  • Great Bang for the Buck
Color: Black
The F-250 had a Soundstream VR-651B installed in it 6 years ago. That radio worked well and was fine. Then, one day, it just stopped producing sound. Checked all the wiring and fuses and everything was fine- it just wouldn't produce audio. We believe something messed up internally as this would mute the music when the backup camera was engaged. Think it did this, and never undid it. Looked for alternative replacements, and really did not want to spend $$$$$ again, so was ignoring Crutchfield. Ran across this one here, and thoroughly looked it over. For $67.05 and the decent reviews, it was too tempting. Ordered it. We are incredibly HAPPY with this unit. IT sounds WAY better than the unit it replaced. Everything functions well. Already had the wiring harness with the other radio, so just had to solder this one in. Took all of 10 minutes. The existing backup camera connected fine and works well. Moved over the USB thumb drive with all the music, and that worked perfect. The only complaint we have, is the included remote. It is great to have this, but when it was mounted on the steering wheel, it would not work. Not sure if this is just because of the size of the truck or what, so we needed to find another spot for it. As seen in the included photo, it works great there. It just seems that it really needs to be pointed at the radio to function properly. Ok. For less than $70, we are extremely pleased. Hopefully this will last for a long time. We would so buy this again in a second. It is incredible quality for the money. It was less than half the price of the Soundstream it replaced and is a clearly superior unit. BUY IT, you won't regret it. ... show more

  • Amazing deal for a BUDGET head unit.
Color: Black
You can buy a similar name brand head unit at the big box electronics store for 400 bucks or more, or you can pay sub 100 for this one. Which one you choose depends on your needs/budget. For me, I was replacing a stock radio/cd player in a 2007 truck. It made no sense for me to spend 400 PLUS installation for an almost 20 year old vehicle. WORD OF CAUTION- Before you buy any head unit from anywhere, do your research on your vehicle to find out what you need for installation. In my case, I was going to do the install myself, after all, I did a half dozen or so in my youth. Vehicle wiring has changed a bunch over the last 20 years so first off, find out how much a wiring harness will cost to convert your system to the new unit. The wiring harness needed for my vehicle was almost 100 bucks. Also it was not as simple as splicing the wires together to save money, the speaker ohms were different and there were a ton of assorted wires running through the radio that I could not decipher even with a schematic. I ended up paying an installer another 179 to put it in. Still, my cost was a lot lower than had I purchased the 400 system from the store, and you still have to purchase the wiring harness and conversion kit even if you get a free install. So, the cons of this system from my perspective...I wanted to use this for navigation but I did not read the fine print on the listing for which versions of android it supports, mine is 11 and I own a Google Pixel, which does NOT support Mirror Link, therefore, I can not use navigation. So while I don't hold the seller accountable for my oversight, I strongly recommend that you understand what Mirror Link before you purchase this unit, especially if you want navigation on your screen. Android Auto and Mirror Link are 2 different things so know what you are buying! Upon starting up, you get a Welcome screen and it takes a few seconds to begin playing music. It takes a second or 2 longer than my new VW screen so not too bad. I have read reviews on other units of this price range and it appears that it may only perform one function at a time, kind of like your TV when you switch inputs, the show you are watching disappears and it pulls up the new input. So if I am listening to music from my usb card and I press the AV input, the music stops. When I loaded my phone contacts, music stopped for 20 seconds while my contacts loaded. Truly not a big deal for me, but fair warning in case it would be for you. The steering wheel mounted controller is convenient, however, the connector attaching it to the wheel is velcro fabric so when you press a button the controller moves easily...so you have to support the back of the controller when pressing buttons, and if you apply too much force, the controller will pop out of the housing, It would be nice if it had a locking feature as I have popped it out of the housing and onto the floor a few times. Maybe I can rig it so it is more sturdy as I truly like it. It also does not work well unless it is closest to the radio. When I had my wheel cut far to the left I could not change the music until the wheel rotated back close to the radio. The biggest con for me is there is no folder option to scroll to the song you want to listen to. You can only go forward or back one song at a time. (You can shuffle also). I miss being able to pull up my library, but if you have a smartphone and connect via bluetooth, you can simply tell Hey Google or Hey Siri to play what you want to hear. Pros- UI is intuitive. I have not had to read the directions to do everything I have wanted to do so far. Bluetooth connected easily and seems to function well. Phone works well through bluetooth, I have taken a couple of calls and it works as well as my VW system. I assume there is a built in mic on the unit as callers hear me well. I loaded my contacts in about 20 seconds. I played music through bluetooth and it worked great. With my smartphone, I just tell it what I want to hear and it plays it. Also was able to voice command my phone to make phone calls so the unit is truly as hands free and my new car. You can play videos on the screen provided you have them saved to a USB, (and I believe it also has a TF slot). The USB works well and its pretty fast starting up. The display is good, not as sharp as my cellphone but plenty good for a dash unit. Color is good and it is plenty bright. The attached pictures were taken at noon so it was bright outside, and I still can adjust the brightness up if needed. The bezel color can be changed to 8 different colors, one being a multi function that scrolls through 7 of the colors every few seconds. There are 8 wallpapers, but they are all really subtle and on a dark background so I dont even notice them as the interface is your focal point. I dont see an option to add your own wallpaper but no biggie. There is a basic EQ and also 6 or so presets for Rock, Jazz, etc. The steering wheel controller is really convenient. It has a camera and a handheld remote but I have not used either either of these. It switches from bluetooth to USB to radio very quickly, no lag time. My favorite thing about this unit is the sound. I was shocked at how much better my music sounds. I had previously been listening to music via a 3.5 cable from my phone and the difference in sound with the new unit is astounding. My 14 year old speakers sound brand new. All in all, I am extremely happy with this head unit. In summary, if your phone allows Mirror Link, and you dont mind a few quirks, this is a solid buy for the money. As long as you are not expecting it to perform like a 800 dollar Kenwood, this could be the one for you. Just to avoid any disappointment, if you want the traditional Android Auto experience, spend a little more and get it, otherwise, this is an incredible upgrade from my stock unit! ... show more

  • Easy Install with easy to follow instructions, Great Sound Quality
Color: Black
Overall Quality I installed this on a 2016 Hyundai Accent with little to no problems. Backup camera quality is adequate considering the price and can be easily replaced if needed. Touchscreen is very responsive and bright. Audio quality significantly improved over the stock radio that I had, it really drives audio now. I especially like the loud option in the settings, makes it sound like I have subs when I don't :-), really drives the base. Screen mirroring works very well, requires the installation of a Hi-Link app. Bluetooth is quick and easy to connect with clear, crisp sound. AUX works well. Can't speak to longevity/ robustness as I've only had this for about a week, will follow up in the next few months. Installation The installation instructions are pretty straightforward and easy to follow. I did spend quite a bit of time researching the installation before deciding on this product though. Installed using the Metra 70-7304 Wiring Harness and Metra 99-7347B conversion kit. Instructions on those were also easy to follow as well. If installing yourself and you're not a professional, I would recommend getting some heat shrink butt connectors in addition to electrical tape. The most difficult part of this install was getting the backup camera to work. Before proceeding, ensure the negative battery connection is disconnected. Follow these steps if you are having issues. 1. In the back of the dash, connect the red power cable attached to the yellow video RCA to the pink reverse cable provided. 2. After wiring through the cabin into the back of the auto, splice a connection from the reverse light connections, mine were only red and black which is what I needed. 3. IMPORTANT. Connect both the red/ black RCA power cable and the red cable attached to the other end of the yellow video RCA. Red to Red and Black to Black. You may need to extend the connections a bit (use 18 gauge wire). This step is noted because some tutorials have this step as optional. For me, it was required.
