I purchased to do some light aluminum machining, vise heavy and sturdy, pulled apart and cleaned and worked surfaces flat. Drive screws very sloppy, lower one bent, so operation not true, I’m thinking how I’m going to deal with that.     • Like another review I read NOT THE BEST BUT NOT THE WORST
After receiving the vise, I checked it out and found operation was a little rough. So I took it apart and smoothed up the rough surfaces, some of the machining could have been better. One surface wasn't milled flat, it had a 1/6" ridge on it. After cleaning and fixing some of problems I put it back together expecting it to work better. It was better but the shims they used are worthless, would not stay in place. Tin piece of metal 1/16"x1/2"x5" , I replaced it with a piece 1/8"x1/2"x7 1/2". This stuck out at both ends, which I bent over at 90 degree angle to hold it in place. Once you put it in the slot where the original shims were and slide the x -y vise on it can't go anywhere. Put a little grease on and adjust the shim adjustment screws to take out loose play, your done. Works like new, OH IT WAS NEW , shouldn't have to do this, but I took a chance, because I thought the vise was built sturdy. Happy with it now, works good. Could have spent more money, but no guarantee you still won't have to work on it. ... show more

    • Not accurately machined
First thing you must do is completely disassemble vise and mill or at very least file all mated surfaces. Every surface is covered with industrial paint. If you want and need for accuracy, you must mill it. Very poor tolerances. Other than that, it is sturdy

Usable but definitely not for precision, whatever item is in the vise jaws will wobble when operating the cranks due to loose goosey tolerances on the slide screws

Too much free play/ backlash in gearing. Jumps ahead when feeding. Should have invested in a better unit.
