I purchased a Power Smart 4400-Watt Open frame dual fuel generator model #MB5040DC from Amazon on 02/05/2026. This was the second unit I received as the first one was damaged in shipping. Once I received a non-damaged unit, I performed the generator preparation as per the instruction manual and then started it up on propane per instructions. I let it warm up a few minutes and then plugged in my RV and ran the air conditioner for ~45 minutes. I disconnected the load and then followed the shutdown procedure as per the instruction manual. After the unit sat for three weeks, I went to check it prior to a trip in the RV. I performed the startup as per the instruction manual, and it started and ran for ~30 seconds and shutdown with the red Overload indicator on. There was nothing plugged in. I re-did the startup procedure and the same thing happened. I checked the oil level, and the same thing happened a third time. I put some gasoline in the tank (even though I NEVER wanted to run gasoline through it) and performed the gasoline startup procedure with the same result. This unit is defective and I had to buy a replacement (NOT Power Smart) generator for my trip. I reached out to PowerSmart and they basically told me I had to find a repair shop, pay to have it shipped there and then maybe Powersmart would reimburse me for the costs if the problem was a "manufacturing problem". It's obviously a "manufacturing" problem if it only ran for ~45 minutes under load. Do not buy this generator!! ... show more

Here are my first usage thoughts 1. Odd - you don’t insert the dipstick all the way to check the oil. If you are wondering why the oil capacity is greater than what you filled the oil tank to, that is probably why. 2. No oil is shipped with the unit but it just takes regular old 10-30 3. First start was a little challenging. I followed the directions to a T. I recommend just choking it until you get spark. That’s how it started for me. 4. It was heavier than I thought it would be. 5. Given number 4 it is a little strange that it was also more compact than I thought it would be. 6. I was pleasantly surprised at the loudness, especially on Eco. It is louder than my bearcat, but not crazy louder. 7. It is a good looking unit, like the control panel. 8. I started it on propane. Easy hookup. 9. Spark plug wrench is included. You need to take off the fuel tank to access not very convenient. 10. Seems to run light load fine have not tested heavy. ... show more

Power smart 4400-watt generator was delivered in perfect condition and on time. Primary use is for demolition of a 70' mobile home. Reciprocating saw and angle grinder are the tools being used with ease. Absolutely happy with the purchase. The generator is easy to start and seems to be well made and is easy to move around, much lighter than my generac 3500. I will purchase another one to run in parallel for a plasma cutter for the frame of the mobile home I would definitely buy again very happy! I got this generator for two reasons: it's lightweight and easy to carry around, and it can power the essentials in an electrical outage. And because it's so small, I can easily store it on a lower shelf in my garage. While it won't run a whole-house air conditioner, it'll run a window unit or other room air conditioner, along with some lights, refrigerator, and some outlets. And because it's an inverter generator, it's cleaner power than a standard generator, so you can use it to power sensitive electronic devices. Besides wiring it in for temporary power to my house, it'll also power my 30-amp RV without any problems. The fuel tank is relatively small, but it'll run several hours on a tank full. The best feature is the dual fuel capability. With a couple of propane tanks, you could run this generator all day. ... show more

This is a great generator for the money. I've only used it a little so far, but it works very well. It's very light weight and easy to move where you need it. It's a little hard to get started, but I attribute that to the engine rings not being seated yet. I've run it on both propane and gasoline and I'm quite pleased with how it runs on both. The fuel saver mode also seems to work very well and it's one of the reasons I purchased this model. It's also pretty quite if you set it up away from where you are. I purchased this for a backup power source for my home after the ice storm last month. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if I need it. ... show more
