The media could not be loaded. This little tank is working well! I’ve got it set up with a few guppies from my guppy tank to be ready for a betta in a few weeks. I need to get the beneficial bacteria going first. I found it is much easier to assemble the aquarium filter, etc. with the top off. To make the filter water flow mellow enough for betta I put the supplied plug into the aeration outlet. The piece with a valve to control aeration must be kept tightly closed. An added benefit I found is this valve makes it easy to do routine water changes. I easily could drain water into a pitcher! There are two places the biological filtration happens in this tank: the black filter sponge on the water intake and the white gauze the water output drains into. It is really important to not use tap water to clean them - use a cup of aquarium water instead. You want to keep the beneficial bacteria alive and well! I put some gravel, a ceramic pagoda and a handful of living Java fern into the tank. These things help keeping the water currents from pushing the fish around. A very important item that you MUST add to this tank is a heater! Bettas are tropical fish. Their water is best at 78° to 82° F. Small heaters (10 to 20 watts) are inexpensive. Add an aquarium thermometer to keep an eye on the water temperature! I’m looking forward to having a betta again!
