I've used Abu Garcia reels for many years. This one is a little smaller than the 6501 C 3 I normally use but supply chains are slow and I needed a reel so I got what I expected. This reel is better for Steelhead than Chinook but it will do that job also. The reel is rated for 12 lb mono or 30 lb braided. Naturally ,the local sporting goods store had either 20 lb or 50 lb ( limited choices is the apparent future ) so I put 125 yards of 50 lb test braided and it's working pretty well. Circumstances are conditioning us to take what we can get now. But Abu Garcia is a very good, Swedish made product. ... show more

As always, Performance was great. Smooth and flawless casting, Great gear ratio and line capacity. Only use made in Sweden Ambassador reels for this reason. Always had one of these throughout the years. Durable, caught a lot of fish on these more then any reel I have ever used. Cannot go wrong having one of these on hand. ABU Garcia has done a good job keeping these reels simple to use, will last forever. Definitely recommend.

Looks like a nice reel but it arrived late and it had - no protective box , etc . Amazon just shipped in flimsy box the reel comes in. This should have been shipped in a secure package / box. This is not a cheap reel. Not wise to ship this way. Had to send it back as it arrived late. Very hesitant to order similar items if this is the way things are going to be shipped without good packaging. ... show more

This reel is just the newest example of the 6500C3. It's a very smooth reel. It uses the new six pin brake. Don't know if that's better than the old two brake system but it's much easier to adjust braking. To me gearing seems to be quieter too. The various round Ambassadeurs I have from the 50's to now. They are all working. Because parts are available to repair a broken reel. These are still the made in Sweden models and seem just as good as the older ones..They can easily be serviced. You can upgrade the bearings to six on these by installing some available parts. You can easily upgrade the bearings ABEC rating as well. Just good reels that have been around a very long time. Pure Fishing has bought up most of the iconic brands in fishing and moved a lot of production to China. Get one while they are still Swedes. The Chinese S models are different reels all together. Being round the only similarity to the Swedish reels. Parts don’t inter-change. ... show more

This is my 5th 6500C from 30 years ago. This can catch most any fish on the planet. I mainly used it for salt water and trolling fresh water for Stripers and White bass. Great reel. Already caught some bass.

Ive been using this model reel for more that 25 years, most of them last 12 to 14 years, Saltwater fishing a minimum of 3 days a month for 12 months a year. I own 5 of these reels, it is the best choice for my needs
