Kind of thin plastic with reinforced holes on the outside. It will be effective enough to cover the patio so the plants for our short winter time. Plants can still get some light instead of using a regular tarp or regular plastic that will just blow everywhere.

have a 12 x 20 ft covered porch that faces east. the wind blows in from the north all winter cover everything with snow. my wife an daughter smoke out there so I have been hanging heavy duty tear resistant tarps on all sides to block the wind, rain and snow. the problem was the tarps obstructed most of the natural daylight on the porch. this also made our kitchen very dark. my wife found these clear 5mil tarps on amazon. I put them up and hope they can withstand the New England weather that would frequently shred the north facing tarp. purchased 2 extra as back ups. I will review again in the spring. ... show more

I have purchased several of these clear tarps, including a large one. I was a little bit surprised that the listing stated that this was a frequently returned item. Now I understand why. This one is not made the same as the other others. The clear plastic appears to be thick. I'm hoping that it will be durable. The binding on the other tarps was fabric, which gave them excellent durability over the summer. This binding tarp appears to be black plastic folded over the top and stitched. It is very thin and can be torn easily (which I accidentally did...) It states that it's 10' x 12', however it does fall short by about half an inch. It doesn't seem like a big deal but when you're trying to cover a space that is exactly 10' x 12', it is a bit of a deal. I was being very generous by giving it two stars and the only reason I did that is that the tarp is a reasonably thick material. ... show more
