTX 50-50 laptop version GPU, which is pretty low on on the end of the 50 series GPU’s but that also keeps the cost lower for the system now where the system really struggles is that it only comes with eight gigs of DDR five system ram and it kind of struggles pretty bad with just eight gigs if buying the system probably the first thing you wanna do is upgrade to 16 gigs at minimum because windows does use a lot and once you start a game it’s it’s just gonna get bogged down pretty quick with only eight gigs. The speakers they do sound good, but their positioned badly on the laptop where they should have either been on the sides or the top of the keyboard area rather than facing down and outward to the side they would’ve sounded so much better but that’s not a huge deal if you’re gonna use headphones anyway mouse pad is pretty good. It’s large which I really like. It’s typical this gaming these gaming laptops. The screen is amazing. The clarity the colors the size love it. The hinge for the system screen is also pretty good. It doesn’t feel fragile. Ventilation on the bottom, I guess it’s pretty good for what is in there I like the exhaust layout and it looks nice. I also like that it comes with built-in RJ 45 for hard wiring gaming sessions. Key presses are really nice as far as distance travel for the keyboard. it does have a built-in muck switch, which is automatic. I think it’s a newer version of the muck switches which switches between integrated graphics the Intel integrated graphics and the discreet and videographics when demand needs it. I do enjoy the 165 Hz for fresh rate compliments the 19 20 x 1200 display and the RTX 50-50 card. The laptop does stay pretty cool it the fan noise isn’t bad like there’s no wine to it. I like the design of the fan noises. One of the coolest features is the on the fly performance button located in the top, left hand corner of the keyboard which you can switch from silent balance turbo performance, I think the highest I ever go, though is performance if you go to Turbo, I think you need it to be plugged in. Battery life is pretty good, especially since switching between power settings. You do get HDMI 2.1 as well as thunderbolt four which is also USB 3.2 GEN two type sea port and you can charge with that type sea port but only up to 100 W so just a little slower than 135 W power adapter that comes with it. Overall, the value of this is pretty good but on the high-end side because I’ve seen some comparable deals out there with slightly better specs like a RTX 5060 and 16 gigs of RAM with the same screen, refresh rate same screen, specs and comparable, cool gaming design aesthetics from other well-known brands. ... show more

  • Good computer for kids
I bought this laptop for my son, who is much more knowledgeable about gaming computers than I am, and he has been extremely happy with it. The screen is beautiful and the refresh rate makes his games look smooth, especially compared to his old laptop. He can play his games, use Discord, and have other things running without the laptop struggling to keep up. It has a pretty big SSD and starts up quickly and games load fast, although we may eventually add more storage with how large games are now. It comes with 8GB of DDR5 memory, which has been fine so far, but that's another thing we may upgrade down the road. My son also really likes the backlit keyboard and the overall look of the laptop. There are plenty of connections for his gaming accessories, including USB ports and4 USB-C. I definitely had to rely on him to explain why some of these specs mattered, but I can see the difference in how well everything runs. ... show more

  • Decent 1080P Machine, Lower Than Expected Benchmarks
I’ve typically built my own full-sized gaming PC’s and have never owned a gaming laptop, until now. I went in expecting low price-to-performance here and, to an extent, that is true. You can piece out a much more powerful machine for the money, but the Nitro is still a formidable and portable 1080P gaming machine. It only features 8gb of GDDR5 system RAM, so it’ll almost certainly struggle as a workstation for most practical purposes. For gaming, however, the onboard 5050 adds another 8gb of dedicated GDDR7, making it a solid choice for 1080p gaming. I ran a 3DMark Timespy benchmark and achieved a score of 7,539. That’s a little lower than I’d hope at this price point. That’s perhaps attributable to it using a newer gen 5050 over a prior gen 4060 or higher. The 5050 might show better performance than its older siblings in upscaling (DLSS), frame-gen, and Nvidia’s latest features, but I’m not sure the overall knock in performance is worth it. Thermals stayed reasonable throughout, with only a couple brief spikes that were quickly remedied by the Nitro’s seemingly efficient cooling design. The fans get loud but not annoyingly so, and they get the job done. At the time of writing, a CanYouRUNit report of this system shows it meeting 95% of all minimum requirements for games and 66% of recommended. The built-in keyboard is aesthetically appealing and the keys all feel pleasant to use. I appreciate the dedicated numpad. The onboard display also looks pretty good and gets plenty bright. Overall, this laptop delivers decent gaming performance in a small form factor. I really wish they squeezed another 8gb of system memory in here. Even given current RAM pricing, I feel like 16gb would make the list price more palatable. It also benchmarks a little low for this price range, but actual gaming performance may be enhanced if you plan to take full advantage of Nvidia gen 5 features. This is still a good portable gaming laptop, but I would have liked to see more performance squeezed into it at the current list price. ... show more

  • Great budget gaming laptop. Low RAM restricts a lot though.
This is a great entry-level, budget gaming laptop with the bare essentials. It has a slim, sleek design, good keyboard layout with RGB backlights, and fast startup. Initial setup took only a few minutes, but be prepared to uninstall a couple of unnecessary programs. Also make sure to update the Nvidia app and any drivers before use to get the most out of it and avoid any bugs. If you’re looking to game casually, or run games that aren’t graphically intense, this is a great rig as is. But if you’re planning to run graphically demanding AAA games like CoD or BG3, you’re either gonna have to make do with low-med settings or deal with constant throttling/stuttering. Just to give you an idea, I ran a couple of games of Apex Legends on this (optimized by Nvidia). CPU and GPU ran great overclocked and kept temps in the optimal ranges. Fans are loud of course, but you’re gonna find that in pretty much any gaming laptop on the market. Who’s gaming without noise cancelling headphones anyway? FPS was consistently at 120-140 just running around. However, during every single fight the FPS dropped and struggled to maintain 60 FPS. Lots of stutter and delay, causing me to lose the majority of the time. This is all because of the lack of RAM. 8 gigs of RAM just doesn’t cut it anymore for modern games. I was at a constant 90% and higher RAM usage the entire time, and that was the only Program running and no other windows open. As long as you intend to upgrade the RAM, this is a great gaming rig. The 5050 graphics card runs very well and the fans in this do a good job of keeping it cool. Didn’t even need to bust out my cooling pad for the 4 hours that I played. ... show more

  • Get it and an extra 8 gb chip, or build it out. MASSIVE Potential!
Ok, this is a 5 star laptop, if it had 16 gb of ram, the only knock i can give it is that at boot after the minimal (good job acer) bloatware was removed it was using 5.7 gb out of 7.7 gb, which was probably paging because it was using a 7.4 after the memory upgrade.. If you look at the images, i opened up the ram chip it came with so you can order an other 8 gb chip. This thing runs GREAT with a bit more ram!! Now on to the fun, i had 64 gb laying around, and this says it only supports 32, lets see... Yep, 64 gb of ram, and i ran the ram tests for 2 days, no errors, so we're good there.. I wanted Linux, AND window, as this is my portable machine that I'll be using to tune cars, as well as personal stuff. So i pulled the 512gb drive and slapped in a 4tb drive, installed catchyOS which had all the drivers built into the installer, so it took no effort. Then i put the 512gb drive in the second slot and now i can press f12 at boot to select which os i want. Note - i had to turn off secure boot for it to even boot from a usb drive, and set the preference to boot from Linux, as it will always pick windows as the preferred drive regardless of the slot. ALSO, no worries, both slots fit dual sided drives, so no need to go finding a single sided drive if you want to upgrade. Now, about the behavior, The battery life was slightly lower than claimed in windows, and far longer in Linux, so I'll sign off on that claim. The laptop absolutely screams (for what it is) with the ram increased, but was not too bad with the 8 gb, but that isn't really enough for what most would use a machine with 8 gb of VRAM for.. Heat was great, i put a massive load on this with benchmark software and there really wasn't much in the way of heath throttling going on, as you can see from the pictures, this has a significant cooling system in it, so that's to be expected. I ADORE the mechanical camera cover (good job yet again Acer!) and the keyboard looks and feels GREAT. As i said, this is solidly a 5 star laptop with 16 gb of ram, and 1 8 gb stick isn't too bad when added to the price. The screen is beautiful, very fast for gaming, the color is excellent and it gets sufficiently bright for use just about anywhere. The thing that makes this a SOLID 5 star machine, honestly, is the effort Acer put into it's design. REALY nice screen of a good size, but very thin laptop, with enough space for 2 dual sided ssd's and while Acer lists support for 32 GB, 64 GB has worked perfectly in my testing. Now, you may be thinking "yeah, but i'm not doing that", and you'd be missing my point here. Aside form adding 8 gb, which makes this machine an EXCELLENT gaming pc, you have space to grow, you don't have to throw out the os drive, just get a cheap large drive for storage and add it.. A few years form now, don't buy a new laptop, increase the ram.. Comparing this to most of these types of machines make this machine really stand out, because of it's flexibility, you may not want what i built, but now you know what's possible as well as how shockingly well built it is. And also, because I'm completely out of my mind, Gemma E4b with Speech to text is running on this flawlessly right now :) my own little portable AI, i use cloud-basted TTS, so i have the full setup, with Hermes, many MCP servers and Gemma running on this thin laptop with no heat issues (16 gb could easilly do this). One thing to note, unless your looking to really use the 5050 card, you will be content even with the 8gb of ram. but i'm not a fan of leaving power on the table, so to me, that extra 8 gb stick is king. If you were to buy this and use it for quite some time before buying ram, i think you'd still be happy, just not able to do everything the laptop is capable of without the extra 8 gb. TLDR: you want an extra 8gb of ram, it's upgradeable beyond any reason, and it's more powerful than you'd expect. ... show more
