  • Worked as designed, held up well and hope to use for many years to come
This product unlike others has a longer auger set which allows you to not only dig deeper but to keep dirt from falling back in the hole. With others that the twist was shorter the dirt would fall back in the hole where as this one enough was sticking out the top to allow it to fling dirt away from the hole. I used in both loose, clay pack, and other soils and all worked fine. I also got it caught on several rocks and roots that certainly twisted my arm but didn't seem to phase the tool. ... show more

  • So far so good
I bought this to use as sort of a lawn core aerator on steroids, for some spots of my lawn that are especially hard-packed with little or no grass growth (despite it being apparent that adjacent areas of healthy grass are trying to spread into these hard-packed areas). My goal is to add a substantial amount of organic material to the existing soil (which often is clay)... didn't just want to use organic material because then as it decomposed it would just leave holes in the yard, so I wanted to include some soil as well. I had begun this process using my Pro Plugger, but the difficult part was that these extracted cylinders of clay then had to be broken up (either by crushing by hand, or repeatedly slicing with a shovel), then mixed with the compost. This auger simplified and accelerated this considerably, since drilling into the ground produced a mount of already ground-up soil/clay around the hole, to which I could then add a handful of compost (I'm using a combination of mushroom compost and peat moss), mix, and fill the hole back up. I'm hopefully repeating this throughout the bad spots of the yard over time will gradually replace the hard-packed soil/clay with a mixture that the grass will successfully spread into and thrive. ... show more

  • Works Well. Requires Patience and a Solid Drill with real Torque
The Good: The longer auger length is great so no kneeling was required. The auger action was very good even in our moderately clayed soil. The Bad: The auger's drill chock bit should be larger so periodic drill re-tightening wouldn't be required. Lessons Learned: Use caution and a corded drill if possible; this blade is a workhorse. A short, quick, bounce of the auger was super-helpful when the blade bit too hard; stopping the drill (especially when dealing with clay layer) . Reverse drill direction immediately if blade locks in soil and remain mindful of the drill motor temp so you don't burn out your drill. ... show more

  • Worked well
I drilled the full length into the ground (clay and sandstone soil) luckily no rocks. I was driving a ground rod into the ground for my antenna, the auger gave it a head start.

  • Perfect for aerating compost piles
After being sick of turning compost piles to keep them aerobic, I decided to find an easier solution. I found this auger drill that is the perfect length to drill holes into a compost pile and keep them aerobic. Works great. very happy with this method being so much easier than turning with pitch fork and equally effective. ... show more

  • Okay, but you get what you pay...
So good for clean soil, has problems with rocks (expected) or roots (not so expected). Maybe you could call it an medium duty auger. Mine came with a slight bend In the shaft which I straightened as much as I could. Had the chuck tight, but when it hit did some rounding of the shaft metal. So fairly soft metal used. ... show more

  • Great tool for bulbs, plugs and up to 2” pots
Worked in hard packed soil. Move it up and down in the hole to mound dirt around hole. This helps backfill around the plant. Drilled 64 holes with it. Will buy one for each of my sisters.

  • Junk, bends on first use then worthless
Total junk. You need a thick, high quality auger to do this kind of drilling, even if just for water to access your clay soil or to plant plants. This is cheap, made in China junk and will bend and become worthless after first use. When it spins on your hand drill it must be straight as an arrow or it will wobble to death and be worthless. This is worthless. ... show more
