This unit replaced a much-loved Acer Chromebook R13, which was about 8+ years old and originally was our sons homework computer. It was used extensively during the COVID lockdown for remote schooling and never missed a beat. It was, in short, a super reliable, tough little computer. It is being recycled into a Linux laptop. We purchased this Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 before XMAS 2025 as a present. The price is a substantial discount over the new price. One might assume that this might not include the 1-year free Google Gemini - but it does! The Chromebook came in nonstandard packaging, a simple cardboard outer box, and a custom sealed air wrapper that fits tightly around the Chromebook. The power supply is included in a separate cardboard box. The computer was unwrapped before XMAS to check it out and charge up the battery. It was also registered, updated, and all applications loaded. Issues found: one minor issue. On two separate occasions, the laptop failed to boot properly. This is minor and an inconvenience. As this is used daily now, there have been no repeats of this behavior. This might be why it was originally returned, as it can seem like the computer has failed and will not start. So this is an observation, and it may be due to the power switch having some contamination, as there have been no repeats of this behavior. The audio is also very, very good for a laptop - although a little on the quiet side perhaps, but not a problem for our use. Some pictures are included that highlight the product's various aspects, including its condition and quality. The screen is excellent. Although the contrast is not as high as the current Samsung with its AMOLED screen, it is a great trade-off to have a touch screen, which allows a lot of flexibility in use. So screen, sound, and keyboard are all rated excellent. This Chromebook Plus is one of the few that features the "Plus" designation and has a touch screen. It has a large amount of on-board memory at 256GB. The keyboard is excellent. The only slight negative is that the grey color makes it hard to view in very bright light. It is quite fast and is high up on the top performers comparison charts. This is born out in daily use as it is very quick and responsive. We have a similar Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Plus that has an excellent OLED screen - but it is not a touchscreen - and features the i3 processor. The difference between the Ultra 5 Intel processor, especially for AI tasks, is noticeable. But here's the thing, Chromebooks are not like Windows PCs the degradation with age is not very apparent, and they age gracefully. Honestly, the ROI over conventional Windows laptops is significant. But it means that this computer should have signiifcant run way in our household. This was why we made the trade-off to buy a premium model, and traded that off with buying refurb to balance the economics. Personally, this seems a great trade-off if you can get by the basic shipping carton packaging and the fact that it has been returned. The computer itself - which you will keep unlike the packaging - had zero blemishes, marks, or scratches. That made it very giftable! In use, it is fantastic, as already noted. So your decision, standard factory packaging, or a plain brown box and custom bubble wrap. By the way, battery life is per specs, and has never been run down to less than 60% since purchased, despite all-day use. So in conclusion, this is a premium product, offered refurbished in excellent condition, that should last many years and be supported by Google for the software. The device AUE is not yet published, so it likely has something like 6-7 years (best guess) from 2025. It is also possible that, like the older Acer R13, it will receive extended life support. So for the Economist amongst us, this represents a good investment, and is recommended by Dr. Seuss! ... show more

This computer came in great condition my only concern is the battery life doesn’t seem as long as my previous one, it’s still pretty decent though. Other than that it works great, was in great condition and I’m very pleased
