Top Amazon Reviews

  • Better then the '65
Style: 68 Custom Princeton Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
Shame to see so many negative reviews about the '68 Princeton Reverb. I can't blame anyone who purchased this amp and had problems (bad reverb, rattling, buzzing, etc), but mine has no issues at all. No rattling, no buzzing, everything works great and the build quality is top notch. Most importantly, I think this amp sounds incredible. Yes, it is darker than the '65 Reissue (I own both), but it is also much fuller sounding with more low end and more mids. Going back and forth, the '65 sounds a little thin and "ice picky" after playing the '68. In terms of effects, I actually prefer the reverb on the '68, tremelo sounds about the same on both. I have made hundreds of purchases on Amazon over the years, but this is my first review. I felt compelled to write it because I just can't believe the relative low rating this amp has. I don't doubt the sincerity of other reviewers or the problems they had, but that has not been my experience. The '68 sounded amazing right out of the box and I have had zero issues. Highly, highly recommended. PS - My '65 PR Reissue is going up on Reverb tomorrow. ... show more

  • Good tone, bad hiss
Style: 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
I really wanted to like this amp and the first day I did. On Day 2 I noticed that beneath the lovely Fender tone, was a Mesa-like hiss that couldn't be ignored.

  • NO HUM or tremolo probs. Love it
Style: 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
Wonderful spanky clean Fender tone. U will need a drive pedal if you want distortion at a reasonable volume. Plenty loud for any medium or small club. NO HUM AT ALL. There was about a 10 minute period where the dreaded white noise began, but I wiggled the tubes and it went away. If you get it on your amp I think the best bet from my research online is to just replace the cheapo tubes they have in there. I’d start with the preamp tubes, the little ones. Or just wiggle them around and pull them in and out to c if that helps. Be careful to unplug the amp first and be gentle. I have a friend who has a beautiful old fender, I think a 74. This one sounds every bit as good. I did change the speaker, the one it comes with is quite bright, good for more modern sounds but it was too much for my old ears. I put in a wonderful sounding speaker made by Weber. It has a softer top end that is quite a bit more pleasing to my ears and plenty articulate. Cons Reverb too much at small amounts on the dail. ... show more

  • Got 2 bad ones in a row
Style: 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
Love the design features of this new Fender Amp. Sadly, had to return two of them, both with similar, serious problems. Did some online research and discovered that there are serious issues with this new model. Many people are having to do multiple returns to finally get one that works. This is clearly a quality control / manufacturing problem with Fender and not any fault of Amazon's or other retailers. So, I ended up having to order a different model (one with a good dependability record) and will wait a year or so to see if Fender gets it's act together before trying one of these again. Too bad because I really wanted one. ... show more

  • 68 Custom Vibro Champ
Style: 68 Custom Vibro Champ Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
So yes...Amazon has the wrong Amp shown in the picture. They should fix it, but I knew what I was ordering. I actually also have the Amp pictured...the 68 Custom Pro Reverb...another fantastic amp! As for the review of the 68 Vibro Champ....its absolutely amazing for what it is. All the Fender Cleans and crunch/drive you want "At reasonable" volumes...but it is still loud IF you push it. Some reviews complain about he reverb, I actually like it. I do have pretty much every 65 RI Fender amp with real spring reverb so again, I knew that it was a digital hall reverb going into this purchase. Some reviews also complain about the speaker....again it sound good to me...I don't see myself replacing it anytime soon. It is really a smaller brother to the Princeton, which is personally one of my favorite amps that I own. Do you really need one of these if you have any of the 65 RI's? No not really, (reasonable volumes is the win) but I can tell you its a keeper for me and will be played and enjoyed. Good job on this one Fender. I will be using this little guy alot since it sounds so good and wont disturb the household too much :) ... show more

  • I purchased this amplifier its pretty loud, it looks great
Style: 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
I purchased this amplifier its pretty loud, it looks great, i do like the vintage channel better, as for fender type clean amps this does not really have the headroom most fenders are known for .so at 5 or so you get some classic style gain (not a bad thing) if thats what you want i had to return it as i needed a bit more volume with the band then this could provide but it was nice sounding great for a quite combo or best for recording or if you run it cranked for an american gain type sound. do not count on this to be a metal amplifier in any way. i have had a few fenders over the years i have an older vibrolux and that has a lot more headroom at 40 watts and i prefer the tremolo on the vibrolux, the verb on this amp was nice but nothing spectacular and the trem was a little strange (not necessarily bad) just had to work to get good speed vs intensity. i give it a 4 i did not have it long so i don't know about reliability, the celestian driver does help the early gain sound, its really light.too but not for me since i have other amps. ... show more

  • Wonderful Amp.
Style: 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb Configuration: Amp Only
This is a wonderful amp. I was planning on getting a Marshall 50w head with a 2x12 combo, but I happened to plug into this amp at a guitar store and it changed my mind. This amp has a great beefy tone, yet still does wonderful when playing delicate and clean. It gets VERY loud, as loud as you'll ever need. The two independent channel are great, too. The left side channel has a "Bassman" sound and the right side inputs are the main 68 Deluxe Reverb sound. I like the fact they they offered a new feature but kept it basic. If there had been too many tweaks, I wouldn't have gone for it. I did A LOT of research before I bought this amp. I noticed people reporting issues with noise coming from the amp and reverb "noise" (or popping) issues. I can tell you that MY amp has no issues whatsoever. It's a great amp, I'll never part with it. If you are on the fence and can afford it, pull the trigger. ... show more
