  • Rugged and useful
I was faced with the task of driving a dozen 2 inch round metal posts into some seriously compacted ground that seemed impenetrable. I saw this auger on Amazon and wondered if it might do the trick. If it just lasted for my dozen post holes I would be happy. I was amazed at how well the auger dug its way into the gravelly, compacted ground using a Ryobi battery powered drill. Occasionally it would meet a larger piece of gravel that it could not push past so I would use a heavy pry-bar to smash that larger piece and then proceed with the auger. At the end of a dozen holes the auger was still in perfect condition apart from losing its paint from the working surfaces. I had been afraid that in such compacted, gravelly ground the auger spiral would become separated from the shaft. It showed no signs at all of this happening. Two years later the auger is still in use and still delivering. I found that the two inch hole it bores in the ground is perfect for a two inch metal post. Using the auger the post hole can be bored out to two feet deep. The post is a very snug fit into the hole and must be hammered in. The result is a firm setting of the post that does not need concrete to hold it in place. This worked very well in the compacted soil I was working with. If the soil had been loose or sandy that might not have been sufficient. Over the two years since I purchased this auger I have used it on a number of occasions - often for loosening soil along the line of a ditch ahead of digging it out. This has saved me a lot of effort. I would strongly recommend this auger. ... show more

  • No More Backache
I used to dread digging holes in my yard, but the 32" x 2" Extended Length Garden Auger Drill Bit has made it surprisingly easy. It attaches right to my power drill and powers through tough soil like a champ, saving me a ton of time (and backaches!). The extended length really comes in handy, so I don’t have to bend over as much, and it’s strong enough to handle everything from planting bulbs to loosening soil for post-hole diggers. I’m honestly amazed at how much this little tool has simplified my garden projects, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking to make yard work less of a chore. ... show more

  • Best used with 1/2 inch drive drill.
Used for drilling holes for beach umbrellas. Works great!

  • Works Well. Requires Patience and a Solid Drill with real Torque
The Good: The longer auger length is great so no kneeling was required. The auger action was very good even in our moderately clayed soil. The Bad: The auger's drill chock bit should be larger so periodic drill re-tightening wouldn't be required. Lessons Learned: Use caution and a corded drill if possible; this blade is a workhorse. A short, quick, bounce of the auger was super-helpful when the blade bit too hard; stopping the drill (especially when dealing with clay layer) . Reverse drill direction immediately if blade locks in soil and remain mindful of the drill motor temp so you don't burn out your drill. ... show more

  • AMAZING!
Fantastic product! Did more than advertised! Back this tool with a Milwaukee or Dewalt drill and you can dislodge an inch and a half rock from beneath the soil. Keep in mind you have to dig a couple of inches then pull the bit out of the ground for best results. Unfortunately, I will never buy this product again because it is so solid I will never need another. ... show more

  • Not for sentricon
As this could be a great product for for plants this is not compatible for termite sentricon installation in a rock area. Giving this 3 starts because like I said this could be a great product for planting

  • Good quality earth auger, you need to have a pretty strong drill to run it
This is pretty good quality, I wish it would have been just a little bit sharper on the end but it's extra long. I used it to tunnel underneath the sidewalk

  • So far so good
I bought this to use as sort of a lawn core aerator on steroids, for some spots of my lawn that are especially hard-packed with little or no grass growth (despite it being apparent that adjacent areas of healthy grass are trying to spread into these hard-packed areas). My goal is to add a substantial amount of organic material to the existing soil (which often is clay)... didn't just want to use organic material because then as it decomposed it would just leave holes in the yard, so I wanted to include some soil as well. I had begun this process using my Pro Plugger, but the difficult part was that these extracted cylinders of clay then had to be broken up (either by crushing by hand, or repeatedly slicing with a shovel), then mixed with the compost. This auger simplified and accelerated this considerably, since drilling into the ground produced a mount of already ground-up soil/clay around the hole, to which I could then add a handful of compost (I'm using a combination of mushroom compost and peat moss), mix, and fill the hole back up. I'm hopefully repeating this throughout the bad spots of the yard over time will gradually replace the hard-packed soil/clay with a mixture that the grass will successfully spread into and thrive. ... show more
