  • Solid lock
Style: Modern
Solid lock so far Accidentally dropped it and it fully reset and won’t lock again- trying to fix currently Can’t get ahold of support, lock won’t lock again. Ordered a new lock to use the new key and did the whole reset process and it’s not working. Pretty bummed as this is fairly pricey

  • All show and no go
Style: Modern
This lock started off strong and working properly. At first my only gripes were that the combination was difficult to manipulate and the requirement to push the shackle deep made it difficult to use a heavy gauge chain. About a month ago it became incredibly difficult to open and close the shackle so I hit it with some WD-40 which helped a little. The relief has been temporary but I tolerated it due to the perceived strength of the lock. That all changed yesterday. After less than a year of service, the lock slipped out of my hands, again, fighting to push the shackle in place. It hit the concrete and the shackle guard cracked open. If you look at the pictures you can see the inner material, which looks nothing like solid steel. I'm not sure exactly what this is made of but I expect more out of a $50+ lock. Abus needs to be reminded that they are not in the business of locks, they are in the business of piece of mind. Since I have no confidence in the quality of the product. It is useless to me and I do not recommend it to anyone who wants a heavy gauge lock and the peace of mind that comes with. ... show more

  • Easy to use and holding up to weather so far
Style: Modern
Only thing I have found is that it prevents the numbers from rolling past 0 when scrambling after locking. Probably a security feature and it doesn’t effect functionality but I found it odd. Otherwise has held up great to direct exposure to rain. And after reviewing videos I haven’t found any evidence it can be opened besides using very destructive force which would definitely alert me/the surrounding area. ... show more

  • One of the few combo locks that's worth it
Style: Modern
We bought this lock from the recommendation of a popular locksmith. Many combination locks have a weakness where you can wedge a pick into the dials or into the hasp socket to unlock it. ABUS has done a great job at designing a lock that defeats these common bypass methods. Well done. This is a rather beefy lock otherwise. I saw the other reviews where people said it would seize up on them. Let me tell you... whenever you get a lock that's going to be exposed to the elements for any period of time, you should really proof the lock in a very lightweight oil before use. We let this lock soak in a non-viscous motor oil for 24 hours before setting our own combination and deploying it. And we will be repeating that application of oil every year of service. You can't expect a mechanical device is going to just last without proper care in the elements. This lock works great on our storage unit door, but be warned it is a tight fit on many doors. You might have to bend the storage door handles slightly to accommodate the hasp shape. ... show more

  • Solid, secure lock... until it jammed
Style: Modern
Was solid for about 6 months. Only tricky thing was that the push-down-to-unlock mechanism was a tight fit with my (indoor) storage unit door and took some fiddling with the angle to get right when unlocking. Not the worst tradeoff for what I believed to be a secure, reliable lock. Unfortunately, after around 6 months, some internal mechanism jammed and prevented it from being unlocked. Tried all sorts of tricks to wiggle the combination wheels around. Tried to use the key to reset it and the end of the key BROKE OFF inside of the lock. ... show more

  • The only combination padlock recommended by LPL partner Bosnian Bill
Style: Modern
I believe this is literally the only combination padlock extant in the world which has been recommended by multiple respected locksmiths including the Lockpicking Lawyer's partner Bosnian Bill. It's actually quite reasonably priced considering high security key padlocks typically run $100 and more. They addressed all of the major combination lock attack vectors, including wheel decoding shims, pressure-based decoding, shims into the body, shims into the shackle, a high shackle guard to resist bolt cutting and angle grinders, reset keyhole visual attacks, and general physical attacks. It's really quite a bargain considering the engineering and construction gone into it. If someone knows of any other combination lock which can withstand all of these attacks, please do post a review here so the we can find it. My only wish is that they made a version with a smaller shackle that could be used on a wider range of applications but the simple work around is to use lockout shackle adapters. It does make it quite a bit larger and you'll need to customize the lockout shackle adapter a bit to accommodate this massive shackle. Hey Abus, since you've already figured out how to make un-decodable padlocks, can you extend the line and make some smaller shackle versions? I guess another wish list item would be to add a fifth code wheel so that it could be rated as a level 10 lock. ... show more
