These 300cc oxygen absorbers are perfect for long-term food storage! They keep my food fresh by effectively removing oxygen from sealed containers. I ordered this three and a half months ago and put some things in my freezer. Normally, even though they say you can keep stuff in your freezer for years, after a month things take on a nasty taste. So I usually use up my frozen food in less than a month. But some things are cheaper in bulk and I don't eat those things daily. So I took a chance and ordered these and packed a couple of bulk items in my freezer. Today I took out one measure of each item to make a soup and they tasted as fresh as if I had stowed them yesterday. For reference I am a sous chef and prefer preparing food that is fresh. Frozen is next best if it does not take on the taste of what else is in the freezer. My food in this case did not. So I highly recommend this as an enhancement to freezing food.

There is absolutely NO WAY to tell if these are good or not. There is no oxygen indicator strip included. All other Oxygen absorbers I've purchased had a small pink strip. If it turned purple your packets were no good. If you cut open a bag and take out a few packets to use, some oxygen enters the open bag. This is OK but a tiny leak in the bag or multiple openings/closings will render your absorbers no good. You can tell this by the pink turning purple. Since these arrived with no strips, I have no idea if they will work or not... Also they the same size/weight as my 300cc packets yet they are marked "500cc" The larger the amount of oxygen they can remove the Bigger the packet should be...it takes more iron dust inside to absorb more oxygen.

We do a lot of freeze drying and are always in need of oxygen absorbers. These have served well. We like the fact that they come in packs of 5 that are sealed together as opposed to a whole bunch of them loose. We have been using all 5 per mylar bag so it has worked out well. 500 cc comes as 5 smaller packets which is good and bad, easy to squeeze them in but we just have to remember to take them all out before dumping in the boiling water. Overall these come well packaged and seem to work well for our needs so a recommendation from us.

I can, freeze, dehydrate and freeze dry lots of food. I also buy large sacks of grain and flour and break them into smaller bags for storage and use. For some of that I use a vacuum sealer to remove the air but some products don't like to be crushed and for those I use oxygen absorbers. If you don't have a vacuum sealer you can add an oxygen absorber to a mylar bag and seal it up to get similar results. Oxygen absorbers react with the oxygen in the air to bind it chemically. Air is only 21 per cent oxygen, so even with all the air removed there's only a slight vacuum created. These units are rated to absorb 500cc of oxygen, so they'll handle a large gallon sized bag of product or more, but they're cheap enough to not stress about tossing in an extra one if you're in doubt. Good product at an excellent price.
