My walk through barn door has a spring on it so that it closes automatically, but sometimes I want it to be propped open. However the door hangs about four inches from the ground. This latch is perfect -- it looks rustic, but the rod drops right down into the ground and keeps the door from swinging closed. I'll probably get a pipe for it to drop down into, but it's close to the road and I figure it will get filled up with debris from plows, etc. so I'll try it this way to see if it works over time. So far, so good!

This drop rod does the job on a tight budget. Similar items at the big box are far more expensive and don't typically include the same options. I like the fact that this kit includes a bracket to keep the rod in the 'up' position. However, it does not include hardware to lock it in the 'down' position making it a security vulnerability, and it is only 18" tall, which means you will likely have to bend down to lock/unlock it. A taller version (24"-30") would be very helpful for those that...don't flex the way they used to.

I like that this feels like a solid wrought iron piece of history. Nothing is going to break this bad boy. Now, it could pull out the shallow screws, so if you want more strength buy longer screws. This gives our home an antiquated and castle like feel for a door bolt. I mean, you could use it on a fence, but why when you could make your front door a castle bolted safety feature? Easy installation, good performance factor, and appeared to be stable and quality piece.

I used this for a side gate that had something like this prior, but seemed homemade from the previous owner. It was painted a weird bluish color which I hated and was thinking about swapping it out for a while. This item is a lot longer which I like because I don't have to crouch down anymore to lock the gate. It fits perfectly in the existing hole and was pretty easy to install. The paint or powder coating quality is comparable to ones I saw at Home Depot and also cheaper. Keeps the gate a lot more stable now with the added length of the rod and extra mounting brackets.

It did not take me long to install this onto my gate. I wanted to do a different way to close the gate versus nailing a board to my newly stuccoed wall of my house to attach the typical type of latch. This was easy to do and worked well, the only thing that took me a while was drilling a hole into my concrete to give the latch to a place to attach to. I rarely used this gate so in this case it a low latch was not a problem for me. I did this just by sight, I attached to top piece first, made sure the second one was strait by checking it visibly only. Then I did the same thing to the bottom support. I did drill small holes first for the screws, but it probably was not necessary. There are no instructions but that was expected. Item came well packaged and was undamaged. Sorry but even though I list the photos a certain order, they tend to show up in a random order. I will keep this review up to date if any new issues arise as time passes.

This is a great Gate Ground Latch - it is built well, solid materials, not going to rust easily, and included hardware is decent. This will get you secured quickly if you need something to hold your gate in place.

Our gate has had some work done on it; and it seemed the right time to add a cane bolt to it. There are (4) parts total; and (2) of them can be positioned 180 degrees in different directions depending on the surface; or the look you'd like to achieve. There are no directions, or templates included; so you'll need to spend some time figuring out where all the pieces need to go to line up correctly before you start drilling. A pencil, and a 6 inch torpedo level will help you get the best results in the shortest time. I'm very pleased with this hardware set.
