  • Returned
Purchased the vise but returned it because the bolts that anchor it were too short for my existing workbench. I could’ve just bought longer bolts, but I opted to return it. Didn’t use the device so I can neither give a positive or negative review.

  • Good Quality At A Good Price, More Vise Than Most DIY'ers Need, Small Anvil Area
This is likely all the vise a home mechanic or DIY'er will ever need. A machine shop will want something bigger and more refined, but for a small shop or home use it's hard to imagine a vise task beyond this 6" vise's capability. Comparing this vise to other DIY / mid-quality vises at my local big box home improvement store this is comparable in quality, but at a better price. This is made to a price point though, so don't expect extremely tight tolerances and careful machining, but everything looks good, moves smoothly and is 100% functional. I do want to note that unlike most vises in the next level price category this vise is finished with a "crinkle paint", which I assume allows less finish work on the exterior parts of the vise. This looks good and protects the metal from corrosion, but gives a less refined look to the vise than a standard paint or powder coat finish. Also, I do want to note that the anvil area of this relatively large vise is surprisingly small. Unlike most vises where the anvil is machined flat after the vise is painted, on this vise the anvil comes painted. I don't know if the anvil was machined flat after casting or n ot, since it's painted, but I do know that the paint on the top of the anvil won't last long once metal bits start to get hammered on the anvil. I really wish the anvil area had been machined after painting, but it's a small quibble about an otherwise quality vise at a good price. ... show more

  • Not what I'd expect for something with included shipping
A bench vice is one of those things that I always eye longingly, it's just that there are other tools that I know I would use more frequently. I have a good array of clamps that I can rig something up with when needed, but it's such a classic dad tool. I have my dad's bench grinder which is another tool that's nice to have, but as primarily a worker of wood not at the top of my must have items. I should have used it the other day, but quite frankly, I didn't think of it until I was almost done. Well, this vice is a serious piece of gear. Heavy as it should be. It is a 100% genuine benchtop vice, no surprises no cost saving measures, there may be heavier duty ones in the 6" benchtop class, but this is all the vice I forsee needing as of now and into the future. Not that it's a competition but since I waited so long this unit is 50% more vice than the one my dad used. I don't know why I didn't end up with his, I'm the only son who works with his hands, mom probably tossed it, she's so excited to have the largest, emptiest basement I've ever seen, there are always cut-offs even in an unfinished house's basement before it's finished, hers is empty, we could play rollerblade hockey even if it's not a rectangle, a rink doesn't have lolly columns, artificial defensemen deal with it. It's nice to see something that I'm certain isn't going to break in my lifetime from an online store. ... show more

  • Just the Perfect Size
REVIEW: 6-Inch Bench Vise Heavy duty Vice for Workbench, Utility Combination Pipe Table Vise Forged Steel Construction and Swivel Base (6") This vice fits between my larger 8-inch vice and my 4.5-inch vice. There are times when I feel the 4 1/2 inch vice is just a little too small and too light for the job at hand. Likewise, either the 8-inch vice is too big, or I simply don't want to pull it out and it's not bolted down to my bench. It's connected to a thick slab of wood that fits into drilled spaces on my bench. It's heavy and I would rather not pick it up all the time. It's nice that this 6-inch vice came with the hardware to be able to bolt it to the bench. If I start using this one routinely, over the other two, then I will bolt it down. It has good rotation, as others do, but this rotates very smoothly and the handles do too. Too many times, in a vice, the handles turn roughly, and in some cases, even get stuck. I'm hoping all works out and I can bolt this to my bench permanently. ... show more

  • nice utility vice for any home shop
This is a nice sized home shop vice. This is not the big beast professional vices you will find in a commercial shop and it isnt priced like that either. Some of the pros: - smaller size works in home shops - pipe clamp (under the face of the vice) - rotates around mounting bracket - 'hammered finish looks nice' - pretty strong grip Some of the cons: - smaller size - not really meant for use on wood but could be adapted - not built for really using it to hammer too hard on - finish on some of the parts could be better I have several workbench vices. I ordered this one for a bench in our barn. I do not plan on this being my primary vice, not because its a bad vice, but because I have anvil like vices I use when I really need to pound on a part. This vice will take some impacts, but I dont think I would hit a part on this vice with a 5-lb sledge. That takes an entirely different class of vice that costs way way more money. This is meant to hold that part I need to hold while I do something with less need for blunt force. ... show more
