First off, after owning computers since the early 1980s, this is the first AMD base platform I have purchased for myself, in the windows world I have always used Intel. I have at this time a water cooled PC fire breather that I built myself two years ago ($4K plus sunk in it), but now that I am heading toward retirement, and will be traveling soon, I wanted something smaller, less complicated. But I still wanted something I could still game occasionally on. I saw the specs on thought why not. Since I got it yesterday I have been very pleased with it, I though I would be going backwards in power, but just not the case! It runs like a champ. Now I'll be putting it through some gaming soon, but it has run some other graphics software really fast. Setup was: plug in, charge a little (it was already at full charge) turn on, follow Cortana ( I let her tell me what to do - usually I do it myself, but I liked the new experience) and I was offloading from the old desktop (actually its too big to sit on a desk) to this platform. I was looking ASUS platforms that were in the $2k range, but I am so glad I picked this one up at that less than $1k price! No fuss, no muss, just working great! I have stayed away from ASUS products for years due to bad experiences in the past, but after reading reviews on multiple sites on the TufGaming laptops I decided to give the 2019 FX705DT a try, since it was on sale after the release of the 2020 edition. So far, I am not disappointed. Runs everything I installed smoothly, and the pre-installed monitoring software (including a BIOS utility) allows for on the fly adjustments while gaming. Comes with a 1 year warranty, but purchased Asurion's 4 year protection with it because of my past with ASUS (my previous ASUS products never lasted past the manufacturer warranty). No touch screen, but I wanted a laptop, not a tablet, so not a deal breaker for me, although those looking for touchscreens should look elsewhere. Edit: Over a year since I purchased it, and it's still going as strong as the first day I booted it up. I'm a gamer, and I play daily, 3+ hours a day, every day. Totally worth it. ... show more

I got this laptop because of the large screen, the design, and for playing games offline. I'm happy with all three of these caetgories but there are some downsides. The screen looks great. It's big and clear and bright and I can stare at it for hours without my eyes getting sore. A bit bulky to carry around but worth it in my view. As for the look of the thing, it's pretty nice. Not ugly like most gaming laptops. Sleek and black, and the keys light up and change colors like christmas lights. It looks like a computer that a grown man would own. Finally, the performance. Here's where there's some problems. The asus software has four pre-sets for running the system: winows, silent, performance and turbo. Unfortuneately, silent is too weak to run anything but a word processor, so if you want to watch youtube that means bumping it up. And if you plan on gaming, turbo is the only way to go. I've been able to get decent results, though like I mentioned, I'm a patient gamer, preferring to play offline. On witcher 3 I'm running on ultra or high setting and it looks great on my 4k tv. But the fans blast like a jet engine. it's absurdly noisy. I play with headphones so I don't mind but my wife can hear the thing whirring away from her office down the hall. Also the speakers are very weak; another reason to wear headphones. Overall this computer is fast and powerful, looks pretty and has everything I need for a price that wasn't outrageous. A bonus is the large amount of storage space--a 500 gb SSD for windows and seperate 2 TB drive for storage. If it weren't for that fan noise I'd give her five stars. ... show more

Thank you Asus. Thank you thank you thank you. This product could not be better. YEARS AGO I dropped around $1300 for an Alienware M17. In a position to get a gaming laptop again, I was inclined to lean towards what I've always known. Everyone - literally every single gamer I know - said to go Asus instead. And I can clearly see why within the first few hours of playing on my new beast. This computer does everything. It doesn't overheat (YES SERIOUSLY A GAMING LAPTOP THAT COOLS ITSELF SUCCESSFULLY! IT EXISTS!). It feels -sturdy-. Even the connections on the USB/ports are more secure. It's designed smart. Even the way they position the arrow keys and how the WASD look unique to the rest of the keys. I knew I was getting a great computer. I had no idea I was getting the best computer I've ever owned. Like this product very overall. It has a fast boot time and accesses file fast on ssd drive. Really love the high resolution 17.3 screen as I do a lot of spreadsheet work. It also does light gaming quite well. The only drawbacks I have found are minor but I knew about them when purchasing. Would have loved to have both a DVD player as well as 2tb ssd storage drive as standard equipment instead of the 5400 sata one. ... show more

I've had problems with the laptop all of a sudden turning off and not turning on twice now. This time it won't turn on at all. My warranty return policy has ended.
