  • I'M A TOTAL ROOKIE, MY FIRST 22W Laser Engraver
Size: Falcon2 22W with Rotary Kit
Simple to install, adjust and use, I bought it for my office, but I think I'm going to move it to the garage where I have a spacious place where the smoke won't affect it, I know I can do a simple job to keep it in my office, but NO THANKS . Otherwise it is an impressively good machine, the design software is very easy to use, and I tested all the security functions and they worked wonderfully, a very good product and highly recommended in every way. ... show more

  • Engraving your own images is tempting, but I would suggest doing some research before jumping in.
Size: Falcon2 12W with Rotary Kit
Creality Laser Engraver 4-in-1 I have been interested in a laser engraver for quite some time. The ability to engrave my own artistic images on a variety of surfaces was a most appealing ides. The engraving of metal surfaces is my primary interest. When this model came available I did not hesitate to order. Physical assembly was easy, almost intuitive; but getting the firmware installed so the machine could work proved quite a challenge. I eventually had to contact Creality to attempt to solve the issue. It took several days for them to respond. They wanted proof of purchase and other information which I provided, then I never heard back from them. I eventually got it working with help of a more technically inclined friend & some helpful videos we found online. Software to run the machine is also not included. They recommend either LaserGRBL which is a free program or Lightburn which is more comprehensive, but has subscription fee requirements. The home is not an ideal location for one of these machines. They are better utilized in a shop building or similar non-residential building. Some materials smoke a lot, particularly wood and cardboard, enough to set off a smoke detector. Some of the material you might be working with can also emit harmful gases when burned with the laser. If you plan on in home operation you will likely want an exhaust system of some sort to pull smoke and gases from the home. Getting things properly engraved takes some time to get used, different settings are required for various materials and thicknesses. I am slowly starting to get the hang of it, but this unit is not really strong enough for the type of work I was envisioning. That is on me, not the machine, I should have researched more before jumping in. If you are interested in a low power machine for simpler things like wood, paper, stone and acrylic, this machine should suit your needs just fine. I have since learned that for metal engraving, a fiber laser is more the type of machine I should be looking at; - a CO2 laser apparently is the best choice for engraving glass. Having the ability to engrave your own images on various materials is most tempting, but I would suggest doing some research before jumping in. The rotary kit is a nice feature to have for engraving cylindrical objects. I attempted several time to engrave bottles and glasses, but the image always came out distorted. The rotary attachment seems to be functioning properly, I believe I must be missing some important settings with the software. To me there seems to be a large learning curve with these machines. I have to do a lot of research as well as trial & error to get satisfactory results. I feel that is just the nature of the beast, and not something to be attributed to the machine. Once I got it up and running, I have had no issues with the engraver that could not be attributed to my own ignorance. This machine works well within the range of it's capabilities. 4 stars. Explaining my rating system: 5 - a superior product - I would recommend 4 - above average – a great choice 3 - average – what one might generally expect 2 - below average – I would advise seeking an alternative 1- Horrible – a waste of your valuable money - avoid if at all possible ... show more

  • Nice upgrade on the first gen Falcon
Size: Falcon2 22W Basic
I picked this up to replace my 10w Creality Laser Falcon, which I've had for about a year. Directly comparing the two, this machine is slightly larger (the 10w Falcon has a roughly 20x23" footprint, while this 22w Falcon2 is around 23x25"). In terms of assembly, this machine was much simpler than my Falcon as the frame comes fully assembled with the gantry and belts preinstalled and ready to go (the original Falcon required you to assemble the frame and install the Y belts yourself, which was time consuming and not beginner friendly)- all you have to do for assembly on this one is screw in the feet, connect the air assist and attach the laser module. Now in terms of a few features- this model has integrated air assist, which is huge because you can easily control it through Lightburn or whatever laser software you're using, in addition to manual control if you choose. The ability to have your software turn it on while cutting and off while engraving is wildly helpful and gives much better results overall. The transparent safety screen over the laser nozzle is an integrated part of the laser module on this machine, vs a separate piece attached with magnets on the the original Falcon. The Falcon2's frame also has more manual control buttons, which I know was a common complaint about the original model Falcon- you can easily home and move the head manually using the buttons on the frame rather than strictly through your software, as well as a manual control dial for the air assist. It's also got a couple of extra safety features including a huge red abort button and a keyed safety lock so you can lock down the machine when not in use- handy if you have kids or pets. Leveling and operation are pretty much the same as the original Falcon- you're provided with a metal guide to manually adjust the distance of the laser from your material based on thickness. Operation wise, little difference- I highly recommend ponying up the money for a Lightburn license, it's affordable and an excellent program. You'll need to tinker with different power/speed settings depending on your materials. I LOVE that this machine automatically turns off the air assist and fans when it's not actually doing a job- makes it so much quieter. I got the basic package and it is missing a few things you'll probably want- primarily a honeycomb bed and an enclosure. You will have to buy these separately. That said, bang for your buck this a great machine- leaps and bounds better than the first gen Falcon. I've been a Creality customer for a long time (started with their 3d printers, I currently have about a dozen of them) and you do need to have patience and be willing to tinker once in a while, because if something goes wrong you're going to get minimal support- thankfully there's a pretty good user base on social media and you can usually find help there or on Youtube. But for the capability you get, they're a pretty good value. ... show more
