There are two specific reasons I think you buy a camera like this. First, you actually WANT that cool retro handheld-video look. Second, you want to introduce someone to content creation without spending a pile of money getting them started. And honestly, we’re pretty excited about this little camera for both reasons. We normally shoot with considerably more expensive camera equipment, and getting a genuine retro video look from modern cameras often means trying to recreate it afterward with color grading, LUTs, effects, and editing. At under $100, this is a very approachable way to put an actual video camera into the hands of someone interested in learning content creation. And …. Rest assured if they go next level. The phones will stay in their pockets. You get 4K recording, a 3-inch touchscreen, 18X digital zoom, Wi-Fi, IR night vision, webcam functionality, and a remote. I picked this camcorder up to use as a secondary camera alongside my much more expensive camera setup, mainly for capturing B-roll footage and extra angles during content creation. Going into it, I wasn't expecting it to replace professional gear, and honestly, that's not what it's meant to do. What it does do is provide an easy, affordable, and reliable way to capture additional footage without having to carry around thousands of dollars' worth of equipment everywhere I go. For content creation, it's been surprisingly useful. I love setting it up for alternate angles, behind-the-scenes clips, and quick shots that help make my videos feel more dynamic. Sometimes I don't want to risk my primary camera in certain situations, or I simply need another angle running at the same time, and this camcorder has stepped in perfectly for that role. It's lightweight, easy to use, and simple enough that I can hand it to a friend or family member without needing to explain a bunch of settings. Where I think this camera really shines is for everyday recording. Family gatherings, vacations, camping trips, lake adventures, birthday parties, holidays, and home videos are exactly the kinds of memories this camera is great for capturing. I originally picked this camcorder up for the intended purpose of using for an out of the box application - webcam in conjunction with a teleprompter. Sadly, while the resolution and picture would have been sufficient, the zooming feature of the camera just could not get it far enough away from my image. I start this review off with that caveat so you do not attempt to pick this up for that purpose. Now, if you are looking for a decent camera that offers you that old school experience of filming, then this is a great find. It comes with everything you need out of the box to get started on creating memories. While the memory card is not extensive, it does get you filming immediately. I will note that card I received was actually not a memory card, but a traditional size SD card adapter with a mini-SD card installed. I actually prefer this because you can either acquire a normal size card or use what is included and you do not need to purchase an adapter in the future. It comes with a remote as well if you are looking to do some tripod mounted filming and the ability for WiFi connectivity. All in all, it is a pretty decent find in my mind, even if it did not meet the application I wanted - I took a shot :) I appreciate that it comes with the cables you need for making it a webcam, as well as for transferring data. In addition, you also receive batteries for the remote and the camera is protected by a compact carrying case. But if you are in the mood for a blast from the past experience, with higher quality results than old 8mm, then this may just be the camera for you. Who knows, you might just create the next "found footage" viral video for a pretty decent price.

This little camcorder has been a lot of fun to use because it reminds me of the days when I could just pick up a camcorder and start recording without making the whole process complicated. Obviously, this isn't intended to compete with a high-end professional camera, but for casual video recording, I've been pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to use. Setup was very straightforward, and it records directly to an SD card. It actually comes with a 64-gigabyte SD card, so you have storage included and can start using the camera right away. One feature I really like is this 3-inch touchscreen. It rotates, so I can position it at different angles, and I can also turn it around when I need to see the framing from the front. It also has Wi-Fi connectivity, which makes transferring footage more convenient. The camera includes a remote control, which can be handy if you're recording yourself or have the camera positioned where you don't want to keep touching it, and it comes with this small protective carrying case. There is also an 18-times digital zoom. It works reasonably well, but because it is digital zoom, I wouldn't buy this expecting the kind of telephoto image quality you'd get from an optical zoom on a more expensive camera. The most important thing for me is that it has been simple to pick up and use, and the recording quality has been perfectly fine for the type of casual video this camera is designed for. I think this would make a really nice beginner camcorder, especially for someone who wants a dedicated video camera without spending a lot of money or dealing with a complicated setup.
