  • Great product - lousy instructions
Style: 3M 16580 Accuspray Spray Gun System
This works extremely well. I will save a considerable sum on paint because it sprays so efficiently. The instructions are awful. Let me repeat - the instructions are awful. Did I mention the instructions are awful? It exclaims it's meant for professional use, so I assume they assume you already know how these upper end guns work. I'm going to call 3M as I got the air pressure set by trial and error. The gauge they give you is worthless in my estimation but then I may not understand how to use it properly; an instruction issue. The mixing sleeve is also worthless to me because I don't know how to properly use it either. That's call #2 to 3M. If you're going to purchase this, you might as well get a boat load of those thin inserts and caps with the filter built in. You get 5 and realistically each insert / cap combination is good for one painting session. I mixed up paint and thinner at a 4:1 ratio using the oz scale in the mixing insert as my paint had no instructions for using it with a spray gun. All the other scales on the mixing insert are a mystery to me. If you mix up a batch and run out while spraying, you can reuse the insert and cap for some additional spraying if you use some common sense. The insert will be collapsed, so just use a screwdriver, etc to push it back down to resemble what it looked like when you started. Rinse the inside of the cap filter with some thinner to remove the crud that it caught before it entered the spray stream. Now mix and reuse as normal. Be forewarned that the insert won't be perfectly flat after a use, so the the mixing scale will be slightly off. Unless you're painting a Mona Lisa don't fret it. The 1.4 head is the only one I used for a steel primer and paint afterwards. I ordered a box of 1.4 heads because I suspected that's what I would end up using and I was correct. I sprayed two steel structures with primer one day, and cleaned the head. The next day, I used the same head to spray black enamel for one structure and then cleaned it again and sprayed white enamel for the other structure. It worked great. The gun is real easy to keep clean and the consumables on it are reasonable in cost. ... show more

  • Great spray gun for the DIY auto enthusiast
Style: 3M 16580 Accuspray Spray Gun System
I'm a DIY custom auto builder. I don't normally do a lot of paint work, but I had a fair amount of bodywork and subsequent paint work on a recent project. I had heard good things on how well this gun sprayed primers but not much on basecoats/clear. I can confirm it sprays primer very well. I use the 1.8 mm tip and no issues caused by the gun. I also have had very good luck spraying color and clear. I've sprayed both PPG Omni and PPG Deltron using the 1.3 mm tip and I have had great success with both. Considering both paints were also a metallic, I was very impressed to see the finish. Nice even coats. Just take the time to set the fan and fluid controls and pay attention to your air pressure. The best part is the cleanup. This gun is very easy to clean. It generally takes less than 4 oz of lacquer thinner to clean the gun which is awesome. That and it takes very little time. I've actually cleaned the gun between primer coats to ensure I don't have any chunk build up on the fluid needle and I was working to 5-7 minute flash times. The attached photos were shot with the Accuspray Gun. ... show more

  • Check your cfm rating
Style: 3M 16580 Accuspray Spray Gun System
The gun performs as it should and for the right application it’s probably awesome but I’d like to save anyone the trouble I had. I bought this gun for refinishing cabinets as a professional painter. I spray oil based primer (which should not be thinned) and Alkyd based resin (aristoshield). I have a 30 gal compressor with 8.6cfm at 60psi (Lower than manufacturer recommended CFm rating). I thinned to max specs for my paint and got it to atomize quite well however it just does not push out the volume I need. I had the air cranked to 60psi just to get it to atomize well and at that psi it left a peppery texture. Also my compressor would kick on every minute or two making it hard to continuously spray without having sheen issues. Ended up switching to a fine finish low pressure tip on an airless. Perhaps with a better compressor this thing would put out more material so definitely check your cfm rating. It is amazingly efficient with low paint consumption and super easy to clean and use. I’ll give it another try and perhaps upgrade my compressor. For a homeowner with small projects this gun would rock with the right cfm. For multiple cabinet banks in a day I’ll stick with the airless. ... show more

  • not cheap but nice
Style: 3M 16580 Accuspray Spray Gun System
I bought this gun because I really hate spending a lot of time cleaning spray guns when finished painting. I can say that this does an decent job and is a big time saver. As far as how it sprays, it does a fairly well from the little I've used it so far. Compared to a set of Titan Vapor spray guns, it has a very similar pattern and setup. I will need to use it more to really get a feel for how well it sprays. As far as cleanup, I think it is a quick as you can get short of throwing away everything and starting new every time. All I had to clean was the spray nozzle, and that was very quick. It definitely cut way down on cleanup time compared to the other guns. I also like that I can put a cap on the disposable lid and liner to save paint for a while if I don't use it all. The reason I'm not giving this five stars is that it comes with only one lid but comes with three disposable liners. Short of spending a lot of time cleaning the lid for reuse so I can use the additional liners, I don't see the purpose for the mismatch. I went ahead and bought replacement lids and liners. ... show more

  • Worked well
Style: 3M 16580 Accuspray Spray Gun System
Worked well, I have never used a spray gun before, this seemed to work well, when using paint with a hardener, way better that rattle can, way better, got a little orange peel, but that was the first time and still better than rattle can, if you are painting a whole car this is cheaper and better paint, last time I used rattle can to paint a bug it took 20+ cand of paint + primer. I would recommend painting the entire car at once so the cleaning is limited, I only painted what I need to install windows and will finish the rest later, not the best way but, the only way I can get it done. ... show more
