  • Enjoyed by many different ages.
My four (almost five) year old grandson loves anything “transformative.” Toys that can be configured in different ways are his favorites. This definitely met with his approval. It’s not super intuitive (at least for this four year old it wasn’t) on how to make the changes, but with a little help from his older cousins (11 & 12 yrs) he has thoroughly enjoyed it. And even though the older ones act like it’s way too “babyish” for them to play with, they sure were always quick to stop whatever they were doing to “help” him. But not so quick to give it back after they’d “tested” it out. So far, it seems fairly durable - it’s still in one piece a month later and that says something with this crew. It was also not any more or less expensive than similar items from different manufacturers. The fact that it seems to entertain a wide variety of ages makes it worth the list price. If you or someone you’re gifting it to loves transforming toys, this should be a well received item. ... show more

  • Good intro set for remote/app control Technic, but design and app have some weaknesses
This overall isn't a bad set- but there were a few issues that I encountered with both the build that I did (I just did the first, main robot build) and the power functions & app that knocked it down a bit. Overall, the set has a good selection of parts and can- as it notes- be used to build at least the 5 different designs that are included, all centered around the 2-channel power box. Given the way the motors are set up, it's not surprising that all of the builds are tracked (either track-driven robots ala Johnny 5 or tanks)- a creative builder could probably make the 2 channel setup do more, but that would require being able to reprogram the control setup since to turn it simply does it the way a tank does by either slowing down one side or reversing it to spin. Part-quality-wise, the parts were reasonably good- not up to LEGO tolerances of course, but they generally went together without issue and only a few parts were tighter/looser than ideal. The instructions were pretty good as well- I've seen more detailed instructions, but they were clear and easy enough to follow. The issues that I had with the set were two-fold. First, there were several weak points in the design of the main robot- you can see the main problem in the pictures in that the sword in the right hand will come apart after driving the robot around for a little bit. It would have been pretty easy to have eliminated this particular weakness- but the 'hand' that holds the sword is just as prone to coming off of the robot (it's held on by just one stud, and since the weight of the sword is trying to cantilever the whole thing off that stud, physics wins out eventually). Second- for some reason, the controls were reversed for the forward/backward direction. When you press forward on either the remote or in the app, it goes backward and vice versa. Nothing I could find in either the remote or the app would let me reverse it. And speaking of which- while it looks to have some powerful potential IF you can figure out how to work it, the app that links up with the power module can be more than a bit confusing. If all you're looking to do is to use the basic controls, it's actually not bad- it's definitely nice to be able to vary the speed the robot will move which the remote control doesn't seem to be able to do. But beyond that- there's essentially no usable 'help' or instructions in it, and the programming aspect did not look like it was going to be any fun to try and delve into. As a note- the 'N Series' is the module you need to pick on the first screen of the app. Overall, this isn't a bad set- while solidly cheaper than any equivalent official LEGO-released set would be, it does feel slightly overpriced at the base $60 price it's set at (but far more reasonable with the $20 coupon that it looks to have at the time of writing this review). If you're looking to get into remote-controlled 'LEGO', it's not a bad choice- you'll probably find ways to improve the designs included even if you probably can't do much to improve the app it uses. ... show more

  • A LOT of fun to build and create
Our 7 yo grandson had a great time building this toy out. Out of the box, it is a little daunting with the multiple bags holding a LOT of very tiny/small lego-style pieces to sort through and put together. The instructions are well written even though for us our bags were labeled incorrectly. He spent a few days working on it for a few hours, and was able to build the robot. The motorized feature worked well too. He loved building it, the took it all apart and started over building something else. A lot of fun, he had a great time playing with it. Definitely receommend! ... show more

  • It's the Multi-Mech
This 5 in 1 build is really amazing because it has a powered base unit that makes the builds remote controlled and light up. The versatility of the build makes the toy a lot more fun with a lot more options for play. The 5 different builds are fairly straight forward and easy to follow. I really like the options that this toy provides for different styles of play. The pieces go together easy enough for a 6 or 7 year old to build. The value is definitely here with this toy, I would get it again. ... show more
