Top Amazon Reviews

  • Are you a smart buyer?
Capacity: 16GB | 1TB SSD
So I will start this review by making the obvious comparison so that anyone can understand why money doesn't always equal value. This machine it's worth it's every penny! On a Mac of 2k-3k dollars you get halve the power of this machine. Perhaps the only Mac advantage would be having a camera,a better mic, an a equally as good monitor. If you speak about ram...this comes with 16GB same as Mac. 1.5Terabytes...500 more than mac (a Mac that is 3k dollars). Not to mentioned that if you want power this allows you to adjust the extent of power of the cores it has. Unlike apple which the turbo boost is mostly automatically used for unimportant tasks to make it seem faster. Yes, I was a mac user. And now that I got into understanding Computers it is why I realized that more expensive doesn't always mean more power. This little laptop is both powerful and relatively cheap. Just because they compromised aesthetics to put more power into the machine. The only negative things about this machine are: No front camera. And an average mic. But honestly if you own a cellphone who cares. This is a great gaming machine. Is great for editing videos or photos. It is great for entertainment. You can wirelessly link to smart TVs. It is actually beautiful if you like carbon fiber look. Like a high end car kinna look. Keyboard lights up different colors. Asus power adjustment software. And that is just a few reasons to buy this one. I know this looks like an advertisement for Asus vs Mac. But j think if you value your money and your hard work you should always buy what is useful not what is pretty. The only reason why you should buy Mac is if you are loaded with money and don't mind paying more for less. But if you are indeed a smart person you should pay for what you want to get. Not more and not less. ... show more

  • Good Buy for the Money
Capacity: 16GB | 1TB SSD
Bought this to replace a 6-year old Asus ROG laptop, and at about the same price. Runs well with no problems so far (3rd day of using it). Out of the box and turned on the first thing I saw after the ROG logo was Auto Repair notification. A brief cause for concern but whatever the issue was it was resolved. Windows 10 updated properly with no problems. Interesting keyboard layout - no numeric keypad but all buttons, other than numbers are along the right side. Boots up quickly taking advantage of the 512 Gb SSD. Runs PC games quite well. Tried Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint at maximum settings and game ran smoothly. This laptop handles video editing and graphics applications like Photoshop and Pinnacle Video quite well. Overall I would say this Laptop is well worth the money - may not be the top of the line (whatever that means) but I don't think you could go wrong with buying this one. ... show more

  • Good so far but keep some things in mind.
Capacity: 16GB | 1TB SSD
I would say my knowledge of computers is slightly above average, but not a lot. Please keep that in mind. Bought this laptop for three reasons: School, video editing, and my old one is getting old (bought in 2013). This is a very good laptop, just remember that for serous gaming you will definitely need it plugged in. This lap top is useful if you want the convenience of one machine serving dual purposes as a portable work/school machine by day and a "friend's house LAN party" gaming beast by night. It won't be the absolute best at either, but very very decent at both. If you want the absolute best at both those things you need two different machines. So far I have seen this laptop run Farcry 5 flawlessly on high settings, when plugged in to an outlet. On battery power it seems to try to conserve battery by limiting its performance. Understandable, at least as a default setting. Theoretically one could simply adjust settings so the machine would not make any sacrifices on battery power, but battery life in this lap top is poor to begin with. Maybe this is standard for gaming laptops: It did less than 2 hours playing Farcry 5, and that's with the sacrifice in performance. I can only imagine what it would be at full performance. For normal use like office and web browsing I get around 4 hours, and 5 hours if I put it in battery saver mode. There are a few drawbacks to battery saver mode, like severely reduced screen brightness and suspension of one drive syncing, ect. I wouldn't recommend doing any serious gaming without being plugged in to an outlet. Battery life under those conditions is extremely short, and performance will be heavily throttled. If you only want a computer that is powerful for normal use and some decent video editing, and you don't care much about gaming, you can find laptops that will suit you better for cheaper. The screen tops out at 60hz. It seems average to me. Not amazing and not bad either. I use an external monitor and it looks great. Again, for gaming this thing is a beast as far as I can tell. Just make sure it's plugged in to an outlet, and don't expect to be able to use it more than 5 hours tops even for non-gaming applications without needing to charge. Not a fan of the RGB stuff and as far as I have found you can't turn it off completely, but you can set it to "static" and at least it won't pulse all the time. Also there is a loud ROG boot-up sound that you can turn off by pressing the ROG button on your keyboard and deselecting the "boot-up sound" option under device configuration. You can also go into the BIOS at boot-up to disable it. ... show more
