  • Sturdy wrist guards; challenging sizing.
Size: Large Color: Black
What is great about these wrist guards is that the metal wrist protector inserted in the sleeve appears extremely durable and well seated in the sleeve. It does not chafe and is comfortable in my daily use, up to 1 hour at a time. The velcro attaches firmly for the most part, but I have to be careful to avoid contact of the velcro with any type of knit clothing because it is very tenacious. More of a problem is the sizing. I have a 7.5 hand / glove size, which I know because I wear a size 7.5 surgical glove on a regular basis and they fit me exactly correctly. I also measured the circumference as directed by the size chart before purchasing. The wrist guard does fit about correctly around the palm of my hand. However, the wrist velcro straps are sized such that the guard makers appear to expect my wrist to have almost the same diameter as the palm of my hand. As a result, when I tighten the velcro strap to the correct tightness, only about 1 cm of the velcro pad overlaps. This probably happens because they have a fairly wide size range (L = 7.0 to 8.5, for example). The problem could easily be fixed if the origin point of the strap had receiving velcro on the back, but it simply flat webbing, leaving a large area of free velcro to catch on clothing, bags, etc, and gradually work its way loose. The free velcro is slowly shredding the webbing wristband. If I replace these at some point, I will probably try a size down. ... show more

  • Protect your money makers!
Size: Large Color: Black
As an older dude, falling sucks a whole lot more than it used to. I work with my hands, I play music with my hands, as well as all the other stuff that people do with their hands. As Mitch Hedberg said, “these things are useful!” Anyway, I am also not going to stop doing fun stuff, like roller skating and skateboarding, and when you are doing those things, you are inevitably going to fall, and chances are good you’re going to try and catch yourself with your hands. These make that a whole lot less painful. They are comfortable enough, you get used to wearing them quickly. They will get sweaty of course, so if you take them off and set them down for a minute they will be cold and wet when you put them back on. That’s seriously the only disadvantage to wearing them. The plastic stiffener that makes it do what it does is exposed at the palm, which is nice because it slides a little when you hit the ground, in addition to keeping you from putting your hand down on a piece of gravel or whatever. I have had several pairs of wrist guards over the years, from several different manufacturers, and these are the best ones. I wear a large or xl glove, and the large version of these fits me fine, with a lot of extra strap I could use if I had bigger wrists. For real though: buy these, wear these when you skate, whatever you skate. Protect your hands and wrists. Those things are useful. ... show more

  • Wearing wristguards while skating is smart.
Size: Medium Color: Black
I have already saved myself one broken or dislocated wrist. I’m a 210 lb 40 year old male and these fit well. I went down on a skateboard while trying to show my daughter how to ride recently and landed all weight on a wrist that I dislocated 9 months ago and was able to continue skating and pretending that it didn’t hurt. Instead of heading to the hospital. 😜 ... show more

  • Saved me from surgery!
Size: Large Color: Black
First time out on skates I wiped out, and boy am I glad I had these and other pads on. I broke my arm...however, after going to the ortho they said I was lucky to be wearing such good pads, because if I hadn't have been, my arm would have shattered and I would have had to undergo surgery and be out of work for 2 and half months. INVEST IN GOOD THICK SAFETY EQUIPMENT! With these suckers on, I was saved from a real bad injury. Thank goodness I bought these guys. I would buy them again in a heartbeat. The sizing I found accurate. Make sure you understand that when you first put these and other pads on they will be a bit tight from the manufacturer, but with wear and time the pads will conform to you. I recommend putting pads on to break them in a bit before going out so that, in a real situation, the pads will be appropriately tight and form fitting to your joints. Good luck out there guys, and stay safe! ... show more

  • Broken after mild use.
Barely used since I bought them in January and the plastic that is supposed to protect broke. I didn't even use these like a normal derby skater would because I have had other life stuff keeping me from playing and practicing very little. I actually loved these but the fact they broke so easily and soon makes me hate them especially given they only warranty them for 3 months. I have some triple eights that the velcro is destroyed on that I'm going to pull the plate out of but I wouldn't purchase triple eight either because the velcro self destructs. I wish I knew what to recommend but a good wrist guard is hard to find... ... show more

  • Sturdy and Safe
Size: X- Small Color: Black
Adult woman here with hands measuring 6.5" around the palm and 5.5" around the wrist, which put me at the junior size on the size chart. I was a bit skeptical after reading another review that someone had ordered the junior size for their 6 year old child and so I ordered the extra small as well to compare. While the pads fit width-wise, the junior size was a bit too short and pulled down on my thumbs. The splints felt like they were digging into my hands. (Also, the pair I received was missing the reinforced area above the thumb holes.) I ended up keeping the extra small which fit much better. ... show more

  • Works well for Snowboarding
Size: Medium Color: Black
I bought these for snowboarding use in icy or slushy conditions when the chance of me catching and edge or eating it were higher. Glad I did. I took a hard fall three times during the day and it felt like landing on concrete. On the 2nd fall I couldn't tuck my arms in fast enough and landed right on my wrists and then somersaulted (probably looked funny at least). The guards absorbed the entire blow and, while the wrists were sore for the day, I'm sure it would have been a lot worse. The guards more than paid for themselves. Sizing wise, my hands measure about 8.25" around and I bought a Medium. I little big but it works. For snowboarding, I wear a Dakine mitt and the guards fit in them fine, though occasionally the velcro will catch on the fabric inside the glove ... show more
