We recently needed to administer infusions for our dog at home (neighbor has the skills) and purchased these 21G butterfly needles for the task. Given that our pet's comfort was the top priority, I was pleased with how smoothly the insertion went. I wasn’t specifically looking for butterfly needles, but I keep a well-stocked lab and emergency kit, and having the right tool on hand matters more than wishing you had it later. These are individually packaged, cleanly assembled, and consistent from piece to piece. The tubing is flexible without feeling flimsy, the wings are sturdy, and the needle tips are sharp and uniform with no visible burrs. Storage is straightforward thanks to the compact packaging, which helps if you’re organizing supplies for quick access. My only gripe is the outer box. Mine must have gotten slightly wet in transit because the blue ink was smeared, the box was a bit warped, and a few inner packs were starting to slip out. Fortunately, since each needle is individually wrapped, sterility wasn’t compromised, but for a sterile product, sturdier exterior packaging would be a welcome improvement. This is obviously a specialized item, but if you have a legitimate lab, veterinary, or technical use for butterfly needles, these check the boxes: sterile, consistent, and well-made. Solid quality and a good value for the quantity.

In my hospital we train nurses, interns, phlebotomists and other medical professionals on different ways of obtaining blood, giving medications, etc. and we start by practicing on anatomic forms. I realized not long ago we could save money by using veterinary and lab butterfly needles. Any medical items like needles and IV equipment labeled for use by people must be rigorously tested and sterilized for safety reasons (to protect against infection), which is completely appropriate Veterinary supplies usually have lesser sterilizing standards, and therefore are less expensive that I've noticed. This set of 100 pieces of vet safety butterfly needles/tubing is identical in looks and function to human butterfly needles. The come individually wrapped, just like those for people. I personally have compared the point sharpness and fine details of how the tubing connects to the needles--they are the same. The needles work exactly the same and blood flows through the tubing at the same speed as the needles designed for human use. The students use these on the anatomical forms as mentioned above. They tend to waste quite a few in their training, which is acceptable and doesn't break the bank. I only wish I had thought to use these before now. The hospital would have saved a lot of money, ha. A definite recommend.

In my lifetime I don't think I'll ever be able to use a hundred butterfly needles. Anyway, it's better to have them and not need them then need them and not have them. I don't do a whole lot of pediatric related stuff, but when I do it's nice to know that I have a nice durable setup like this one. This rig is top of the line probably something I would expect to see from p&g. Sharp needle doesn't been very easy despite how thin it is which is exactly what you want. Even the tubing is high quality how's that for a surprise!

These butterfly needle sets have a 3/4" 21g beveled needle with attached tubing roughly 7" long. The box I ordered in February 2026 does not expire until June 2030. The expiration date on the box matches the dates on the individual packages. There is a plastic sleeve over the butterfly section and part of the proximal tubing. The sleeve provides a sheath, so the butterfly needle can be withdrawn into it after use, shielding the sharp end (see video). This sleeve can be snapped open and removed before insertion, if desired. A threaded adapter at the distal end of the tubing includes a rubber-sleeved needle. This adapter is compatible with the threaded hub for vacuum collection tubes. The threaded adapter can be removed, leaving a standard Luer connection. This allows a single venipuncture for lab collection to be converted for subsequent access for fluids and medication. These butterfly sets are very versatile. Both the needle sheath and the vacuum-tube adapter are useful, but can be removed for specific situations. I requested these for use with our local animal shelter and associated veterinary clinic; they use these sets regularly. I'm glad to have these.
