When I first purchased this camera I was skeptical. Many cameras that claim to be Solar Powered are very lacking at best. This camera was certainly the exception to the rule. The night vision on this device is amazing. We mounted it on a tree and at night you can see across the yard like daylight. Even up to almost 200 feet away, although it becomes dim at that distance. It was very easy to mount, and because its solar I did not have to worry about any wiring. I simply screwed the camera to a 2' piece of 2x4 wood and then used industrial 36" zip-ties to quickly strap the piece of wood to a tree. The squirrels at first rejected the idea of the invasion of privacy, but have since become avid voyeurs. Pro's: - Long Lasting Battery. I've seldom see the battery indicator drop below 60% even on a cloudy day. We live in Florida so we may get more than our share of sun, but even during the rainy season it performed well. - AMAZING NIGHT VISION. I can not be more clear that the night vision on this camera is spectacular. I was simply amazed at the reach. I've seen other cameras before where you had to stand close to the camera before it saw any level of detail. Not in this camera, I can see the entire back yard at night. - Very sensitive motion detection. Since this camera uses a combination of a PIR cell (motion detector) and the visual motion detection, its sensitivity level can be adjusted quite well. The squirrels seem to trigger it quite often. Con's: - The camera is strictly cloud based. This means all video to and from the camera goes via a server seomwhere on the internet and not directly from the camera to you. - It requires the mobile app and can not be accessed through the web or from a PC. For me personally this is a problem because I wish to be able to pull a stream directly from the device. For some this may not be a problem at all. - You can only download saved video from the cloud not the SD card. For me this makes it difficult if I'm not using the cloud storage subscription service they provide since I'm not going to climb the tree every time I want a copy of the video. - No direct configurability, everything must be done through a mobile application. Many of the items I listed as "Con's" are common among almost all of the newer style cloud based camera. So its certainly not something that's unique to this camera as a down side. And most people will not even consider this a detriment, since they simply want a camera which works. And for the price, and honestly for any price this camera is exactly that, a camera that works and works well. ... show more

Why am I quite pleased with the Soliom security camera? First, the setup to my phone app and my wi-fi network was simple and went very well. This device does operate only on the 2.4 GHz frequency, so if you have a wi-fi that also has 5 GHz, the 5 GHz must be temporarily turned off. That was very easy to do following the instructions for my router. If you are new to this just do a Google search and you will find what to do. Or read the router user manual. Once the camera and app are connected the 5 GHZ can be turned back on. The camera images are high quality. The resolution can be changed between SD and HD, The images and video are sharp and clear; the colors are correctly captured. The power tilt and pan is great! From the app the camera can be adjusted up and down, left and right, AND may be zoomed in and out. This makes setup a breeze and allows moving he camera view around using the live feed. The sensitivity of the PIR (the motion detector) can be adjusted, choosing from High, Medium, Low or Disabled. High uses more battery power but allows the clips to start very quickly, which to me, is very important. The recording time of each clip can be selected form 5 sec, 10 sec, 20 sec, 30 sec or, if you are recording to a micro SD card one can select full time recording. If using the cloud service full-time operation is not available. There is a free 180 day cloud trial available if you ask Soliom. Or a 32 GB micro SD may be requested. Quality micro SD cards up to 128 GB may be used. The recorded video clips are listed in the app on a preview screen. A video recording may be started manually from the app if desired. There is also a bi-directional voice communication option available from the app. As well, there is an app button for recording screen shots to the phone. The included mini solar panel, for recharging the battery, has an attached 9 foot cord with a USB-C plug. Mounting screws for everything and a screw pattern template for the camera mount are included. ... show more
