Description

We offer raw green unroasted coffee beans for the home roaster who enjoys roasting their own coffee beans at home. Unroasted coffee beans must be roasted prior to use for brewing. Roasting coffee can be a very simple process, or it can be a real work of art created by an experienced artisan. The roasting process has always been a mysterious kind of thing considered to be a closely guarded process of proprietary roasting profiles kept only for the privileged artisans “in the know” with sophisticated commercial roasting equipment. In recent years this has changed substantially with the new wave of home coffee roasters trying their hand at the roasting craft. They have learned many of the tricks of time and temperature modulating their own flavor profiles creating their own works of art in the cup. Coffee is a universal drink loved by many people, some for-taste others seeking the caffeine but when you roast it at home it takes on a whole new appeal. Your coffee quest becomes an intensely personal adventure where you are in control of many aspects of taste results. Roasting is truly a rewarding experience where the more experience you get the better your coffee tastes. Basically, you heat the beans to around 400F to 450F in about 10-15 minutes time period. Once the beans reach your desired doneness or “brown” simply remove them from the heat and cool to room temperature as quickly as possible. After this you can use them to brew coffee! When you buy our beans, you can rest assured that you are getting fresh current crop beans from some of the best coffee plantations in the world. We believe that the best taste comes from premium high-altitude growing regions. We source our beans with great care, ensuring that the farmers are paid fairly for their time and product. When you buy our beans, you are supporting the communities in which beans were grown ensuring equity for all. Invest in our premium high-quality beans, taking your roasting experience to the next level!

  • Quality!
Flavor Name: Caramel Mik Chocolate Hazelnut Cur... Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)
I am a return customer who has multiple purchases of a variety of green beans from Smokin Beans and I have been satisfied every time. Their delivery is fast and it always arrives in excellent condition. I have sampled product from virtually every region and I receive the same high quality beans each time. I believe you can't go wrong purchasing their beans. As for the Costa Rica coffee, it is a great coffee; smooth and low acidity. I will leave the detailed descriptors for the experts...for me, I am very pleased and will be back soon for more. ... show more

  • Pretty good deal.
Flavor Name: creamy milk chocolate toffee Size: 5-Pound Nicaragua
I was really on the fence giving this three or four stars. I could go either way. Here is my rundown. 1) Fast shipping! 2) Great deal. 3) Tastes pretty good. Now for my only complaint. There was a whole lot of "debris" (for lack of better word) in the bag. I'm not sure what it even was. Some of it appeared to be small pieces of string, perhaps burlap? There was also some other thin , almost hair like (but much stiffer than hair) substance in the bag. Every 1/4 cup scoop of beans I pull from the bag has a fair amount of this material in it. Very visible and substantial. I've never seen this before in green beans I've bought from my local place. The good news is that it seems to blow out the top when I roast this in my hot air popper. The bad news is, all of it doesn't always blow out. If you are not using a hot air popper, I'm not sure what is going to happen for you. If it were not for this debris, I'd easily give it a 4-star, and maybe 5 based on cost versus taste. ... show more

  • MMMMMmmmmm. Tasty coffee.
Flavor Name: Caramel Mik Chocolate Hazelnut Cur... Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)
I have been a fan of CostaRican coffee for over 20 years. My relative started roasting beans on his grill, so I thought I would have him test his skills on some of my favorite type of beans. These came just as described and roasted to a medium roast was fantastic. I will be be ordering more for a later batch. ... show more

  • Nicaragua Beans
Flavor Name: creamy milk chocolate toffee Size: 5-Pound Nicaragua
Should send the burlap bag without the coffee package inside. Reason: Strong burlap manufacturing odors that we do not want seeping through the coffee bean package and into the beans. Yes, very strong! Great Coffee when roasted to a medium roast.

  • Good packaging, good product and timely service
Flavor Name: Caramel Mik Chocolate Hazelnut Cur... Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)
No problems. Good packaging, good product and timely service. I just started experimenting with roasting. Using a rotisserie toaster oven which gets to a maximum of 425 degrees F on the 450 setting. 45 to 65 minutes for 250 grams has been my experience so far. These beans took 65 minutes for a dark roast. I like to experiment with the different coffee flavors and this bean is good enough to order again. ... show more

  • Good value for the money
Flavor Name: creamy milk chocolate toffee Size: 5-Pound Nicaragua
Overall, quantity for the money, great. Quality for the money, okay. Doesn't do a light roast well AT ALL. For a full city roast or darker, it's pretty good. I've taken to blending it with my Columbian beans then I really like the results.

  • Not washed well, lots of chaff
Flavor Name: creamy milk chocolate toffee Size: 5-Pound Nicaragua
The batch I got was not clean, even though the description states the beans were washed. During roasting they produced an unusual amount of chaff, about four times what I am used to. I had to wash and dry them, then roast the outside over a grill because the first batch covered my kitchen with chaff ash. I am not sure if its a bad batch. I usually get Nicaraguan beans from another source, they were out, so I tried this company. The burlap bag really does not add any value to the beans or presentation. I was disappointed by the low quality. You can gold plate a dog turd but that does not change what is inside. ... show more
