We ordered this 3/8 inch self sinking aeration hose for our backyard pond to replace the original hoses that came with our Aquascape Pro Air 60 aeration kit. When our pond contractor installed the system, he had to pile rocks on top of the two original hoses to keep them on the bottom of the pond because those hoses aren’t weighted. It worked, but it has always been inconvenient. Any time we cleaned the pond or moved the rocks around, the hoses would float up and the diffusers would shift out of position. We’ve wanted weighted hose for a long time just to avoid that constant issue. Before ordering, I confirmed that our aeration kit uses 3/8 inch hose, which matches this product. The box includes 66 feet of hose along with 4 ribbed metal connectors and 8 stainless steel hose clamps. That is more than enough length for both aerators in our pond. We originally thought we might need to hire our pond contractor again to swap out the hoses, but my husband wanted to try installing them himself first. Thankfully, he was able to do the entire replacement without any trouble. The new hose fits the Aquascape compressor perfectly, and the included clamps tightened securely. I added photos showing the steps we took to remove the original Aquascape hose and attach the new weighted hose to both the compressor and the diffusers. Once installed, the difference was immediate. The hose sank straight to the bottom of the pond on its own and stayed there. No rocks needed at all. The weight is just right, and the hose stays put even when we move things around during cleaning. It also matches the size of the original Aquascape hose exactly, so everything connected easily. I didn’t include a photo of the installed hoses inside the pond because they sink completely and you can’t see them once they’re on the bottom. Overall, we are very happy with this weighted hose. It solved the floating hose problem completely, and we didn’t have to bring our contractor back out to install it. The DIY install was quick, the included parts were everything we needed, and the hose performs exactly the way we hoped. Much easier than dealing with rocks to keep the lines on the pond bottom.

We moved into a house with a wonderful koi pond in the backyard about 7 years ago. The pond is about 10’x10’, and thanks to a mature koi we rehomed for a neighbor and several small koi left from the previous owners, we now have quite a cool koi community. Truth be told, they’re our pets, our family. The pond has been quite self-serving through the years. We feed the koi, and we vacuum out the pond about once a year, but that’s it. The water stays stable on its own, and we hate to mess with the ecosystem if we don’t need to. We’ve just started to entertain the idea of upgrading the pond. As our few koi grow bigger, we see the value of aeration, and that’s where this hose comes in. At this point, it’s overwhelming. We still need to learn more and make a better plan. We need to put a pump in place, too. We also need to make sure we don’t kick up too much muck or ammonia that might make our koi sick. As for this hose, it’s a great quality and will last for several years. It’s what my research says we need. It’s heavy duty, and I love that it comes with steel hose clamps and copper menders, because I know we’ll need those. Next up, we’ll be giving our pond a good vacuum and then working to secure an air pump and diffuser. I’m glad we have this hose to start. When I first opened it, I realized we were in good hands.

Such a better quality than my 4 year old aeration tubing. I have Koi ponds and need a lot of aeration, especially in the summer when the water temperatures go up and the oxygen levels plummet. I have a large central air pump and I branch these 3/8 inch hose lines to provide air in the different areas of the fish pools and the pans too. The fact that it is heavy and sinks, keeps the lines neat and on the bottom. 66 feet is plenty of line for my needs. This is a flexible hose and not stiff like some other plastic lines that I've used in the past.

This is an impressive hose kit that comes packed with all the necessary hardware, including eight stainless steel hose clamps and four copper menders. The components feel durable and are built to handle continuous outdoor and underwater use. I picked this kit up to compliment our fish pond project. While the entire setup is still a work in progress, the plan is to use this weighted tubing inside converted stock feed troughs. Until late last year sinking aeration hoses weren't part of my universe. Then there was a rapid turnover event in our large koi pond, a converted swimming pool, which had been stable for 15 years, and we lost a number of irreplaceable koi. Not because they were expensive, they weren't, but because they were friends. So I altered my entire ecological approach to the pond, which had relied on no mechanical pumping or constnat electricity use, but bled off the bottom anoxic layer as channeled rainfall off the roof added fresh water from the top. A period of drought caught me offguard, and overnight it turned and half our koi were lost, some quite large and friendly with given names. So the new regime is high oxygenation throughout, which means stirring the water in overturning currents and increasing the effective surface area for gas diffusion with clouds of bubbles. This is best achieved with a fairly robust air pump designed for the job, and sinking air line with sinking pond aeration devices. Pay close attention to the max PSI of the pump and the depth at which it will be deployed, using basic physics. This line does sink and is pretty nice to work with. It comes with a decent supply of connectors and sized hose clamps. It's also the right quantity... hardly anyone will need a single 66' line, though an actual pond might require that. But cut in half it's good for our usage. Can't say how well it will last but the initial impression of materials is good. Of course, now that the bottom of the pool is well oxygenated, the koi all rest there when it's cloudy and we can't see 'em for a week or more at a time when it's winter storms in hawaii, and there have been some pips lately... but they're all healthy and even feisty, after we added some donated semi-skanky-looking ones from a local buddhist monastery with higher standards for koi than we have. Hey, achieving zen doesn't mean you want your mellow harshed by an imperfect carp.
