I tested the solar panel charging various devices I use when operating my ham radio gear when away from home: USB power banks, cell phone, Amazon Fire tablet, AGM lead-acid batteries and LiFePo4 batteries. I was able to change 3 devices at the same time but I understand this will lengthen the time to full charge each compared to charging only one at a time. I did not determine time required to fully charge each device with the solar array. Various adapters are included (power poles, ring terminals, clamps and others). My older 125 watt solar panel did not provide the extra connectors or MPPT controller. MPPT controllers can cost over $100. I consider the Big Blue Solar 120 W package to be a good value. Be aware of potential negatives due to the array design. 1, it is too big and heavey for backpacking. 2, the kickstand supports to hold the array towards the sun are flimsy. 3, the 12 V output from the MPPT controller supplies 60 Watts and not the maximum 120 Watts. 4, the instructions and the Big Blue website do not provide more detailed information. Considering these potential negatives, this solar panel meets my needs and provides a good value. ... show more

    • Does NOT put out full power on DC jack; not even close

Misleading wattage. It will NOT put out 120 watts on the DC jack, for example to a Jackery battery. Max output so far is 40 watts. That is in full sunlight, angled to the sun, 70 degrees temperature. I’ve measured over several days and it has yet to exceed 40 watts on the DC jack. It may offer a greater combined wattage if you use the USB ports and DC jack at the same time. But that is not what I bought this for; I bought it for charging a portable “solar generator.” For this wattage I could have bought a smaller, much more portable panel. EDIT: I connected two Anker batteries to the USB ports, and the wattage on the DC plug actually dropped to 30 watts. so again, full sun / no clouds and only getting a fraction of the rated output. ... show more

50watts is the most I could get out of this "120watt" unit. Awful, just aweful... I have little foldable units that push more than this. I am very unhappy with this panel and am very sorry I bought it. $200 down the drain...

I used this to try charging my CPAP backup battery I just bought, the Renogy 72000mAh 266Wh 12v Power Bank. Why is this a big deal? Most of these same-sized folding panels put out 18v, which is great for the vast majority of the Solar power banks out there. This nice panel here puts out between 12-18v,, and up to 4.45 amps. This is perfect for the Renogy, which requires 15v and 2A input. Those standards are hard to find. Apparently the controller on this Big Blue 80w panel is intelligent enough to do that! It started charging the Renogy right away. Thanks to such a great panel, I will be keeping the CPAP backup. ... show more

Produces lots of power, surprisingly portable for the size that solar panels need to be to produce this much power, and is light weight enough to carry anywhere. The panels get pretty warm, but everything underneath, including the charge controller stays the same temperature as the air. The eyelets are great for securing it and it is much more durable than I thought it would be for this price. The stands could be stronger, but using epoxy to attach wood or metal to them works fantastically. ... show more

I've only used it once, but it put out as advertised, a good 21 VDC unloaded, and 14VDC when connected to a hefty 12VDC gel cell load, that under decent sunlight and using all 4 panels AND that's not even removing the plastic covering that covers the solar cells. I'm sure that's supposed to be removed but for now - why? It's giving me lots of power even while reflecting some sunlight by the plastic covering, and durability is something I worry about when spending $$. Even closing two of the panels it was almost as good at voltage. The real trick will be endurance over time. But so far I'm happy with the purchase. It's a bit heavy though - not something you'd take backpacking! 10 lb in it's sleeve. I like the folding and the magnetic clasps that yet come apart under not too much pull - just right. I bought this for use with a Jackery 240. It works well enough, but in full sun and trying to maneuver the panel for maximum exposure, I only see the Jackery charging at a maximum of ~22-25W. The max charging wattage of the Jackery is supposed to be 65W and the solar panel is rated at 80W, so I'm unsure of why I'm getting a limited output. This seems to be a good product but this confusing lack of performance is the reason for 4 stars. ... show more

I bought the BigBlue 80W Foldable Solar Charger for charging phones, laptops, power banks and batteries during the frequent electrical outages I experience. On an ideal summer day, with no clouds in the sky, it managed to charge my Thinkpad Yoga to 100% in about 6 hours, using the USB-C port, which is quite phenomenal. The BigBlue's charging circuits are intelligent enough to detect if a device is compatible with various fast charging technologies, which means you can charge things about as fast as they can be charged, if you have direct sunlight. The included adapter kit makes the BigBlue compatible with a wide range of laptops, but not all - for example, it has no adapter for ThinkPads without USB-C ports.
