Was drawn into this series after just the first episode. I have not yet gotten into Yellowstone, but after 1883 I will for sure. The characters are unique in so many ways. Think you have them figured out? Think again. The writers know how to keep you off balance. No real stereotypes here. You might should be warned here; this is not the old “Wagon Train” TV series, though it is a wagon train. Has some raw scenes of how life might have been in 1883. Liked it so much I bought it for my Santa present! Will watch again and loan the DVDs to my extended family members. Loved it! ... show more

Only productions that compare for me would be the original Lonesome Dove miniseries and the Clint Eastwood picture Unforgiven. Brutal, emotional, well acted and masterfully executed.

This is a great miniseries, whether or not you've watched (or liked) Yellowstone. Great acting, and story, with sub-plots that give it a real 3-dimensional feel. There was a similar miniseries back in the early 80's called "Lonesome Dove", and this really felt like an updated, better acted, version, with higher production values. We highly recommend it, whether you're a fan of westerns or not. It's just a great drama, period. ... show more

Warning////.ay not work in older model DVD players! Didnt work on the one in my office, nor on my mothers unit, but works great on my new player just fine! Dont watch if cuss words offend you, its pretty heavy on them. But I loved the movie!
