  • Happy with this purchase.
It works perfectly! I love it. I played the sims 4 and cyberpunk on it and it was smooth, no heating problems so far. Not heavy at all and very slim. I use it for coding as well and battery lasted long enough for a laptop, for games I have it plugged in most of the time.

  • Amazing speed and super style
The brand acer, I give 10 stars. Love the unit. The only negative is the Microsoft process to get into the desktop! Ok, that out of the way. First impressio, it is well built. matte black, and easy to hold onto. It has all the ports you need. It functions provide enouh items of ports and hdmi, power usb to fit just about any tech person. It is vey fast. I came from an older laptop so this was a huge addition. The video card is really fast. The best part is the screen, a matte finish and looks awesome and even better when you tweak it and use HDR and play any game. The is not that much heat, yes it gets warm, but the fans are not that loud and it keeps it cool. I used the Acer Notro software that wa sinstalled to boost to turbo mode and left it there for hours. Ran very well and seems like that is the way to go. Might take away from battery power but I will mostly have it plugged in. Confirmed it has the most you can get from a laptop. The memory is fast and the SSD NVE is fast too at 1rb. I might upgrade the SSD to a Crucial T705 since I have that in my desktop and love the faster speeds. In the end, the is a brand new mfg in may2025 with all the specs and hardware one would need. I love it! ... show more

  • Good value, powerful performer in AI and gaming space for a portable device
The media could not be loaded. To set up Windows without a Microsoft cloud account: 1) Do not connect an ethernet cable to laptop. 2) On Windows device setup screen, press shift+F10, which should bring up command prompt. 3) In command prompt, type the following and press enter: OOBE\BYPASSNRO 4) Laptop will restart and enter device setup screen again. 5) Continue through keyboard layout setup as normal. 6) When screen for connecting to the Internet pops up, you should now see an option below wireless network names that says "I don't have Internet." Click that to continue through setup with only a local account. 7) Once setup finishes, you can connect to the Internet. Windows will still phone home and hand over your data without a cloud account. This is almost wholly fixable, but it's far too involved to write out here. There are more than a dozen bloat/trial/spy apps; if you should want, this can be removed via the "add or remove programs" module. included is McAfee, an Acer-branded VPN software, a relatively (for a laptop) advanced overclocking software suite, and a >400MB "e-sports platform." For battery capacity test, I streamed video from local network server to it continuously. This was after the bloat was removed; laptop configuration options are all factory except that I set the display to never turn off. Video properties: 1080p@60fps, 3967kb/s average bitrate h264 mp4. Laptop played video for 11 hours and 10 minutes before shutting off. AI and gaming performance impressed me. It had no problem running Total War: Warhammer 3, 7 Days to Die, Against the Storm, or Satisfactory at full resolution while also having to record itself. I've included some samples from gameplay testing in a video to give you an idea (pardon the encoding issues; the games do look more crisp and fluid than presented in the video). I was also pretty surprised it was able to run a 12B autoregressive LLM model with reasonable speed. Via ollama, the process is very straightforward on Windows, and once ollama is going, can serve it over open webui or whatever you prefer for a graphical interface. Diffusion models should similarly work well so long as you aren't trying for 4k resolution images. I wasn't able to directly address the NPU in the Ryzen CPU after a few tests; I generated an INT8-only model to try having Windows choose the NPU for running my inference script against, but this did no good. The display looks excellent in-person. You eat quite a bit extra in power consumption by running it at 180hz, and I personally don't think it's worth it to do so; however, it is a noticeable improvement for games the GPU can run that fast for in terms of animation smoothness, especially when moving the camera around. The 1920x1200 resolution is a bit odd, and causes the laptop overall to look a bit more square like those of yore; I assume this was done more to fit components in without causing thermal issues rather than that they actually wanted a relatively square display. On cooling, the device does get HOT when stressed, and tries to blow and radiate that heat out aggressively (though not terribly loudly relative to a desktop computer), and you shouldn't rest it on your lap while playing a hungry 3D game without some kind of pad. I didn't experience noticeable thermal throttling real-world while playing games, but I also didn't stress-test the device. As a point of curiosity, I did take the back off the laptop (remove screws on the underside, then pop the underside off the plastic latches; I had luck pushing at the rear corner pulling the exhaust panel up while pushing down on the corner) and have a peek after reading it has a spare m.2 slot in there. I find it indeed did, along with user-replaceable RAM modules. I popped a spare NVMe drive in and put Ubuntu on it, which I'm a bit disappointed to report runs poorly. It's zippy enough, but the power consumption relative to it running Windows is ~3x, while framerates are substantially worse in games. Perhaps mobile component drivers still need some work, or some configuration is needed after setup which wasn't immediately obvious to me; some distros may work substantially better. Overall, I judge the device to be a pretty good value. The weakest point is probably connectivity, being limited to few USB 3.2 ports (though the sole USBC port on the back support connecting to a USBC monitor). It does have an aux connector, HDMI out, and can take an SD card. The strongest points are the graphics module, extremely fast 1TB NVMe SSD, and the included slot for an extra. ... show more
