  • Fun but More Complicated Robotics Kit from Acebott
This set is the combination of two sets. It comes with the robotic vehicle and the arm is sort of an add on set. I have a few sets from Acebott, and this is one of the more complicated ones I have tried. I would say the 12 year and up age suggestion is accurate in this case. The instructions for this can be downloaded from their website similar to their other sets. The instructions are for the most part easy to follow with a few minor issues that are not as clear as they should be. My kids are younger so this set definitely required adult support. I like that it gives blocky as a coding option so my 7 year old could help with the coding. You can also use python or arduino (C++). The Acebott platform will convert your blocky to the other languages, which is a nice learning tool. The build will take a few hours to complete and maybe more if you let your kids help. The kit offers a few methods for controlling the bot, which each present their own challenges. The app control is fairly easy and the code is provided for setup. You are somewhat limited on the functionality but it will get you up and running more quickly for testing your build. Once you confirm it is working as intended then I suggest trying the manual programming route to customize your controls. This is slower but you learn more. Overall this is a good set for someone that has had a basic experience with robotics and wants to add some complexity to their skill set. ... show more

  • Fun build for a teenager or adult
I ordered this car kit from Acebott for my 15-year-old who has a little experience with the Arduino platform. The kit includes everything you need build it except batteries. The kit requires two button top 18650 lithium batteries. My son was able to work his way through the project on his own but had several issues along the way. Some parts worked themselves loose periodically, so he just needed to keep retightening them. The ultrasonic sensor included was bad. He spent way too much time having to troubleshoot his issues before we just swapped it out for another one we had on hand then it worked fine. Acebott has excellent customer service, so I know we could have gotten a replacement quickly, but I had enough of these already. The instructions were fairly good but not great. A beginner may struggle with parts. The block-style coding method is great for beginners using Acebott's AceCode software. There are ino files for more experienced users who want to work in the Arduino IDE. Overall, this is a fun build for a teenager or adult. ... show more

  • Nice car kit
I didn't time it, but assembly took less than 2 hours even though I had to back up a few steps a couple times (for example after I put the wheels on without paying attention to orientation). I am very mechanically inclined and can handle small parts, so your mileage may vary. The one problem I had was with the ultrasonic sensor. The instructions show the sensor and pinout, but tells you to be careful to wire correctly for whichever sensor is included in your kit, which may be different from the one shown. Well, they tell you this after telling you to mount the sensor so you cannot read the pin labels. Since the sensor was Acebott branded, I figured the pinout would match the instructions. Nope. Sensor didn't work, I had to take it apart to see that I had indeed connected it wrong. It still doesn't work after wiring it correctly, so I purchased a new ultrasonic sensor and now it works fine, so apparently I fried the sensor by wiring it wrong. My advice: BEFORE assembly of the ultrasonic sensor, take a picture of the pinout labels or write them on the back side of the board so you know which pin is which, and if you don't do this, don't be lazy like me, take the sensor off the mount to check the pinout. I'm not taking a star off for this, though I am tempted, because the issue was caused by my failure to follow the directions. Also, the batteries: Batteries are not included, it requires two 18650s and a coin cell for the remote. I have lots of 18650s around, but they are almost all flat top and I couldn't get any of them to work until I finally found a pair of button top 18650s. Those are working great. So if you are buying batteries for this, try to get button top 18650s. ... show more

  • Nothing Automated Works
Too many Games fail to do remotely as intended. The Wrist will never function as directions show, needs modification. The Line Tracking just moves car and then it takes off in many crazy directions, none are near Line. Will not pick up blocks as Game shows. Arms just do erratic motion. Nothing Automated works but All controls function using App. ... show more
