  • Large screen but short battery life.
CPU: i7-1165G7 Style: Notebook Only
The first thing I would say is that the laptop is pretty large with a large screen. If your main goal is to throw it in a bag and take it with you everywhere then this may not be for you. But if you are doing video editing or just like a larger screen then I think the picture quality is good. Just having it sit on my lap, I find that if I'm watching videos in full screen mode I have to push the screen back because it is too close. The screen has a matte finish, which I like, so there is no glare from lights. I think the picture quality is very good too. The battery life was advertised at 8 hours on average. This isn't even close - more like 4 hours. In fact, it seemed like I would get a notice to plug in the power supply so often I decided to run a test today. After a full charge I unplugged and used the laptop consistenty browsing the internet, watching Youtube videos and streaming a show. At 3.5 hours I got a notice to plug in which happens at 20% battery life. Right now I am at exactly 4 hours as I type this and I am at 12% battery life. So I would say the maximun will be about 4.5 hours. This is pretty disappointing and, in my opinion, a fraudulent claim in the description. It does boot up fast - a matter of seconds it seems. The fingerprint reader is annoying to me as it only works for me about 1/2 of the time. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't for no apparent reason. When it doesn't, it asks you to place your finger again. Sometimes it works then and sometimes it doesn't. After a few attempts it requires you to put in your 4 digit pin. What is really annoying about this is that the power saving feature shuts the thing down seemingly quite often when there is no direct use. So you are using it, put it down for 5 or 10 minutes, come back and the screen is off. You hit power and you have to use the fingerprint reader again, which only works half of the time. Maybe the short battery life would be more tolerable if I wasn't always in power saving mode. I just got a notice to plug in at 10 % battery life and I am at 4 hours and 8 minutes of use now. Other than that, the speed seems quite sufficient for browsing, streaming content and other basic tasks. It does have a nice modern sleek design, which I like. ... show more

  • Awesome computer for the price!
CPU: i5-1135G7 Style: Notebook Only
Let me start out by saying that this is a great computer for the price. It is NOT a computer for power gaming or professional video editing, but for real people doing real work and enjoying less INTENSE gaming it is great! Now, before I bought this I asked a couple of questions on here regarding upgrading. I got one answer from someone allegedly associated with Acer saying that "The internal components such as the wifi card are not upgradeable on the laptop products." Not so. Within 90 minutes of receiving this I had: 1. Replaced the 512GB NVMe with a 1TB (Acer) NVMe, 2. Added a 2TB SATA 3 SSD, 3. Increased 8GB the RAM to 20GB, 4. Replaced the 2230 PCIe WiFi card with an Intel AX210 for WiFi 6e, and 5. Installed the Linux Mint 20.3* operating system. Now, I admit that I have been a "computer person" for 40+ years, but these upgrades were quite simple. This is my second Acer computer in less than a year. I find that Acer, in general, has good value for the price. Both of my Acers run Linux (one dual boots with Windows) flawlessly and it was VERY easy to install. For the price this machine is quite powerful, and my upgrades (ALL obtained here on Amazon) just make it even more so. I play mid-level games (even at age 60+ :), I do "office things", I program, and I even do some video editing and transcoding. Everything is very smooth. The display is VERY good for an IPS LCD (I wasn't looking to spend a small fortune for OLED), the keyboard is good and even the touch pad is quite responsive. I like it. I am well satisfied with this purchase and will likely continue to purchase Acer product. I have had only a single issue with Acer. My other Acer has warnings about not leaving it plugged in once the battery is charged. I did in fact slightly damage the battery. I haven't tried leaving this one plugged in, although I didn't find any warnings with this one. (But, really, an overcharge protection circuit is a really cheap and simple thing; why not include one?) At any rate, contrary to Acer's opinion, the batteries are easily replaceable. * If you want to put Linux Mint 20.3 on this computer, you will want to install the "Edge" version, or know enough about Linux to upgrade the kernal, to get full hardware support for this machine. ... show more

  • Nice Laptop - One Component Complaint
CPU: i7-1165G7 Style: Notebook Only
Overall, I like this laptop. It is an upgrade from a lagging Acer from 2018. It is fast, has a decent screen, and suits my needs. I am not a gamer, so I have no basis for comparison for graphics and video. Traditionally, I use two external monitors and intended to do so with this laptop. Surprisingly, I could not connect an HDMI to a USB-C cable for one monitor. Upon a deeper dive, I learned that not all USB-C ports are identical and that this model's USB-C does not support bidirectional charging or DisplayPort video. I sourced a QGeeM USB 3.0 Docking Station on Amazon, which solved my issues. All said and done, I like this laptop. Perhaps there was an obvious indicator that the USB-C would not handle video and I missed it. ... show more

I love my laptop. It is everything the seller said it would be. It lived up to, and has exceeded, my expectations.
