  • These markers are fantastic!
Style: EXTRA FINE
I make pyrography art on felt hats and often hand paint them. I am getting ready to add some straw hats for our summer line and of course I can’t do the pyrography on the straw so was looking for a paint pen that would save time when painting on the straw. I receive these markers and like every other art supply in my studio, I decided to test them out on a surface that probably wasn’t one the company was thinking they might ever be used on. I received an order for a hat that is usually hand painted and I thought why not try these babies out on a felt hat because if they can stand up to that they will do just fine on the straw! I was so absolutely surprised at the durability of these markers! The hand painted hats usually take me at least a day or two to get them painted but with these markers I started the hat at 8am and was done by noon!!!! Game changer for sure! For those of you who are going to ask, yes they picked up fuzz and hair from the felt. They got pretty fuzzy on the ends but not once did they stop writing or even skip. I cleaned the tips off as I went when they got too fuzzy by simply using my fingers to pull the stuff off of the tip. The next day I opened the box and started a new hat and they were not dried out and what ever fuzz was still in there did not keep them from doing just exactly what I needed them to do. I included pictures so you can see that there is a lot of fuzz on the tip and it wrote on the paper with the fuzz with no problem. If I was forced to find something bad to say about them the only thing I can think of is that they could be a little bigger to hold more paint but I don’t really think that’s something that qualifies as a complaint. And another not really complaint but something I am hoping for would be that they made a box of all of the pro colors that you could buy for one price instead of each set separately….but that’s just because I now have to have them all! lol So if you’re looking for an acrylic paint pen that will hold up to what ever you want to use it for these are worth buying! And the color choices are outstanding. ... show more

  • The Black is REALLY Black!! Recommended by an artist.
Style: EXTRA FINE
Guys these pens are amazing! I'm an artist who hates to paint. I know that's a contradiction, but it's true. I love to draw though! I was struggling to get some paintings finished (I got bored with them) when I thought I'd try paint pens - a combination of painting and drawing, right? With crossed fingers I bought these after doing some research. I already had a couple of random paint pens from 'the other guys' I'd used to sketch with and lay down outlines, but they weren't amazing and they were hard to use. However when I tried the Tooli pens I was really impressed! First of all the tips (I got all Xtra Fine) are very nice, firm, pointy, can get good detail. Very responsive. Love that they send extras! The ink flows smoothly and isn't blotchy or blobby at all (at least not yet, we will see after I use them for a while.) But what really blew me away was the colors. The black is REALLY BLACK! The 'other guys' black is about the same level as the Tooli dark gray! I mean this is super India Ink color black, really beautiful. Other colors are vivid and stay wet just long enough that you can bring in another color and blend quite well. Note that if you puddle two different colors together they will instantly combine, kind of like water colors. Be prepared for that quick bleed. I recommend these to artists who want to doodle on canvas; works great!! I got the skin tones and naturals because I do a lot of portraits and need these colors for hair, skin, shadows, plus the browns are good for any kind of nature (fur, feathers, rocks, etc). There's some awesome muted and 'soft' sorts of colors in here and they blend well; you can even smear it with your finger while wet. Note: these pens would be awesome for pointillism! ... show more

  • Best paint pens I've used
Style: EXTRA FINE
Paint pens have come a long way over recent years, and there is a lot more out there than there used to be. I've tried many. These ones are the absolute best so far. Tooli really sets you up for success. The pens are well made and easy to use, but they also include detailed instructions for use, care, and troubleshooting, as well as extra "just in case" nibs. I am a full time working artist and I've used these hard so far, following all instructions. They have been absolutely perfect. The couple of times I tried to use and the tip seemed clogged, I just pull the nib out and submerge it in water, rubbing at it a bit to clean it. Pop it back in the pen and scribble a bit to get the water out and the ink running through it again, and works perfectly again. I like these so well, i've purchased 2 more sets. I wouldn't mind eventually owning them all! ... show more

  • Great for rock art, fun nature & skin colors, extra nibs included
Style: EXTRA FINE
They have a workable variety of colors that are adaptable to several different objects/finishes. They are filled with a pleasing array of colors. PLUS: `Set comes with five replaceable nibs. `Good choice of colors for nature scenes, skin tones and backgrounds for small areas. `These pens are easy to prime. `The paint does not clog around the base of the barrel like some other brands do. `The color flows smoothly and evenly. `The pens also have a good longevity. I have used mine on quite a few large stones, and they are still going strong. `There are six shades of green, and a whole slew of various tones of browns and blues. Nice! MINUS: `Some of the caps are very tight fitting and are difficult to remove and replace. `The paint does not always match the barrel color. `Some of the nibs have unnecessary wiggle room...meaning they wobble when in use. TRIAL AND ERROR: `I unintentionally tried these pens on fabric. Unfortunately the paint did not wash out; therefore, I think they would be good for fabric art. `I also tried them on pages in an adult coloring book with mediocre paper. They worked well, but I did see some stroke marks with some of the lighter colors. They were also slightly scratchy. Surprisingly, there was no bleed-through. `I tried them on plastic. After completely drying, the color washed away under running water and a soft brush. `They work really well on both rough and smooth stones. ... show more
