After wiring it in, the setup and usage is pretty straight forward and has three operating modes plus the test mode. The Dusk to Dawn mode is labeled D2D on the unit. For me it worked flawlessly, coming on shortly before sunset and turning off shortly after sunrise. Auto Mode is also designed to come on shortly after sunset until shortly after sunrise, but only if motion is detected. The stated range is adjustable from a maximum of 10 feet to a maximum of 60 feet. When set to 10-feet max it still detected me up to about 16 feet away from the sensor. When set at 60-feet I only tested it at 60 feet and it triggered every time I walked by. I’ve seen no false starts or early shutoffs since installing it 3 weeks ago. While set in Auto Mode you can also just turn them on by flipping your light switch that you attach to these - flip it off then flip it on within two seconds. They will stay on for 8 hours or until sunrise, whichever comes first. Do the same thing again if you want to shut the lights off before the 8 hours expires or the sun rises. Again it worked flawlessly for me. A couple of installation notes: 1) The instructions show how to wire it in to a single-bulb flood light. It also works for a 2-bulb fixture as long as you don't exceed the maximum wattage. 2) If you're not experienced and knowledgeable in electrical wiring then you should find someone who is. Local building codes may even require this to be done by a licensed electrician. I have experience and my brother-in-law is a licensed electrician so this was pretty easy for us. Conclusion: The motion detector is easy to operate after being wired in. It has three operating modes that include Dusk to Dawn functionality, Manual Mode, and the Auto Mode with motion detection.     • A Great DIY Solution to Adding a Motion Detector to Any Light Fixture.

I had a nice front porch light that did not have a motion sensor. I wanted to add this so that as someone approached the house the light would pop on. I added an exterior electrical box above my light fixture and bought a cover that this could screw into. I mounted it as high up as I could so that it would have a great field of view for the motion sensor. It works perfectly. As soon as any car or person gets anywhere the near the front of the house the light comes on. Very handy. Since this is a two pack I used the other motions sensor as a replacement for an old one at the back door. My light fixture there was still in good shape but over the years the motion sensor became damaged. I simply unscrewed the old sensor and screwed this one into place. Both sensors work well and are easy to adjust to just the right setting so it is only triggered by a person or car. The 3 modes are very handy. Auto mode turns on whenever motion is detected and once motion is no longer detected turns off based on the delay you set. Dusk to dawn mode is also very useful, coming on at dusk and staying on all night until sunrise. And when you need to override it is easy to do by just using your regular interior light switch. The TREEWELL 2 Pack 240-Degree Replacement Motion Detector, Adjustable Delay Time & Detection Sensitivity Up to 60 Feet Range, 3 Working Modes Pir Motion Sensor for Security Floodlight, White, works exactly as I'd hoped. The existing old floodlight that was stuck turned on all the time now sees my dog go out in the yard and illuminates the steps to the deck just until he finds his way back inside at night. I hated the idea of tossing another floorlight fixture because the ancient sensor stopped turning the lights on, or in this case off. Being able to remove the the broken sensor and leave the rest of the fixture was great. While I was standing on the ladder I appreciated that the new sensor weighed about a third of the original sensor. The wires were cut and partially stripped to match the lengths of the original wiring, and the included wire nuts were big enough to hold the large, older wires in the electical box. The unit fits where the original was on the fixture and the outer ring let me set the sensor arm without having to screw the whole thread length in after I'd connected the wires. This sensor has more control in terms of both on-time when activated, and range of detection. The wide angle means it triggers even if my dog jumps off the side of the porch to chase a squirrel instead of walking down the stairs where the sensor is pointed. He'll never catch the squirrel, but he sure enjoys the chase! ... show more

TREEWELL 2 Pack 240-Degree Replacement Motion Detector for security lights I installed one of the two detectors that came in the 2 pack. I put it on the rectangular halogen fixture at my back door I don’t want a dusk to dawn light there, though I can quickly set the detector up for that turning one knob. I have the light set to stay off during daylight. In darkness, it lights only when motion is detected within the range I’ve set. A cat running across the yard at night causes the light to come on. It appears to detect motion on either side or straight ahead. A problem I faced was that with the rectangular halogen lamp, the detector could only be attached cocked to one side, rather aimed more nearly straight ahead in front of the lamp. To try to correct that, I bought a ½ X 3 in. plastic nipple and a ½” PVC-1 coupling to position the detector out from behind the halogen lamp (see photos). If I had found and used a curved coupling, I could have positioned the detector more precisely, but it is adequate for my needs. I’m quite pleased with the detector. ... show more
