  • Well Built! Works Well! HIGHLY recommend!
Size: 52MM
HIGHLY recommend! There, I said it again. I purchased a 43mm-52mm Metal Step Up Ring to attach this lens to an old Canon VIXIA R80 for my wide-angle shots. After reading complaints on all of the built-for-VIXIA (43mm) wide-angle lenses showing the (circular) outer rim, I wanted to make sure and buy a larger lens. This works perfectly! I've attached stills from two videos: one with, and one without this lens. And sorry about my filthy picture window; it's still too cold to step out and wash it! LOL The first thing to note: It's heavy. And I mean that in a GOOD way! It's absolutely solid! Metal housing, quality glass on both the macro and wide-angle lenses, and a secure fit where they are threaded to each other, to the step-up ring, and to the camera. The second thing: It comes with little extras that I had not been expecting: A rubber lens cover that press-fits securely to the front of the lens, and a vegan-leather (PU) carry bag, both of which I will be using even though I didn't know I needed them. The front of this lens is a good 85mm across, which would be the main reason why this baby is so heavy! The third thing: It is definitely fish-eyed. I left in part of the window frame in the wide shot (top right), so you could see the amount of curvature. Remember that I'm shooting through a sized-up 43mm fitting, so this is really just the center of the 52mm Altura lens. And once again, I HIGHLY recommend! ... show more

  • Excellent value and functionality
Size: 55MM
Do you find yourself wanting to capture wider, fuller landscapes or take perfect shots for social media posts at not quite the right size? There’s no need to look any further at expensive wide angle lenses to better your casual shots; this filter thread mounted lens has you covered. It’s quick to mount/dismount, maintains original sharpness/definition, and has compatibility across brands and generations. You can mount this on a filter from your collection or throw a new 82 on the front of it if you’d like to expand your gear supply. This piece has worked wonders going all the way from a mirrorless Sony A7III down to an old 35mm Canon AE-1. There’s no noticeable increase in any autofocus noise level, and film shots especially love this fun add-on by capturing more details in each exposure. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend if they needed an easy, economical solution to the problem of expensive lenses. Here’s an example of a high exposure B&W shot taken with the lens added to a 50mm Sony E-Mount; my favorite and best model was staying classy with her feathered ears being prettier than many people’s own hair. ... show more

  • Great Alternative with a Great Price
Size: 52MM
I was searching the market for a wide angle lens. I want to do more vlogging so it’s a must with the Nikon D5100. I’m currently using the standard VR 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G. All of the lenses I found were way out of my price range. Until i saw this product. The Alturo Photo .43X WIDE ANGLE HD LENS ATTACHMENT. The delivery was pretty fast two days with my Prime account. The product is made of metal and the build is very nice. It’s very sturdy and durable. It do any feel cheap. The look of it does not match with its price. I paid 24.99 for this product and it looks more expensive than that. I’d say at least $75 The quality of the wide angle is perfect for vlogging. It does add a bit of weight to the camera as a whole when holding the unit with one hand. However a two handed photo shot should be fine. You might need a strap for this. The BONUS detachable SUPER MACRO lens was an awesome surprise. I didn’t know i needed a macro lens until i used it and saw the detail in the photos. Great addition. So that’s two lenses for $25 bucks. When i was looking to pay over $200 for one. Pretty great deal in my opinion. The only reason i did not give it 5 stars is because of the weight. And also the fact that you can’t just attach the Wide Angle lens to your lens, you have to have the Super Macro attached. But u don’t need the Wide Angle to use the Super Macro. Not sure how u would accomplish this: lessen the weight and make them both independent units. Overall, i would say get it. For $25 bucks it’s a steal. Nothing to lose with this purchase. I will upload more photos once i have them done. Here are a few of the lens attached to the camera and on their own. Good product. Great Price. Great Quality. ... show more

  • Worth the price
Size: 58MM
I’ve only played around with this, haven’t had a chance to really go out and take a bunch of pics with it, so please excuse the random pictures of bathtubs, house plants, ect. Seems to work really well and be well made for how inexpensive it was. Obviously not high end quality... and you do lose focus around the edges but I’m okay with that. Any pics I’d be taking with these would be of one or two objects at most so the blurred edges could be background, not planning on doing while family portraits with it. The wide angle gives quite a bit or extra space to the edges, able to capture more in a photo than without. Photos I’m uploading are of without either lens, with the wide angle lens, and with the marco for a comparison of all. Only issue I have is that there was a little nick in the thread of one side that I think is the cause of this rather loud sound when unscrewing the lens. I’ll try and upload the video. However aside from the annoying sound, it doesn’t seem to effect it from attaching properly. The box was also a little dented when it arrived and wasn’t sealed so it made me feel like it might have been a return or something... but I couldn’t see any issues other than the one nick I previously mentioned. ... show more

  • Disabled autofocus on Canon Rebel XS
Size: 58MM
Although "Rufus" and product specifications said this lens would not disable autofocus, it did on my 2011 Canon Rebel XS. Autofocus would not work and shutter would not fire. Manual focus remained operational, and shutter fired, but I'm an amateur with poor eyesight who relies on AF. It's possible there's an element of operator error here -- would not be the first time -- but I was most interested in the macro anyway, not the wide angle, and was not up for a lot of troubleshooting on either. I have an accessory Canon zoom lens with which AF functions seamlessly, but it attaches directly to the camera body; that may be the difference. All this said, the lens appears to be of good quality; it just won't work easily with my camera. P.S. Altura customer service was in touch with me after this review was posted, apologizing for any inconvenience and offering a full refund. (I'd already returned the lens through Amazon.) I thought that spoke well of them. ... show more

  • Not 0.43x, closer to 0.7x
Size: 58MM
Purchased this item believing it would reduce effective focal length by .43x, turning a 50mm lens into something like 21.5mm (nominal focal lengths are often not precise and change with focus breathing so there really isn't enough precision there to justify the use of decimals, but I digress) Upon using it I noticed it has considerably less effect than a .42x fisheye adapter acquired some time in the early 2000's, so I did a few tests. Comparing the field of view of a 50mm lens equipped with this adapter to a 28mm lens, I found the 28mm lens was actually wider. That should not be so! I then compared 50mm + adapter setup to a 35mm lens, and the field of view just about perfectly matched. To convert 50mm to 35mm you need a .7x adapter, which is what this falsely advertised product is. Multiplying by .7 can also be approximated by dividing by 1.43, which is where I think they might've screwed up and gotten the 0.43 from-- they could have accidentally subtracted 1 from 1.43 instead of dividing 1 by 1.43 to convert the divisor to a multiplication factor. Or they could be lying outright and guessing nobody would catch that big an error, but this is the difference between being *barely* wide angle at 35mm and ultrawide at around 22mm and has a *huge* impact on the appearance of photos and video. All this said, the quality of this product seems fairly decent. It threads in smoothly, is built of solid metal, and has very little chromatic aberration. I even tested it on a telephoto zoom lens for fun, just to see if I could detect any significant chromatic problems that would be hard to spot on a normal length lens, but none could be seen before the image became too soft to be usable-- and in spite of claims people make about products like this being "zoom through" for camcorder use, it's not advisable to use anything like this for anything on either side of a "normal" focal length. Too wide and you'll see the edges creep into the frame (about 35mm full frame equivalent is where you can see black spots in the corners, and it gets worse from there) and any longer than 50mm equivalent you start to defeat the purpose of a wide angle adapter. (So any of the reviews mentioning black corners are already using a wider angle than can be achieved by putting this on a normal focal length lens-- not its intended use, and not a flaw with the product.) However, in spite of being actually fairly usable, I cannot recommend purchasing any product that misrepresents itself. Anything of this nature that advertises itself as "HD," "digital," or "professional," tries to mimic the appearance of Canon or Nikon optics by including a red or gold colored ring, or mentions autofocus is throwing up some HUGE red flags that it's intentionally deceptive. I had hoped it'd still work for my purposes, but it definitely will not. ... show more

Size: 58MM
This lens is definitely worth the low price! I paired it with a 28-58mm EF lens on my Canon Rebel xsi. Works extremely well in small spaces! This would definitely be a useful tool to anyone looking to show off an enclosed space (like real estate photography) or shooting landscapes. When fully zoomed out you will have a strong dark halo, though zooming in or cropping it out is an easy solution. I was able to fit my camera, lenses and all into a 14x12in box and captured most of the other side of the box (baby chick photos attached to review--unedited and rotated/cropped photo). Auto focus has no issues focusing through the extra glass. I haven't gotten a chance to try some decent landscape photos with it yet however it was able to capture a nighttime landscape and the stars above. It does tend to glare light very brightly. I attempted some long exposure shots with it which worked fairly well, however it was glaring a bit too much for my taste: notice the moon in the attached photo is extremely bright, (photo was taken from an idling car with an exposure time of 3 seconds so it is a tad bit blurry, not the lens's fault) though you can see how much of the landscape fit into the frame. I'm sure adding a decent filter will reduce the glare just fine if it bothers you. Overall very happy with it! Clean, sharp image, does not feel like it will fall off of my lens while shooting, can't wait to try using it more! ... show more
