  • Just what I needed.
Capacity: Ryzen 5 4500U
I sweat the decision to buy for several weeks before I landed on this machine as a good compromise. I don't need a luxury liner of a laptop but I need something better than the bargain offerings. I'm happy with the processing power and so far I'm glad I took a friend's recommendation to look into Ryzen. I do a lot of audio work and having a slim laptop to take with me to gigs that can handle the workload was key. The fact that I can fold it up into tablet mode and prop it up somewhere in a crowded production environment is a plus although for nearly everything else I do the touch capability is just frosting and not something I use all the time. Battery life seems good although I haven't had a chance to really put it through its paces on a show yet. The screen is terrific and a joy to watch movies on. I don't have much to say about the graphics power as I don't do any gaming so I can't speak to FPS in Fortmine. The keyboard is pleasant to type on although probably not as nice as a gaming laptop or MacBook. Thekeyboard backlight only has high, low, and off which leaves a little to be desired but wasn't a deal breaker for me. I like that two of the F-keys are camera shutter and mic mute. The body is so thin that the left USB port has a little expansion door that slides open when you plug in. Seems nice but I'll have to see how long they last against me fumbling to plug in hard drives in the dark. The trackpad is one of the better ones I've encountered recently. A light touch gets you around but it's good at rejecting touches while typing. The built in sound is about what you'd expect for a laptop. It's fine for watching YouTube but when I watch movies I always reach for headphones or a Bluetooth speaker. I bought the model with only 8GB of RAM and I will likely upgrade at some point. For most daily usage it's fine but when crunching through heavy audio projects I think I'll want a bit more. I haven't looked into cracking the case yet so I don't know how difficult that is. I'm used to digging around inside of expensive stuff but if you're not, you should probably consider going for more memory at the outset if you think you'll need it. EDIT: Just upgraded from 2x4 GB to 2x16 RAM. The case was fairly easy to open as was the shielding over the memory. I open stuff all the time and have a large set of tools for it so your mileage may vary. If you do upgrade don't skimp on the frequency. 3200 MHz is what comes in the box so keep that in mind when ordering upgrades. ... show more

  • Runs as cool as a server, but quiet
Capacity: Ryzen 5 4500U
It makes no sense i give a full review of this PC because i don't use it like it's intended. I wanted a tiny desktop computer that had a mobile processor and was capable of playing games of the circa 2010 flavor. You know, a NUC (very tiny Intel PC, or AMD Ryzen PC that can fit in the palm of your hand). This laptop fulfils just that. It's connected at the back (out of sight with the lid always closed) to a 43-inch 4k TV with a mechanical keyboard and Logi wireless mouse. Thanks to my friend who convinced me that i ought to get a laptop as a just-in-caser these days, I like the fact that if i had to go out on the road because a client would like me to visit their facility to initiate the web-building process i can simply throw it in a bag and be off. It's super fast by the way, and very versatile for when i need it to be, and man, the build design makes one look highly professional and sleek - like you mean business. And as a freelancer, presentation, how prospects perceive you, means a lot. I can have the PC running all day and night without a hitch or slowdown, or heat build-up - a far cry from when i had an Intel Core 2 Duo 'everyday' (average, not high-end like this one) PC that shut down whenever i went on YouTube to watch any 1080p video. I had to have a fan literally blowing up the behind of the laptop also, because it was raised to let air flow under it. Sigh 😪 in 2020, this is what AMD's Ryzen based systems can achieve for you. And by the way, i live in a super-hot tropical country - Jamaica. So... my standing fan is NEVER on the computer now, just only on me. Like wow! The only niggling negative for me is its weight. If i could have found an under 3-pound system with an advertised HDMI 2.0 port to run my 'monitor' at 3840 x 2160 at 60Hz, then i would have simply gotten that one instead. But hey, as it is, it's mostly a server anyway, and a business-focused but gaming PC for whenever that scenario comes about, so it's fine. Rather than paying ~$1,500 for this class of PC, i got it for a little over $600 - a literal givaway. ... show more
