We have quite a few cat toys for our 3-year-old house cat (not allowed outside). With one exception, the toys all need a bit of catnip before she will pay attention to them. Her favorite toy is a small paper bag that seems to be a natural toy for her (no catnip needed) – sigh. The first thing I did was remove the gall fruit (silver vine) because the cat is on a special diet and cats will eat gall fruit. Silver vine is an alternative to catnip and some cats who ignore catnip will respond to silver vine – it is safe. You get 2 cotton ropes with cotton strings and frayed ends plus 2 packets of catnip. Experience: I dangled the ropes in front of the cat, she swatted a few times then walked away. I emptied the catnip into the package and shook the ropes in it. Tossed them on the floor and the cat pounced, kicked, bit, tossed and rolled on the ropes (see pics). Success. After 15 minutes of intense play, she took a cat nap next to them and then walked away. She paid no attention to the ropes after that – it’s been 4 days now. Catnip works best if not given too often, so a couple times a week I will do another application – the cat needs the exercise. Conclusion: Success with this cat toy (and I bet small dogs would have fun with them too – rope tug) will depend on the cat and the cat’s age. I find no fault with the toy, so I am giving it 5-stars, it seems to be a safe toy and that is the most important thing.

My cats most favorite thing in the whole world is twist ties, I'm constantly looking for toys that might be a replacement. He's big on tossing them about and carrying them around the house so I thought these ropes might work out well. I was right he does love them he seems to really like the long one more than the short one but he's a real big BOI (we're working on it). I did have to cut the gall fruit off. He is on a very special diet and has some health things so I didn't want to chance it. My cat can be trusted with string and dangly bits as he's a very mature fella and it's never been his thing. I would however be careful to not leave it unattended if you aren't 100% sure. I also check his toys regularly to make sure there isn't anything dangling and that he isn't trying to shred it with his murder mittens and saber tooths. The catnip bags are a little on the flimsy side so he managed to accidentally put a hole in it with in the first few mins but they didn't rip open or anything.

We have 2 cats in the house. 1 is a 7 year old, grumpy male and the "newcomer" is a 6 month old female. The grumpy male, as expected, swatted the rope a few times and then walked away. Every now and then, when he thinks nobody is looking, I spot him chomping down on the larger of the 2 ropes. As soon as he thinks there are eyes on him, he stops and saunters away like he has no interest at all ... The younger female on the other hand attacks the smaller rope with abandoned glee and doesn't care if she has spectators gawking at her while she attempts to put the alien rope in its place ...

My cat is a chewer and loves these! Like any toy with string-like elements, I let him play with these only supervision (so that he doesn't accidentally swallow any of the string). I can't say much about the quality of the catnip since my kitty doesn't really react to catnip, but he really likes the gall fruit tails. My only issue is that they crumble and will fall off the thing eventually with enough play.

Due to the ropes being packages with potent catnip sachets, my kitties went crazy for these as soon as I got them out. They play tug of war with the larger one and also roll with and kick at it. They seem to like how their claws catch on the material. One of them also likes to carry the smaller rope around in his mouth. The cats are very intrigued, especially with the motion of the larger rope when I twirl it around. They also plan attacks on the fringed ends. I am impressed with how durable these are and the uniqueness of the design. This gives them more stimulation than just having more little balls or mice to chase around. For the low price, these are an especially great value.

So, as I was saying, one of the cats, the neighbors much less, ripped off the gall fruit and ate the whole thing. My eager children took it outside and showed it to the neighbors cats instead of just letting our cats wake from their slumber and play with it themselves. They love the catnip and the toy, but I had to take away the catnip from my children because they were about to make a huge mess by handing the kitties the entire 3 bags at once. That being said the bags of catnip themselves are pretty durable, the kitties were enthusiastically loving on it teeth and all, and they didn't snag it a hole in it. The ropes themselves seem pretty well made too! I didn't notice any loose or stray threads, which is important to avoid for kitty health! Now I would have to say, it's not a toy that my cats would go out of their way to play with. But if you hand it to them they do roll and chew on this. Also the catnip is a bit messy to apply. So I'm not really sure this is something that I'd get again. But, all cats are fickle and they definitely have their own sets of things they like to play with, for example I had one cat that went out of her way to chew electric cords, she probably would've loved this!!

My Cat is very finicky about toys, would rather play with a box than the toys I get him. These two braided ropes were an instant hit. The frayed ends are irresistible to him and he enjoys them for hours. They came with two pouches of extra strength catnip (He usually doesn’t like the one I purchased for him) and I just rubbed them on the ropes like a resin bag and he is cracked out. I got the large and small set. And the current price point is less than a cup of gourmet coffee. They are extremely light for how sturdy they are made. They are a hit.
