  • Nice hobbyist set (in metric sizes)
The package these chisels came in, had come open in shipping, but the chisels were not damaged. They are surprisingly sharp. I really like that the tang of the chisel goes all the way through the handle so that when you hammer it you're hitting metal, not plastic. They arrived with a light coating of oil which prevented them from rusting. The marking on the chisels are in metric sizes - not really an issue for me since I don't use them to define anything. I think these chisels are a good value for a hobbyists and handymen, and I would recommend them as such. But, if you're doing fine furniture, "these [probably] aren't the droids you're looking for". As a hobbyist's set, this gets five stars ... show more

  • Solid Chisels for the Price
I was a novice at woodworking when I got my first chisel set, and looking back, I am so grateful they were cheap. I beat the heck out of those things on various handyman adventures, only limiting their use to wood in the very beginning. I lead with this is to say, there's nothing wrong with a solid cheap chisel set. These chisels come in a thin plastic pouch that will surely deteriorate in little time. I know this to be true as the button to seal it came right off upon it's first opening. However, once the chisel is out, you forget about the pouch as the chisel itself is quite solid. They are sharp in a sense that you can chisel wood with it, but it's not dangerous to the touch or something you'd cut with. The handles feel sturdy, about a 50/50 mix of rubber and plastic. I couldn't determine if the actual chisel flows all the way through the handle, but based on the description, and perceived quality, I doubt it. None the less, they feel sturdy and I wouldn't have hesitation really laying into some oak, or your wood of choice. You get 4 chisels, and the size breakout provides good variety. Upon using this on my first piece of wood, it worked effectively. When I was done, I inspected the tip and it still appeared solid, but this was with minimal use only. One would be wise to simply be aware that you get what you pay for with wood-working tools of any sort. Chisels can range in the hundreds at the professional level. However, if you're new to wood-working, or simply don't plan on doing high-end work, these should work just fine. ... show more

  • Works great for my project . . .
These wood chisels work great for the project I'm working on. I am chipping the bark off a walnut board slab in order to make an epoxy bench. I had only been using a screwdriver before, and wow what a difference the wood chisels make. Much easier to chip off the unwanted sections. The parts I don't want chip away easily after a few taps with my hammer. ... show more

  • Their ok
The plastic the handles are made from look and feel cheap and they don't instill confidence in the longevity of these chisels. They are also priced accordingly. The handles are reinforced with metal on the end for use with a mallet. The chisels are very sharp and ready for use as soon as you wipe the shipping oil off. I haven't tried sharpening them yet but the steel looks to be of a decent quality. I do wish they had labeled them with the imperial system instead of metric but for those of you outside of the US that would be a plus. ... show more

  • Decent for light duty
These are good for light duty work like enlarging deadbolt striker holes. These won't take a lot of abuse, but for something to throw in the tool box just in case they're great. The cutting edges are pretty sharp but will need a little attention before use too

  • High hopes dashed - quality is lacking
The media could not be loaded. I know these are low price chisels and the kind of stuff you would find at a big box store or Harbor Freight. They are all chrome vanadium steel and you are expected to sharpen them to make them usable etc. But these are going to require a lot of work. While the edges were not necessarily dull, they need a lot of work. There are small chips and imperfections all along the edges and there are really deep machining grooves on both the back side and front beveled edge. You often expect some machining marks at the back surface but I have never seen machining 'grooves' at the bevel surface. If you don't believe me, check out the pictures. ... show more

  • SHARP! Woodworking tools.
They come in a nice box and then a pack inside the box that holds them nicely. The bag is vinyl so it is strong, and they can be hung up in the bag. Each chisel has a protective cover over the end and that is a must. If not, they are sharp enough that they would cut through the vinyl bag. They are very sharp for a chisel, and I was impressed with the edge on all four tools. The handles have a nice grip to them and feel comfortable in your hand. They also have a nice metal butt plate on the handle so you can smack it with a hammer or dead blow. ... show more

  • Good utility chisels.
Out of the package, chisels are a little rough. They clean up well. Shipped with a coat of protective oil and a plastic roll pack.
