  • Versatile hand pump
I am well acquainted with the heavier duty version of this style of pump known as a rotary vane pump, having seen them used on the farm for decades, primarily as hand cranked fuel pumps. A central rotor is connected to a crank handle with a plurality of radially slidable vanes rotating within a variable volume cavity. (If you are interested in a more in-depth explanation, type “rotary vane pump” into your favorite search engine.) Vane pumps are best suited for low viscosity, low pressure applications, and are generally recognized for their dry-priming ability, good suction, and simple maintenance. This particular version is made almost entirely of plastic. I expected the pump body to be plastic, but it was a bit of a surprise that the crank is also plastic, though they are making some very strong plastics now. The hole in the crank was substantially oversize compared to the pump shaft diameter, leaving it quite wobbly, especially since the cross bore securing hole in the pump shaft was very, very shallow. Other than that, the pump seems fairly well constructed. The outlet pipe has very fine threads which thread securely into the pump outlet. The outlet tube has a U-shaped with a union in the middle section of the U the outlet is a barb type fitting of unknown size. I will have to find some sort of tubing that fits, but to me this is preferable to having to match some obscure thread size with an expensive and difficult to source adapter. The bung adapter on the inlet tube is also plastic, and is a standard 2-inch size. It has an interesting tightening fitting that prevents the thumb screw from directly contacting the plastic pipe, which is nice, but it does take a disturbing amount of pressure to hold it securely. I like that the suction pipe is in three threaded pieces which can be assembled and disassembled without tools. This multi-piece arrangement allows the pump to not only be used on a barrel, but also on the ubiquitous 5-gallon bucket, or other containers without a bung fitting. Overall, I like this lightweight pump. I plan to use it on a 55-gallon water barrel with a standard two-inch bung opening, that I transport around to plants that are out of reach of any hoses. Previously, I had used electric 12 V pumps powered from the battery for this task, but this is a far simpler arrangement as 12-volt pumps were always problematic and a bit of a nuisance. With this plastic hand cranked pump, I can just fill the barrel and go- nice and simple. Only time will tell how well it will it hold up, but I am hopeful. ... show more

  • Great for transferring bulk liquids
I picked up this manual rotary drum pump for handling 55-gallon barrels around the shop and it’s been a solid performer. The pump fits standard 2-inch openings on 15 to 55 gallon drums, which is exactly what I needed. Setup is simple—just thread it in and you’re ready to go. No fancy tools required. The rotary handle turns smooth and it moves fluid pretty quick for a hand pump—I’ve been getting close to that 10 GPM claim with lighter stuff like diesel and water. It works well for transferring diesel from storage drums to smaller cans or equipment tanks without any major spills or mess. I’ve also used it for cleaning solutions and detergents when mixing up batches for pressure washing gear, and it handles those without issues too. The build feels tough enough for regular use. The tube is long enough to reach the bottom of a full drum, and the pump body seems well-sealed so you don’t get leaks around the handle. It does take some elbow grease after a while if you’re moving a lot of volume, but that’s expected with a manual pump. I like that it works on a variety of liquids including DEF, which is handy if you’re dealing with modern diesel equipment. One small complaint is the outlet hose could be a bit longer or include a better nozzle option for directing flow precisely, but I just added a short section of hose and it solved that. Overall this pump has saved me a ton of time and frustration compared to pouring or using smaller siphon setups. If you deal with drum quantities of fuel, water, or chemicals on a regular basis, it’s a worthwhile tool to have on hand. No major issues after several uses. ... show more

  • Reliable drum pump for easy fluid transfer
The rotary handle operates smoothly, and it moves a good amount of fluid with each turn without requiring much effort. It fits standard 55 gallon drums securely and feels sturdy enough for regular use. It’s a simple, practical tool that makes moving liquids much easier compared to pouring from a heavy drum. I use this in the backyard with my rain barrels and works really well. ... show more

  • An Off-Grid Watering Solution
I live in a rural area of the country where most people, including myself, use well water. These well pumps are powered by on-grid electricity, but when the electricity goes out (which often happens) then there’s no way for me to water the animals. Right now, I’m using large barrels to collect rainwater, but without a pump to get the water out, the barrels aren’t going to help me. But when I saw this 55-gallon drum pump, I knew that my problems would be answered. This drum pump is one of the best items that I’ve ever received from the online market. This pump is made of a really thick, durable plastic (see photo). This pump came with everything that I needed, including instructions (see photo) and even included some extras. For example, a fitting for a bung hole was included if I ever collect rainwater in a wooden cask (see photo). And pipe tape was included, preventing leakage. With the plastic being so tough and thick, this pump will withstand the outdoors weather. This pump was **super** easy to put together, and it is even easier to use (see video). Needless to say, this pump is going to save me (and especially my animals!) the next time the electricity ceases. This is a high-quality item and given how useful it is, it is worth every single penny. If you’re living rurally—or even if you’re an urban dweller who’s looking to become less dependent on the grid—this drum pump is going to make a huge difference in your life. Even if you’re just looking for an alternative water source for your garden, this drum pump will make gardening during a drought easy. ... show more

  • Moves Fluid Quickly and Saves Time
This drum pump worked exactly as expected and moved fluid much faster than trying to pour or siphon manually. The pump action is smooth, primes easily, and the flow rate is impressive for a manual unit. Installation on the drum was straightforward and the included hose and fittings fit securely without leaks. The construction feels solid enough for regular use around the shop, farm, or garage. If you transfer fuel, oil, coolant, or other compatible fluids from drums regularly, this pump saves a lot of time and effort compared to cheaper alternatives. ... show more

  • Gets the job done, no complaints
Got this for my shop to pump diesel out of a 55 gal drum. Works like it should. Cranks smooth, flows pretty fast — maybe not quite 10 GPM but close enough. Fit my 2-inch bung no problem. Took maybe 10 minutes to put together. For the price you really can't complain. I've run about 200 gallons through it so far and no leaks. Would buy again. ... show more
