  • This is a fine, inexpensive digital microscope
I was pleased when I put this little scope together and used it. I've been using a small stereo dissecting scope for years but needed a camera, so I tried this little digital scope. For the low magnification I need it's fine, it's not so good at the extreme 1200X it claims, but it's usable at the higher magnification. It may be a plus that the rig has a rechargeable battery that will power the lamps and the display for at least an hour or so without it being plugged in. The focus is a little bit touchy to use, is not a knob with a rack and pinion like an ordinary scope, is a knurled ring that's turned directly. And it's not a true 'zoom' scope as advertised since it needs to be refocused when the head is moved up or down to adjust the magnification. But, it can be focused sharply and it does have adjustable magnification. I believe it's excellent value for somebody who wants to get good video or photos of biological samples, or the coins in the headline. It didn't work so well for what I need to do this time, which is brushing through samples in a Petri dish looking for microscopic eggs and hatchling worms. I'm spoiled by years of working with a stereo scope and find it's much easier using tools with the stereo and betterdepth of field of an optical scope. I bought the trinocular stereo zoom scope and camera I've always wanted. I had to pay nearly $600+ for that rig. Of course the new scope with binocular stereo and big optics looks and feels better. But, for about $100 I don't think this little scope can be beat for good value if you don't need stereo vision. I sold this scope on eBay after using it for a few days, added an SD card to it, and got back $80 from the happy buyer. It was worth the $20 bucks to see that an inexpensive, digital scope can be this good. I love my new, huge, trinocular dissecting scope that puts the binoculars right at eye level and has an 18 MegaPixel camera. And, I like this little digital scope fine, for 1/6th the price. I'd suggest it's an excellent scope for somebody in school or for somebody with a hobby that doesn't need stereo. It's ideally suited as the 'coin microscope' it's advertised as, is also fine for anything that needs looking at. ... show more

  • Great microscope for viewing coins
UPDATE: I received the new microscope a few days later. I really like the picture and it's easy to focus. All the parts were in the box and it was easy to assemble. I have been using the microscope almost everyday, for a couple of hours at a time. The charge cord is short so I use my 6ft. phone charging cable. It seem to work just fine. Last 5 pics new microscope. (The first microscope I received; The post is too small to fit into the base and the threads don't come close to catching. I tried to show this in some pictures. The base was scratched and item was missing the instruction pamphlet. I did plug it in and tried it out holding the microscope over a coin. The magnified image of the coin was really neat and I can't wait to get my replacement microscope.) ... show more

  • Decent product but poor assembly and shipping QC
I bought this product to aid in clock repair. The unit came and the battery would not charge and the side lights would not come on. The imaging was pretty good. Looking at base one could see the chips on the circuit board were sheared off. I returned it and the new unit would charge but the flex on the unit was broken off at the base. I tried to return it again but Amazon doesn’t allow this. It seems the factory shipping and handling plus a lack of quality control there is allowing broken units to ship. I tried a third time and got a complete working and undamaged unit. Apparently the company has implemented some handling improvements as there is now some protective tape over the resistors see image. ... show more

  • Solid solution for coins and more
This microscope is primarily used for coins, and here it excels allowing zoom to easily read dates and mint marks as well as details to grade the coin. Lights are bright when needed, but usually the ambient light is fine. I've also purchased slides of insects for my grand kids to look at. They are age 4 and 9 and were using this microscope by themselves after a quick run through by me. I have not needed to save off pictures yet but feel confident that the extra features are also easy to use. For under $100 this is a very capable device and I hope to get many years of use out of it. Shipping was fast and the vendor followed up shortly after I received it, asking if I had questions. ... show more

  • Best value
I've bought literally a handful of these from different brands and at different price points. Many of the sub $200 ones are not good and are all the same practically. This one here i got for $66 on sale and for that price it performs perfectly fine. Its cheaper quality and small screen but it works fine. I bought a desk arm and adapters and use it that way. (The adapters to use is a 5/8 female to 1/4 male, as well as a 1/4 female to 1/4 female) ... show more

  • Don't Throw Out the User Manual
The microscope works as advertised. Its main advantage is the included screen, and its ability to operate without attachment to a computer. I wanted this to assist soldering on a circuit board, and mounting on a wood lathe to inspect cuts. I am sure it will work for both applications. At this price point it will undoubtedly replace all optical student microscopes and hobby scopes. But, it is not perfect, and I hope that the pathologist looking at a biopsy is using something better. It is not binocular. The light is adjustable, but it is reflective. That is fine for coins, stamps, circuit boards, woodwork and the like, but biologic specimens would benefit having a light under the slide. The aperture seems to be fixed at f4.5, which means that depth of field is limited. You can easily change the amount of magnification by raising or lowering the assembly, and refocussing. The boom lights are a nice addition to add side lighting, but the boom needs considerable adjustment to point correctly. Biggest problem is the interface. Don't lose the user manual. You will need to format the microSD card that you use, in the microscope. Bottom line, at this price point it is really remarkable. BTW, there are many "brands" of Chinese digital microscopes, but they all seem to come from the same factory. ... show more
