I really hate to say this but out of all the crappy products that China cranks out, this cage should not be lumped in with the rest. I prefer to buy american products but sometimes, the same product here in the USA, doesn't exsist yet or if it does, its likely to cost more. Alternatively, IMHO, it's a beast of a cage! From my POV, its really overkill when you use it to kennel a trouble seeking puppy. Its solidly built with some heavy bars that could probably handle a small wildcat or a large breed canine. The door on the front as well as the door on top, make it easy to use either way. Alternatively, its not so much overkill if you have the puppy inside the cage & a puppy hating Pitbull mix on the outside of the cage. That's why I bought the cage. To protect the puppy, keeping him out of trouble & out of the jaws of the less tolerant Pitbull mix whom I adore but he isn't so adoring of my puppy right now. So, never shall the two meet unsupervised & this will give me the peace of mind that I so desperately need when I have to go shopping or run errands & I can leave my house without worrying about one killing the other. Mind you, this is partly a short term investment. It's collapsible which is nice so it makes for easy storage when not in use. Once my puppy reaches a certain size & he demonstrates the ability to hold his own against my Pitbull mix, then, the cage/playpen will be relegated to storage to collect dust until I happen to get another puppy. Although, at my age, its looking less likely that I will since house breaking this pup has taken A LOT out of me. He's really high energy & while I really hate the idea of kennel confinement, this seems to me to be my only option at the moment. I do have another dog who adores the puppy but sometimes he gets carried away & plays a little too rough. So, I have to scold him sometimes. I will eventually put both in an outdoor kennel together since they seem to get along so well but for now, this will work to soothe the frazzled nerves of my Pitbull mix. Mind you... Its ALMOST easy to set up... I must stress this one issue as I see a minor flaw in the design. There are two Allen style screws & and Allen wrench included. Those two screws only fit in the threaded screw holes on the inside which means that every time that you have to collapse the cage, you have to remove those screws. IMHO, that renders the entire design as a little less than practical. IF the threaded holes were reversed with the receiving end on the outside & instead of screws, you could make two knobs with a threaded bolt on each one & a rubberized support for the end of those bolts that can be unscrewed from the outside with the knobs so that the top of the cage can be lowered & the knobs then screwed in all the way, that would really increase the ease of the setup of the cage. Other than that one design flaw, IMHO, it it more than suitable for my needs & I feel that its worth the price, even though its only going to be used for a few months before being placed in storage. Perhaps at some future date, I will pull it out to dust it off & either I use it myself or I give it to someone whom desperately needs a solution to corral their trouble making canine while not being closely supervised. One last design flaw to point out... A fully grown Adult large breed canine, that has it in his mind to bust out of this cage, will have little trouble if they learn just how flimsy, the top door spring latch happens to be. The makers of this cage, should be consistent in its construction. If you have heavy welded kennel bars, you need a heavier latch than the one that you placed on the top of this cage. The sturdiness of this cage should exceed all expectations by being beefy in all aspects. That means that the latches should reflect the sturdiness of the cage construction itself. Nuff said!

After heavily researching 20+ dog crates on Amazon (plus basic ones at my 3 local pet stores), I bought the 42-inch long Dakito crate from DLINK for my new rescue dog (56 lb Carolina Dog). She is afraid of most every new noise both outside and in the house (was in shelter for 1 year) so a dog crate provides the security and safety she needs. Because she stays in her crate for many hours of the day, it needs to fit all of her needs. Advantages of Dakito Dog Crate ------------------------------------------------ • STURDY & WELL-CONSTRUCTED - welded metal construction (round metal vertical bars between thicker square metal pieces at perimeter edges of crate) with 2 easy-to-use locks @ top and bottom of door (plus 3rd lock on small low feeding door integrated into main door) • SAFE - metal coating is listed as dog-safe (i.e. “green” so not environmentally toxic for animals); floor slats are spaced 13/16 inch apart so my dog’s medium-sized paws cannot get stuck in between and it’s highly unlikely that a collar or dog tag could get stuck either (I bought a soft silicone tag that has flex to avoid getting stuck and does not make noise) • COMFORT - floor slats are very sturdy/supportive and are 3/4 inch wide making them comfortable to walk on (compared to the thin wires at the bottom of most crates sold at pet stores) • HYGIENIC - dog urine/feces/hair easily fall through the well-spaced floor slats for capture in tray that sits almost 2.5” below the crate's floor. This (1) keeps the crate cleaner for your dog (when you are not there to remove waste) and prevents your dog from moving or chewing the tray • EASIEST ASSEMBLY - crate is built as 1 set of solid pieces already connected together ... so setup is a breeze (no separate metal sides/top/bottom to connect to each other); just cut the zip ties and lift it to expand • PORTABLE - crate is on wheels that all rotate 360° and lock in place (my rescue dog would freak if the crate moved or made noise when she was inside). But the best part is . . . the crate collapses down to a 42” L x 32.5” H x 8” W panel that is easy to roll into a closet/room (when not needed) or even into your car (so your furry friend can feel safe at the park or relative/friend's home) • BEAUTIFUL - the dark gray stippled metal finish on the Dakito crate is the most sophisticated of any crate I’ve seen (on Amazon or in pet stores). Although my dog could care less, I am thrilled that the Dakito crate looks so nice with my living room furniture • GOOD PRICE - it’s about the lowest price for comparable crate sizes even after including the extra delivery fee Room for Improvement ---------------------------------------------------------- • INCREASE INTERIOR HEIGHT BY 6+ inches - A dog crate needs to be large enough to allow your dog to: (1) turn around in the crate by walking from one end to the other {not just spinning in place} (2) lay with its front paws fully extended and (3) sit and stand with its head fully erect The interior size of the 43-inch Dakito crate is ~41.25“ L x ~26.25“ W x ~26“ H. Unfortunately, the Dakito crate is ~6 inches shorter than crates of similar lengths and widths sold by other sellers. Because my dog is 33” tall (when standing and sitting), the 26” interior height is too short for her so I had to (begrudgingly) buy a taller crate ... which is not nearly as good as the Dakito in every other aspect • CATCH TRAY - instead of 1 large tray, make the catch tray (for urine/feces/hair) 2 equally-sized separate pieces so it is easier to remove and clean *** Note: if your dog is destroying a sturdy metal crate, the problem is NOT the crate. The problem is that the pet parent is not adequately addressing their dog’s needs for exercise or anxiety . . . so instead of blaming crate sellers for not building an "indestructible dog prison," PLEASE consult a DOG TRAINER so that YOU can LEARN what your dog needs (instead of leaving your dog no option but to act out).

This dog kennel is okay for the price and size. There are a few things I am not thrilled with: 1. The door latches aren't practical because you need both hands to open and close the door. 2. The spaces between the bars on the floor of the kennel are far apart, and my dog seems uncomfortable in there. He is a super chewer so we cannot put anything on the floor of the kennel to cushion the bars. 3. The tray slides underneath the floor of the kennel, rather than being inside. My dog figured out how to pull the tray out, and did so repeatedly until I removed it entirely. Overall, however, I wouldn't return it. It arrived sooner than expected and is a perfect size for my [very large] pup.
