I'm not easy to impress. I was just looking for something to provide more magnification than the illuminated magnifier mounted to my workbench and I saw this. I figured that at this price it was worth keeping around for occasional use. When it arrived and I set it up and tested it I was genuinely impressed. I haven't used a microscope since high school - the ones in biology class that use slides - and I was pleasantly surprised at the picture quality and ease of use. Note that this is NOT the equivalent of a lab microscope that illuminates from below the stage. This is more the equivalent of a high powered illuminated magnifying glass, precisely why I bought it, that illuminates from above. I wish I had saved it but I had taken a picture of a bee stinger that I had removed from my eyebrow. It looked like something from a horror show. The two pictures attached were taken for this review. The red one is a standard resolution (8 megapixel) picture of a Sandisk TF card, the other picture is a high res (12 megapixel) picture of a tape measure. The hashes are 1mm apart. I use this a lot more than I expected to, it is a fun toy with a practical use also. The instructions (or lack of) could use some help but it is fairly easy to figure out. There was one piece in the kit that was not mentioned anywhere. As it turns out it is a shield to block direct illumination from the lights around the lens. This is useful if you have a problem viewing a reflective surface. If you replace the clear ring with the shield and use the lights mounted on the platform it eliminates any reflection back into the lens. The clear barrel slides straight off, don't try to twist it off because it is keyed in place. If it is difficult to remove wiggle it side to side to work it off. To install the shield place it around the lens silver side up and rotate it until it moves into position then give it a slight turn to the left to lock it in place. This is a good sturdy microscope at an excellent price point. The item is exactly as described and arrived promptly. Does not take up too much space on our hobby table. We can easily set it up and put it away in a cabinet when not in use. Really fun for us in our hobbies and grandkids can enjoy and learn how to use a microscope properly. We are familiar with microscopes and found that helpful with assembly. Our only recommendation for improvement regards the assembly instructions. We recommend greater clarity primarily for the person who has never had a microscope and their high school science class was long ago. We give 5 stars for the product overall and would purchase again. ... show more

The company was extremely thankful for my purchase and I can definitely see doing business with them again. This is a great buy for me and my growing coin collection and helps me spot fake coins when I suspect. I like the two very bright movable lights which give me a great way to catch a multitude of issues with close up pictures of the coins.
