This is a well designed and built DSMB, my only complaint being that the spool is a little small. Would it really kill you to make it a teeny bit larger so it fits on my big fat finger easily?

This is basically the same safety sausage that everyone carries. It works as you’d expect, and seems to be durable as any other. The spool and line are pretty basic, as is the whistle, but it comes as a full kit, so you have al your safety gear in one set.

The SMB seems to be durable. The reflective strip is good. The metal D-rings on top and bottom are nice. The inflation valve functions, but it isn’t a quality one-way valve. You must push it in to inflate orally or with LP line, or deflate. The HPV works as it should. It comes with a heavy bungee cord to wrap the SMB along with extra “Velcro” straps for storage. The bottom is “open” so you can inflate with a regulator. The bottom has a rubber-y inner seal so it holds air when you send it up. The reel and cord are garbage. 100% trash. The reel is cheap plastic which will crack and break with the slightest twisting or pressure by a double-ender. The cord is super-cheap, flat wound, poly cord, and not very strong. The cord comes with a pre-made loop that doesn’t even fit over the reel, so you have to cut it off and make a bigger loop before it’s workable. Count on losing 18-24 inches off the spool before you ever get wet. Had I not already cut the cord to make a proper sized loop I would have returned this. I’ll just replace the reel and cord with a quality diving reel and keep the SMB. My advice - keep looking for a better quality SMB and reel.
