  • Delta mod# 36-L552 5 HP uni saw 52" fence
Style: 5 Horse Power
I live in the suburbs , the saw arrived as stated and the truck had a lift gate to unload it as well as a small hydraulic cart to move it where I wanted it. Great Its very heavy about 600 lbs with the packaging including 2 palletts. It was wrapped very well , some card board was scuffed , I opened it and found no damaged. The delivering carrier had to remove the long fence (it was packaged vertically with the rest of the saw) they had to remove it to get it in the truck. All is well. This is a five (5) horsepower saw. It required a 40 amp circuit breaker, so before you buy it you MUST have a 40 amp circuit with 10 gauge wiring. It has a plug on the saw. The circuit is 40 amp 220 volt. I thought I had the correct set up but NO. I had 220 volt with a "20 amp" circuit so I had to hire a electrician to wire it up. Luckily it was about 30 feet (in my shop with easy access to install the wiring. The saw is very smooth , powerful and fairly quiet. I bought the mobile base with it, very sturdy. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE CORRECT MOBILE BASE. I would not buy the base again because the saw is so heavy , I don't think I'll move it. You MUST level the saw to the base then level the saw and base to the world. Take your time in installing the wings. There is a special way to install them , call Delta tech support, to get them level. The fence and table and all parts were very time consuming. I had to remove some of parts and reinstall them before I was satisfied that it was on the "Co-plane) It required a lot of blocking etc to get the saw up tilting towards the back then put blocks under it to get the mobile base under it. It can be done with a little enginering with blocks and levers. It took a lot of time to set it up , after you get it level and co planed it is great. Take your time go slow and you will be rewarded with a good cutting saw with no bumps on the fence. The fence table was not exactly the same width as the saw so I had a gap between it and my new home built outfeed table. I recommend the saw. The sliding fence works very smooth - no bumps like my old one. BUT you must get it co planed level. OK I've said that enough. The blade was with .001 degree of vertical. I hope I sad that right. It was so minute I did not correct it to be 100% vertical. The fence and blade was parall witht the slots. The mitre needed a little tweaking. Take your time and get it right. I have a Sears shop vac ( the biggest one they make) and it does a respectable job sucking the saw dust. Mumbles ... show more

  • Fairly minor issues
Style: 5 Horse Power
Ive had this saw for a few weeks - and have put it through its paces. I will start with the positives: The main part of the saw was well packed and arrived in excellent condition. The saw is heavy.....very heavy. I bought the 5HP version - and its a beast. The table on the main part of the saw is dead flat and very smooth. Assembly was pretty straightforward - with the exception of the table extensions (more on that later). I love the gigantic throat opening - i could almost fit my head in there. The large opening coupled with the handy spindle stop button & large offset wrench makes blade changes a breeze. Adjusting the blade to be parallel to the miter slots is super simple. The large handles on front are fantastic. The riving knife (normally the first thing removed on every table saw) seems to be pretty decent. The stock general purpose blade makes pretty clean cuts - not as good as Freud - but pretty close. There was some shipping damage - Amazon was great to work with on rectifying that. Now for the negatives: This shipped via Amazon - they subbed it out to Pilot. They were supposed to call me to coordinate the delivery date as i was supposed to be here to receive it. They did not call - they simply left it on my concrete pad outside my shop. No signatures were required. It was almost a $3,000 machine - that they just left outside my shop. This is the second issue i have had with Pilot delivering for Amazon. Although the main saw was packaged well - the other 2 boxes were not. They were cardboard boxes - with an insufficient amount of foam inside. The boxes would not hold up to normal handling considering the weight of the items inside. The plywood laminate on the fence was busted up on the corner and rolled over. The fence rails were scratched up. The el-cheapo table extension suffered the most damage as the corners were busted and mushroomed up. After some calls with Amazon - they made it right. The cast iron top had numerous sharp corners - so sharp that i sliced my hand open trying to assemble one of the cast iron wings. The method of leveling the cast iron wings is very finicky. they simply use 2 set screws on each wing to get it level. But as you tighten the wings with the 3 bolts - it draws the wings down. It also means the middle bolt (that doesnt have a set screw) bows the extension when tightened up. So its hit or miss trying to level them. By far this is the most time consuming part of assembly. So far - ive been unable to adjust the rip fence so that it slides left/right easily without compromising its ability to stay in position when clamped. If i get it to slide easily when unclamped - the fence moves with very minimal pressure when clamped. When i get it to hold position properly when clamped - its very difficult to slide it into position when its unclamped. The dust collection has a shroud around the bottom half of the blade - and at first looks very promising. But it hasnt been terribly effective at collecting all the dust. every couple weeks i have had to clean out the cabinet that the dust collection didnt remove. As many folks mentioned in their reviews - the legs on the el-cheapo extension arent long enough. So i had to get longer bolts to get it level. Finally - the el-cheapo table extension......yuck......worthless.....very cheaply made. Not sure why Delta even bothered making it. Once i get caught up in my shop - i will certainly be making a replacement. For the price - i am very happy. There are some minor issues that Delta needs to address to make this an excellent saw. ... show more

  • Great but I only wanted one.
Style: 5 Horse Power
I like the product but the first delivery was missing an essential part. Instead of replacing the part you sent a second full order which I didn't accept (with the exception of the part I needed). Your delivery person said the rest would be dumped (it was worth about $2000.)

  • A monster, with incredible power and accuracy!
Style: 5 Horse Power
Can't say enough good things about this gem of a table saw. A most pleasant surprise was its out-of-the-box accuracy. My Woodpeckers 1281R confirmed the incredibly accurate setup--RIGHT FROM THE FACTORY!! Start with the packaging... On a very sturdy, generously sized pallet, the main cabinet saw unit was well anchored to its base of two 7-ply sheets of 1/2" plywood. That's an inch of base! The saw was in a small, 5-sided house, constructed of reinforced, five- and seven-ply plywood fastened with screws. Inside its plywood house was a five-sided currogated cardboard covering. Big time praise to the packaging design team! Any negatives? Well, the extension table is, as others have said, sub-par. It took considerable finagling to get its top leveled and screwed fast to the front and rear rails. And, as others have reported, the legs are too short, requiring either longer adjustable feet or a 3/4" piece of wood underneath, as I've done for a temporary fix. Longer term, one must consider building a proper DIY extension table. Anyhow, the crappy extension table was still not enough for me to take away a star. This saw is monstrously great! FIVE STARS *****! Forgot to mention delivery. Buying this machine through Amazon includes delivery inside your shop! Wow! The delivery truck backed right up to my loading door, lowered the machine down with the truck's lift gate and wheeled the pallet onto my shop floor. By the way, both the wooden box packaging built around the unit and its pallet are in such good condition that I'll be using them to build something or other. ... show more

  • Mega Frustration
Style: 5 Horse Power
Over a month, two attempts at fixing and I'm STILL waiting for the fence and extension table components. Saw itself seems fine but with limited use due to missing parts I can't really say. I get sweet, "pat-em on the head", we're gonna' fix this placating responses...but they have their money and I still have a saw I can't use. Caveat Emptor. ... show more

  • Meh.. Meh..
Style: 5 Horse Power
I bought this saw on Amazon and about 3 months before the 5 year warrantee was up the arbor bracket finally wore down to the point that I couldn't raise or lower the blade. I was super happy with the saw maybe the first year I had it then it Bevan so difficult to raise and lower the blade that the handle broke, then the key lock on the spindle broke. I would constantly unscrew the hand screw on the door to blow off the arbor to free up the mechanism to raise and lower it. The thumb screw holding on the door takes about 30 rotations to undo. How about a simple latch??. So the arbor bracket wears out rendering the saw useless. I call delta and they refer me to the only delta tech in my state who says yeah bring it in, or tech can get to it in a few weeks and figure out the issue then parts are about 6 months out at the factory. I can't be without my saw for a week as I use it full timeso instead I find the part and order it which takes 5 months to arrive and is an absolute nightmare to install. All the tooling is sloppy and no doubt the issue will happen again. Conclusion 5 years out I wish I bought a sawstop or grizzly before the prices went sky high. Delta is wack af. ... show more

  • Delta 5hp Unisaw
Style: 5 Horse Power
It took me 51 years to get the table saw I really wanted. This is the fourth table saw I've owned. Each of the others was good enough in their own right. I had always admired the Unisaw and finally took the plunge and bought one. I got a really great buy on Amazon plus free shipping - thank you Amazon! I've read other reviews that told prospective buyers that the 5hp is overkill for home hobbyists - I'm sure it is, but if you want one then buy it. My previous saw was 3hp and it was overkill as well - We live in the land of overkill and thank God for it. I'm sure I'll never wear it out. I look forward to passing it on to another generation woodworker someday. As far as fancy electrical requirements there are none. You wire a simple 240 outlet with a 30 amp breaker and 10 gauge wire and you're good to go - this is not theory, I'm running mine on it. Mine arrived in perfect condition and went together wonderfully - everything fit, was square, parallel and the like and was up and running in about 3.5 hours. The fit and finish on the saw are flawless. ... show more

  • So far I’m not impressed with the build quality.
Style: 5 Horse Power
Good price. Lots to assemble. Cast side wings weren’t properly ground flat. Very noticeable hump Causes issues with the Beismeyer fence. Which needs a dead flat surface to ywork properly. The extension table Isn’t flat either it has a pretty pronounced bow to it both front to back and lengthwise as well. &&& The biggest gripe I’ve got is the measurement tape for then fence wasn’t out on very well, wavy not all stuck down, and is Off set by a half inch. The adjustment on the fence is still 1/2“ off even with the adjustments. with the fence at Zero, the indicator is at -1/2 in I’m going to have to sand the under side of the sides of the fence to keep them from catching It’s gonna take some time to get this dialed in. The quality control is really lacking here ... show more
