Top Amazon Reviews

  • Overall, great
Style: 3 HP 52 Inch
I've had this saw for several months now, and feel my review will be fair now. I will break it up into several parts; with my initial impressions, likes, dislikes, and wishes for improvement. Initial impressions: I believe this is a well built machine that will last a couple generations (with care of course). I am pleased that it is made in America, by and large. No doubt some things are sourced from China and such, but for the most part this is US made. It is heavy and passes the "nickle test" - though on shut down there is a bit of a "shake" but not at start up. Fit and finish are very good as well as the features. Operation is very smooth and noise is surprisingly not that bad. Arbor run out was less than .001". Likes: US made - see above Front mounted controls - very easy to use and convenient Power switch - well designed and the off switch is great Weight - makes the saw stable and smooth running Power - NO problem chewing through anything I've thrown at it Riving knife - LOVE this and how it works (more on it later) Guard - actually useful and I do find myself using it often Accessory drawer - really a great idea and keeps blades and things handy Angle gauge dial - makes bevel cuts easier Included blade - actually very good quality, made by Leitz Dislikes: Black table and fence - I've noticed my garage is darker now, I do wish it was light gray or white Wishes for improvement: Fence - the faces are not as flat as I'd like them to be. Also, my fence wasn't 90* to the table, and I used a piece of UHMWPE tape to shim it. This works, but now the fence catches on the miter slot and extension wing/table joint. Like the other review mentioned, for what this saw cost and the improvements in the saw itself, I wish they gave more attention to the fence as well. It is critical. Table flatness - overall table flatness was within .0015" or better, EXCEPT right in front of the blade. There was a dip here, the WORST place to have a variation and it was ~.0025". Dust collection - not bad really, but it could be better. I suppose sealing the cracks and openings in the cabinet would help quite a bit. Motor cover screw - I replaced the Allen head screw with an M6 thumb screw. Some other points to mention are as follows: Set up was rather easy, all things considered. Instructions and DVD were good. The extension wings took some time and a bit of shimming, but the set screws that came in the hardware bag really helped to dial it in flat to the table. Aligning the miter slots with the blade can be time consuming, but not a hard task. I got mine to within ~.0015" but it wasn't too bad from the factory. The riving knife is GREAT, but properly aligning it is CRITICAL for safe and accurate cuts. This is a trial and error process that isn't hard, but it just takes some time. Don't rush it and make sure it's right. Same deal with the fence. Make sure it is aligned correctly. Important tools for proper set up are a precision square (better than .001"), dial indicator, precision straight edge (24" or more), feeler gauge set. A helper is great. Overall, I am very pleased with this saw. It could certainly use some improvements, especially for what this machine costs. However, those are minor issues in the grand scheme of things and I am happy I finally bit the bullet and bought this Unisaw when the price had dropped. One thing I will HIGHLY recommend is a zero clearance insert, and in my opinion, the LeeCraft product is the only one worth using - superb and US made. ... show more

  • Fairly minor issues
Style: 5 Horse Power
Ive had this saw for a few weeks - and have put it through its paces. I will start with the positives: The main part of the saw was well packed and arrived in excellent condition. The saw is heavy.....very heavy. I bought the 5HP version - and its a beast. The table on the main part of the saw is dead flat and very smooth. Assembly was pretty straightforward - with the exception of the table extensions (more on that later). I love the gigantic throat opening - i could almost fit my head in there. The large opening coupled with the handy spindle stop button & large offset wrench makes blade changes a breeze. Adjusting the blade to be parallel to the miter slots is super simple. The large handles on front are fantastic. The riving knife (normally the first thing removed on every table saw) seems to be pretty decent. The stock general purpose blade makes pretty clean cuts - not as good as Freud - but pretty close. There was some shipping damage - Amazon was great to work with on rectifying that. Now for the negatives: This shipped via Amazon - they subbed it out to Pilot. They were supposed to call me to coordinate the delivery date as i was supposed to be here to receive it. They did not call - they simply left it on my concrete pad outside my shop. No signatures were required. It was almost a $3,000 machine - that they just left outside my shop. This is the second issue i have had with Pilot delivering for Amazon. Although the main saw was packaged well - the other 2 boxes were not. They were cardboard boxes - with an insufficient amount of foam inside. The boxes would not hold up to normal handling considering the weight of the items inside. The plywood laminate on the fence was busted up on the corner and rolled over. The fence rails were scratched up. The el-cheapo table extension suffered the most damage as the corners were busted and mushroomed up. After some calls with Amazon - they made it right. The cast iron top had numerous sharp corners - so sharp that i sliced my hand open trying to assemble one of the cast iron wings. The method of leveling the cast iron wings is very finicky. they simply use 2 set screws on each wing to get it level. But as you tighten the wings with the 3 bolts - it draws the wings down. It also means the middle bolt (that doesnt have a set screw) bows the extension when tightened up. So its hit or miss trying to level them. By far this is the most time consuming part of assembly. So far - ive been unable to adjust the rip fence so that it slides left/right easily without compromising its ability to stay in position when clamped. If i get it to slide easily when unclamped - the fence moves with very minimal pressure when clamped. When i get it to hold position properly when clamped - its very difficult to slide it into position when its unclamped. The dust collection has a shroud around the bottom half of the blade - and at first looks very promising. But it hasnt been terribly effective at collecting all the dust. every couple weeks i have had to clean out the cabinet that the dust collection didnt remove. As many folks mentioned in their reviews - the legs on the el-cheapo extension arent long enough. So i had to get longer bolts to get it level. Finally - the el-cheapo table extension......yuck......worthless.....very cheaply made. Not sure why Delta even bothered making it. Once i get caught up in my shop - i will certainly be making a replacement. For the price - i am very happy. There are some minor issues that Delta needs to address to make this an excellent saw. ... show more

  • Meh..

I bought this saw on Amazon and about 3 months before the 5 year warrantee was up the arbor bracket finally wore down to the point that I couldn't raise or lower the blade. I was super happy with the saw maybe the first year I had it then it Bevan so difficult to raise and lower the blade that the handle broke, then the key lock on the spindle broke. I would constantly unscrew the hand screw on the door to blow off the arbor to free up the mechanism to raise and lower it. The thumb screw holding on the door takes about 30 rotations to undo. How about a simple latch??. So the arbor bracket wears out rendering the saw useless. I call delta and they refer me to the only delta tech in my state who says yeah bring it in, or tech can get to it in a few weeks and figure out the issue then parts are about 6 months out at the factory. I can't be without my saw for a week as I use it full timeso instead I find the part and order it which takes 5 months to arrive and is an absolute nightmare to install. All the tooling is sloppy and no doubt the issue will happen again. Conclusion 5 years out I wish I bought a sawstop or grizzly before the prices went sky high. Delta is wack af. ... show more

Over a month, two attempts at fixing and I'm STILL waiting for the fence and extension table components. Saw itself seems fine but with limited use due to missing parts I can't really say. I get sweet, "pat-em on the head", we're gonna' fix this placating responses...but they have their money and I still have a saw I can't use. Caveat Emptor. ... show more
